I want this to be a reminder for you all to take care of your bodies. Walk for fifteen minutes, pick up a piece of fruit. Start some exercise or just slowly cut out processed foods.

Your body and your family will thank you if you do.

Dang. You alright with me 4 that. Will do!:bike:

I been doin good for like 3 weeks on my diet and exercise. Pickuped a big unhealthy bag of doritos and clicked on this thread.....throwing the doritos in the trash

Thanks...any and all motivation is appreciated. Went from 6 miles a day to nothing after an injury.

Was it a broken bone? I'm just finding out there is this dystrophy associated with healed broken bones. It might not be right after it's healed, (though I think age might play a factor), but get checked out first.

And then, fifteen minute nature walks.

That's the spirit!

*high fives
It's been...two weeks I think since I've been on mine. Four pounds lost and my pants are literally falling off of me. Bout to put myself on a Wii regimen after I deal with all this craziness.

Keep it up people. It's not that hard once you get to it. Oooo, could we do a marathon? On second thought...it's about time for some marathons to take place here in Atlanta...

:( Had a coworker die this week.

:(
My condolences. Sometimes it takes something tragic for us to wake up.

Thank you, Ive been F'ing up lately.

:D
Get on it!

Folks remember there are some great deals out there. Some schools are offering free fitness classes, or offering them at a discounted rate on site, (I know of an elementary school here in Atlanta that does yoga), so ask around. If you haven't already go find Groupon cause they give discounts on stuff too like rock climbing and gym memberships.

But you don't have to spend all that money for a little exercise...take a walk around the block! ;)

some positive reinforcement goes a long way...so show us those melons, ms. pecan, if you really want to get us going!

Thanks in advance,

Good thread Mel but what prompted this thread? BTW your 100% correct!

Pops had a heart attack this weekend. I feel responsible because after his stroke a few years back I let him slack on his diet.

Never again.

Hey, who out there still remembers how to do those waybacks? Bet you ten can get your blood flowing!

Man...I try my hardest, I really do but when the results aren't there, the will power goes with it. i COMPLETED the Insanity program in January and actually gained weight. No, I didn't follow the diet plan completely, so I wasn't looking for drastic changes. But I was looking for something different, and got nothing. Now I'm not fat at all(5'7-185), arms, back, legs are good but my stomach is a different story. Also did 30 days of P90X last year and you guessed it, no results, that time I did cut out all fried/fast foods, no alcohol, no red meat and I know 30 days isn't a lot of time but even minimal results were nowhere to be found. People say they're refreshed after eating something healthy as opposed to unhealthy, call me an alien I guess because I feel 10x better after chomping 2 double cheeseburgers than when I stir up anything healthy. The only time I saw changes in my stomach was when my stupid self got depressed over an ex and stopped eating for a few weeks, I guess it's just one of these :smh: for me and my health and getting a ripped stomach.....

Good advise, simple and to the point.

Bro... don't over complicate this. I know it's frustrating when you feel like you're getting no results AND you're avoiding foods you love but you have to approach your fitness from a long term perspective.

If you want to get rid of that gut it comes down to eating less calories then you need. Period. All the fancy charts and graphs, esoteric science and fad diets in the world will never beat the simplicity of this statement. You need to eat less. You mentioned your diet wasn't 100% on point. That has to change.

Track your calories

Lift weights 3 days a week minimum. Do cardio at least 3 days a week as well (start off with 30min and work up to 60 add more days as you plateau)... eat 6 small meals a day built around protein, concentrate on getting most of your carbs from vegetables and treat yourself to something starchier (rice, potatoes, pasta etc) only in your post-weightlifting meal.

Aim to lose about 1-2lbs of fat a week. You don't want to lose muscle.

Drink tons of water get at least 7 hours of sleep. Take a long term approach and make adjustments based on your progress/situation but I guarantee you can get a flat stomach + an overall great body and health with some persistence. Massive change won't come in 30 days.... it took you years to get here it will take some time to transform yourself.

