Daniel Seagren (Danny) 81, of Little River SC, passed away on Monday, November 10th, 2025.He was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN until his entertainment career brought him to NYC.
There he remained, until the sun and golf beckoned him to the Grand Strand to enjoy his retirement years.
Son of the late Morley R. Seagren and Carol C. (Linner) Seagren, he is survived by longtime companion, Kate Vereau, his brother Dr. Stephen L. Seagren, his wife Jill R. Seagren, and their son, his nephew Sean G. Seagren.
In addition to being a dancer, writer and producer, Danny was both a puppeteer and puppet maker for Jim Henson.
Along with being Ernie’s right hand, this Muppet maker played Big Bird on several episodes of Sesame Street. He was the famed bird for all live shows, events and parades, including repeated appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show.
He went on to create and perform puppet characters for many other productions such as “Captain Kangaroo”, “Miss Peach” (for which he received a daytime Emmy), and “Who’s Afraid Of Opera” starring Joan Sutherland for PBS.
Other TV highlights include having portrayed TV’s first Spider-Man on the popular Children’s Television Workshop show “The Electric Company”. It starred Rita Moreno and Morgan Freeman.
Many remember “Hey you guys!” and his “thought bubbles” to encourage reading as it was shown in many classrooms nationwide.
In his later years, he enjoyed appearing at Comic Cons meeting the grown “kids” who adored him!
Danny will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those throughout the community he loved living in.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
