Long before he became the most powerful man in mixed martial arts, UFC president Dana White was a boxing fan. On Tuesday during the "UFC Tonight" show on Fuel TV, White laid into superstar boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

White called Mayweather racist for Mayweather's comments on Twitter about New York Knicks' guard Jeremy Lin. He also blasted Mayweather for failing to sign to fight Manny Pacquiao and said a 50/50 purse split, as Pacquiao has demanded, is the most logical move.

Don't worry about what all these other guys are doing and shooting your big mouth off on Twitter. What you should worry about is getting in there and making the fight that all the boxing fans want to see. Get in there and fight Manny Pacquiao. You don't deserve more of the purse. If ever there were a fight in history that should be split 50/50, it's the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. Shut up! Both of you split the money up and put on the fight that everybody, including me, wants to see.

Mayweather commented about Lin on his Twitter account on Feb. 13. He didn't really rip Lin, as numerous sites have alleged, but simply said that Lin is getting a lot of hype because of his race and that African American players don't receive a comparable amount of hype.

Mayweather comments on Lin's popularity

As the controversy was beginning to die down, White stirred it up again by ripping Mayweather on a segment called, "Presidential Address." Fuel put White's face in what appeared to be the presidential seal for the commentary.

White also ripped Mayweather for 2010 comments that the WBC welterweight champion made about Pacquiao. His most incendiary words, though, were when he flat called Mayweather a racist.

First of all, what he said I think was racist. He's made a couple of racist comments and, yes, Floyd, you're racist with the stuff that you've said. First of all, Jeremy Lin gets all of this credit because he's an Asian player in the NBA that African Americans never get? Yeah. He's getting all this praise because he's an Asian guy playing in the NBA. You say that African Americans don't get it? Really, Kobe Bryant doesn't get any praise? Michael Jordan never got any praise? The list goes on and on of the guys who completely get praised for being great NBA basketball players. Not only can he compete and make it in the NBA, the guy is tearing it up and is breaking records, you knucklehead. OK?

White, who managed boxers in the 1990s, ended his tirade by telling Mayweather to "shut up and make the fight."

Yes, I run the UFC and all this stuff. I'm a boxing fan and I want to see this fight, too. I know that I speak for millions and millions of other people. Shut up and make the fight, Floyd.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's manager, didn't hold back when responding to White's comments.

"He needs to shut the [expletive] up and mind his own business, stay in his own lane and keep on taking advantage of the UFC fighters, while underpaying them," Ellerbe told Yahoo! Sports after learning of White's rant. "If he keeps on running his mouth, we may decide to give a free seminar to all of the UFC fighters on how the pay-per-view revenue should be distributed. This is typical Dana, who is always prone to ignorant outbursts. He should be the last person to try to judge someone else."

After learning of Ellerbe's response, White sent a text to Yahoo! Sports directed to Ellerbe.

"Just for the record, shut the [expletive] up [because] I wasn't talking to you," White said by text. "I was talking to Floyd. We're doing something amazing. We're building a sport while you guys are destroying one. "

So, do you think White has a point or is it, as Ellerbe said, just an ignorant outburst by someone sticking his nose where it doesn't belong?

Look, Floyd's statement was stupid but not racist, at least as far as Lin is concerned but I don't see White having a dog in this fight so he should have left it alone.
Ellerbe? Damn. That shot about showing fighters how ppv revenue should be distributed was a killer that I noticed White had shit to say about.

I always find it funny when white people come out they mouth with the quickness to say a black person is saying something racist, but they are ghost when other white people say something racist. I will agree with the article about Floyd's ustream shit being racist, but that Lin shit was more about pointing out the racism of the media.

hypocrisy Chael Sonnen said some really ignorant statements why Dana doesn't call him out?...what Mayweather said was not even racist....

I agree with the comments Dana is making about just boxing and shutting up. But the whole "racist" thing - he can miss me with that bullshit.

What do you think will get the most coverage: him taking on Sonnen or Mayweather? Floyd isn't the only giant ego in this battle.

Chael gets away with it because he's created a persona for himself ala WWE. which is just a smart way to market himself. Can't really blame the guy for that.

Floyd is extremely cocky (as is Sonnen and a whole slew of other athletes) but i think his best bet is to simply make the fight. He just wants more money (who wouldn't?) because after this he realizes there is nothing else left for him. Even if he or Pac-man win there will be another rematch of course but it will garner less hype and therefore less money.

White is a smart business man but he tries to come off as this purist or something. at the end of the day its still all about the benjamins for him. Leave boxing alone I say. MMA is his thing. I do agree with him about boxing being destroyed and him building up MMA though.

That applies to Floyd as well and first.

Agreed but I don't think Floyd destroying boxing. If he and Pacquiao never fight, boxing will be fine. It would be nice if they do but I'm still going to enjoy boxing and people are still going to buy ppvs. The real danger is boxing not building up more stars to take their place and relying on two guys well over 30 to get attention.

