1995 D'Angelo wasn't doing shit Prince hadn't already been doing since '78. Prince was doing that "neo-soul" sound back in the late 80's. Listen to "Come", the Love Symbol album, "Lovesexy" "Sign o the Times" and "Parade", you'll hear that same sound D'Angelo and them was on.

"D'Angelo got the shit put on MTV" would've been a better point.

Prince wasn't original either in that sense, cos all he did was jack pfunk,james,Aretha & Joni Mitchell , SO whats ur point? People will reorganize their influences and make it theirs , EVERY DAMN ARTIST DOES THAT !!?

I never said Prince was the original, or that he created it or anything like that. My point was that you made it sound like D'Angelo created Neo-Soul (or whatever you meant when you said he built the house) when R&B/Soul had been sounding like that years before D'Angelo even made a demo. Prince was an example, just like Mint Condition and Tony Toni Tone would be examples.

I'm not talking about influences. I'm talking about people who were making that kind of music the same time as and a little bit before D'Angelo. I'm talking '89 to '95. The only thing D'Angelo brought to the table, that wasn't already brought from the other good "neo-soul" acts, was that he got a couple videos into MTV's rotation. Back in the early 90s, the only R&B/Soul acts getting played on MTV were Prince and maybe Tony Toni Tone, and maybe a couple more artists who had a high charting single at the time. Then D'Angelo dropped, then we started seeing Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill videos on MTV when they were breaking through.

I'm not saying he wasn't a good artist, D'Angelo is a great artist. I'm just saying, let's not act like D'Angelo re-invented the wheel when he came out.

The sound and approach he took when he came out was like nothing else out there, not saying there wasn't a minimalist funky soul sound but the sound he created influenced a new take on classic soul, u can't deny that, that's why everyone rallied around that sound when he dropped u can't deny!

Exaclty,Pino does his thing. He's rocked with D'Angelo since the Voodoo tour & has also rocked with John Mayer & The Who.

not to lie, i waint never been a big fan of pino either but all these cats swear by him so he must be bringin somethng to the table, funny enuff his association with john mayer stems from his work with D'angelo, cos mayers last 2 albums was an attempt to cop some of that voodoo feel in his workm he has mentioned that
