Cultural practices or ignorance? Breast Ironing

One, your officially beginning to scare me Femme.

Two, from the article:

The UN says that 3.8 million West and Central African girls are at risk of a painful form of body mutilation know as 'breast ironing'.

I'm sure this happens. I would say it is ignorance, but then again, I don't live in that country, and that is my point.

Do we believe the UN? [sarcasm]They do constantly highlight the successes of African countries, cities, and cultures, outside of their influences. [/sarcasm]

Really, do we believe them, or is this another, " Look at the savages of Africa. " News stories, Western news is so fond of.

:hmm:

I"m with Shane on this one Femme. I mean there are some "bush" practices in Africa, but it is more of a patch of people than the whole of Africa. :smh:

This shit is wrong no doubt, but it's tradition. The way to break bad tradition is good education.

Agreed

Thats fucking sad man! It's when people don't know any better and no matter how many times you tell them that they are hurting their child and it doesn't have to be the only option, they are set in their ways! I feel sorry for every woman who has to be forced to be deformed for the rest of their lives because of poor education and choices of the parents. I understand the parents not wanting their child to become pregnant just like any parent all over the world but there is a better way man.

I'm going with ignorance. Most who are practicing it do not know any better, are going with tradition and refuse to change, or just lack the sex ed that is necessary for both adults and children.