Chael has said some real borderline racist shit...

he said the champion should never have his hat backwards referring to Anderson...dude said if Silva ever walked in his neighborhood with a backwards hat he would be chased out the neighborhood...that was some racist ass shit WWE promo or not...

dude is criminal & cheater yet he still fighting for the belt...I don't get it :smh:...

Dana only went after Mayweather because Mayweather is big news he doesn't give a shit about any racist remarks...

I think Floyd has repeatedly made comments that rise to the level of being racist based on the current standards in the United States. Floyd may be a racist or he might be on some militant black victimization trip. At first, I thought it was just some act with the Pacquiao sushi roll thing but now he's crossing over into different sports with the comments. Whatever. I think it all falls in line with the "Money" Mayweather persona that he has created so it's not surprising. As a black person, I just find it a little embarrassing when he puts ignorant stuff out there like that on a worldwide level. It's embarrassing and unnecessarily divisive and just not classy. Whether Dana White is right or not, Mayweather's the one that puts himself out there for himself to be criticized like this and he also puts black people out there too to an extent, especially the American blacks or so called African Americans.

how he puts black ppl out there?

he does not rep all black men sure doesn't represent me with his antics....what he said was not racist...but his history of ignorant remarks about Asians I'm not surprised the reaction it created...

but Dana is in no place to talk about Mayweather with his shady ass dealings in his own sport...

I can't add anything to this.

The thought of Floyd representing anyone but himself:smh:

Well, of course you are going to say he doesn't represent you but he still kind of does to some people. Black stars have a huge influence on how the general public perceives black people in general. Is this not true? Whether it's Dana's place or not doesn't matter because the one that is habilitating all of this is Mayweather.

It's all perception. Just like how Bruce Lee is part of the main reason why people thought all Asians knew some type of karate or kung fu. Back in the 80's I participated in martial arts tournament and I remember my coach used to give us special talks about not getting psyched out when fighting Asians. He said to look at everybody the same. He said this for a reason. It's about perception and like it or not the more popular Mayweather gets, the more he represents black people in general in the eyes of many many people around the world.

Then those people for whom that is true have a problem since there are so many other examples out there. I'm not going to wear their limitations.

well thats sad & foolish if anyone looks at celebs &/or athletes as a proper representation for a ppl....

why when its whites its always the individual but one black man represents ALL?

Why? Because for reasons we already know, blacks and whites are not on equal terms in the United States. For example, imagine if Tim Tebow would have made statements on video telling some black player to go fry some chicken or go eat a watermelon or something. Do you think the backlash he would receive would be less than what Mayweather received for his comments on 2 separate occasions about Asians. Shit, Tebow might have lost endorsements and millions of dollars over something like that.

The point is, for whatever reasons, blacks stars are in a different position and can get away with certain things that others can't but can get hammered more for certain things as well. On an international scale, I don't think black americans have an idea how much of an influence they have on how black people in other parts of the world are treated. They have no idea. If you are a black person living in Guatemala somewhere and the only image of a black star that the general people have is someone acting a fool or someone chopping up their face to look white (Michael Jackson), people that are not feel black feel emboldened and even superior. The new black generation should be thankful for movies like I Am Legend where the protagonist is a black man that is a scientist that gets to save the world. This is an image for black people internationally that black americans probably have no idea how much it helps.

man I watch movies & sports but I don't look at any celeb or athlete as a representation of any race...if I want a representation I will interact with real ppl of another race...eat different foods etc...

if you need the TV to tell you who black ppl or any other race of ppl are you are a fool...athletes & celebs answer to the highest dollar you don't know who these ppl really are once the cameras are off...

I agree with you and commend you. More people should be like you. Unfortunately, most people aren't. There are other parts of the world where blacks are the minority. The U.S blacks are the ones mostly in the spotlight because of United States' place on the world stage. If I am a black Mexican living in Mexico where people are already acting funny to me. It doesn't help if I'm in the movie theater watching a Brian Hooks film like 3 Strikes surrounded by my majority non black Mexican countrymen. The lights turn on after everyone has witnessed the bufoonery, the farting, the whole ghettoness and the first thing these people remember when they see your black face is the same bufoonery.

:hmm:

Floyd can "get away with it" because he doesn't work for anyone. If Michael Vick said it, there would be a shitstorm and apologies from Vick and distancing from Vick and the NFL.

As for the greater racial issue, Black people universally need to throw off the shackles of other ethnicities ideas of us. Why trade one form of slavery for another?

No problem with this, but white people are quick to pull this "us vs them" shit on minorities and the only defense we have is solidarity, because most white people no matter how liberal they claim to be are easier with ignoring racism than confronting it when the culprit is white. We are expected to just accept the double standard they have about race.

Floyd was wrong to the ustream shit, but I swear white business men/women and politicians get away with the same shit every fucking day and white motherfuckers ignore it, make excuses and defend it... then say shit like NAACP is worse than the KKK. They play that "us" shit as a tool. We need to smarten the fuck up and stop letting these motherfuckers con us with bullshit like they don't play that fucking game.
