BUT
the whole hair thing was a fail
its is NOT the relaxer that causes ppl's hair to stop growing, its the lack of maintenance
and the same thing can happen to natural hair...it can fall out also if it is not kept up
now, yes some black women try to aspire to white beauty standards but to say that in a class like its an semi-empirical fact....very risky
i mean i could easily make a statement of black men trying to aspire to white man's standards of wealth and individualism instead of our communal roots BUT that would be foolish cuz that doesn't apply to everyone

I have had Locs for 18+ years. I cut them two weeks ago. I initially grew them as an act of rebellion against my parents when I moved out of the house right out of high school. Done to show them vindictive acts of independence from them I learned how it sometimes hindered me.
Out of stubbornness I refused to cut them in order to seize opportunities in life that could have possibly lead to me being more successful than I am today. I have no regrets but unfortunately as a tradesman it has recently become more dangerous around machinery.
But for women who chose to dred, it seems to me that they are doing it as a Neo-Soul validation fashion statement and not because of heritage. Nothing wrong with that but it is one thing that the Black woman can still have to herself.
Tanning, Braids, But and Breast implants, Collagen etc.. are some of the things that you see white women in America seeking to make themselves Black. Not to offfend sistas who "don't wish to be white", but It seems that the desire to be of another race has balanced it self out. I guess thats one of the reasons why you see so many brothers grinnin wit a trophy white girl. Oops I'm confusing things cause at least in my eyes the white girl you might catch me grinnin wit is gonna have some physical signs of natural black ancestry. lol

I think your answer is a matter of opinion and not factual to all black women. But I like the way you spoke up and stuck to your guns no matter what back lash you recieved.

African-Americans are the most hypocritical people on the face of this earth. Having black skin no more makes you of african decent than having white skin makes you a cracker. If so ... then we're all from Africa and this topic is a moot point.
Now, if you don't want to be hypocritical and claim ur supposed lineage because most of us absolutely do not know where the hell we came from, then we also have to give credence to the fact that more than the majority of us are also of hebrew decent as well as others; and that blood link is closer than ur African link (as far as time).

We continuously protest the actions of having to follow the dictatorship of our enslave rs and justly so, but then we turn around and try to dictate what another brother/sister should do, or how they should wear their hair, or clothes ANNNNNDD, have the nerve to tell THEM how it effects THEIR self esteem and U don't even know that other person.
The idiocy of black logic sometimes kills me. I'm a part time actor and do so at a time where there aren't that many black shows on tv. Does that mean I want to be white because those are the images I see on tv? Or am I allowed to have my own freakin preferences, likes, and drives. Some women prefer permed hair ... it's that simple.
We fight the wrong battles, always say the wrong things. OBAMA'S campaign slogan at this point should be: EVERY VOTE NOT CAST IS EQUIVALENT TO A COUNTED VOTE FOR THE OPPONENT. Now if that don't spark a flame under ur ass u deserve everything that happens to you and perhaps U or Ur children need to be shipped out to war tmw, because U just don't get it.
Lastly, LEAVE THE N-WORD ISSUE ALONE. White folk can no more feel our pain than any of U can feel the pain of a starving RUSSIAN child who died two years ago on a cold mountain top. I use her for an example to show that black women hair can be long(down to her back and yes she's black not mix) if they don't relax their hair and keep it natural