Good luck....

Cool thread Melon ;)

:)
This is what I am doing, about 1200 a day. I think my body is responding to it a little differently but I'm not discouraged. It's gonna take me till Christmas to hit my target weight, (loosing about 2lbs a week), but once we get situated and I start adding this normal workout I expect things to change.

I try to take my fifteen or even five minute walks at work and it does feel good feeling my pants fall off

:smh: Mellllllllllllllllllllll u ok?Is he getting any better?

I hit u on fb

He has blockage, which I'm starting to think part of it broke off and that is what caused his stroke a while back. He's ok, suppose to be coming home tomorrow. Just going through the motions...getting ideas for this diet and exercise routine for him.

I guess it's just one of these :smh: for me and my health and getting a ripped stomach.....

I feel your pain, I really do. I have image issues myself.

But when it comes to working out you have to understand how muscle and fat work. You know muscle weighs more than fat so when you are actually working out, it's not uncommon to gain weight before seeing the body fat shed off. Under that fat you can have muscle build up, you just need to find a new way to work that fat off. Keep working out but don't let your routine get stale, mix it up to work the muscles that just one type of exercise moves. If you stay constant and give it time you will get what you are looking for.

Good luck!

Got a question.
What do you do to motivate a person that you need to motivate someone else? I'm afraid moms can't get with this program to continue to motivate Daddy. I can't be there to eat with him at all times like she does / can.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info. I'm great with water and sleep, I don't think I get enough protein, it seems almost impossible to get enough while cutting back on how much I eat at the same time. As far as cardio goes, Insanity didn't give me visual results but I'm in great shape BUT I can't run for long because I broke my foot a few years back and the pain lingers after a while. Is bike riding as effective as running? If so, I think that'll be my breakthrough.

It seems to be more common the older you get so make sure it doesn't turn into this.

That's tough... and it's admirable what you're doing for your pops but motivation has to come from the inside. He has to want it. All you can do is gently nudge him in the right direction (like you're already doing) and maybe use a little old fashioned guilt like "I want you around to see your grandkids" or something like that.

No prob man. The trick is to build all your meals around protein. So something like grilled chicken breast+mixed vegetables would be one of your meals, salmon and asparagus would be another etc. When you're keeping your carbs restrictive it frees up a lot of calories to use towards protein.

Cardio-wise doing stationery bike is fine.

I got an X-ray last year, doc said it was fully healed and the only thing to possibly make it somewhat better was therapy, and Dr. Scholl's inserts, I haven't really tried either yet.

That might help. That extra calcium around that healed bone might be throwing you off of balance. Give it a try!

Thanks. I know Daddy wants it. And I know Momma want it for Daddy. But Momma can't DO it for Daddy. I know how he thinks and seeing her gung ho would be like the icing on the cake for him. In his mind after a while it would be easier to eat what she's eating instead of two meals...:(

What do ya know, I had salmon with a miso sauce last night. You just quoted two of my favorite dinners.

It's a beautiful day coming people! Just saying...

Black men over 35 go get your heart checked out a lot of black men 35 and up are dieing from heart attack and other complications due to bad blood flow to the heart.you could have a heart problem and not even know it until its to late.

I was 40 years old and thought everything was fine as far as my health was concerned.one day I had to give a speech in front of my co workers, and I felt a pain in the middle of my chest.I keep coughing and having chest pains.I thought I was having a acid reflex moment so to make a long story short.

three days later I went to the doctor to see if I could get something for acid reflex he prescribe me some medication and I was on my way, but I still was having chest pains so I went back to the doctor with the same problem and he says lets check your heart because acid reflex and heart disease symptoms are almost alike.

well they checked my heart and I had over 92% blockage on the left side of my heart he told me I had what its called the widow maker. my first heart attack would have been my last.even if I was standing in front of the hospital.

well I had to have quadruple bypass at 40 years and still trying to stay healthy at 45.

so go get your heart checked don't wait until its to late.
