Crowning of first non-black Miss HU divides campus

Aloha Mr. Obama!

My name is Nikole Churchill, a senior nursing major at Hampton University. This past Friday October 9, 2009, I was honored to be crowned Miss Hampton University 2009-2010. It truly was the best night of my life! With that being said, I am sad to say…… that my crowning was not widely accepted and many negative comments regarding my win have been shared throughout my campus.

It would be much easier to say that possibly some were not accepting of the news because I wasn’t the most qualified contestant; however, the true reason for the disapproval was because of the color of my skin. I am not African-American. Despite the unfortunate beliefs that some are saying I should not have won, I am desperately trying to focus on those who believe in me and support me and my goal to represent this beautiful, multicultural campus the very best way that I can. I would love your help!

I am hoping that perhaps you would be able to make an appearance to my campus, Hampton University, so that my fellow Hamptonians can stop focusing so much on the color of my skin and doubting my abilities to represent, but rather be proud of the changes our nation is making towards accepting diversity. People are even nicknaming me, “lil Obama” because of various reasons. This is truly an honor as well!

I am also from Hawaii (Wahiawa) and I am hoping that you can assist me in opening some closed minds and help share some aloha spirit throughout my campus. I feel as though you could relate to my situation, which is why I immediately wanted to contact you. I was interviewed last night at the HU vs. HU football game by news channel 13 and I mentioned how individuals such as you and myself are making changes in hopes people can stop placing so much focus on our skin color by letting that define what we can, cannot, should, and/or should not do. Dr. Harvey welcomed me last night to the family with open arms and I was beyond honored when he told me that he is behind me 100%. I am proud to represent Hampton University and I am so proud having you to represent our home, our country. Your support with my crowning as Miss Hampton University 2009-2010 would be graciously appreciated. Please reply, I will be looking forward to it!

students didnt vote and she probably transferred to win this pageant since it feeds into the miss america pageant. she trying to kill 2 birds with one stone.

and when i emailed the story to my homegirl, she replied "yea i heard about that on the news" so like i said on a earlier page, she's gonna get some national press out of this. expect the cnn interview real soon...

cuz it doesnt really matter. they all had motives to use the shit to hopefully lead to other opportunities. thats the whole point of pageants.

the more people hate on the girl, the more coverage she'll get. im sure she loves it all... well except for days she has to go to the main campus.

The students should've been allowed to vote and I'm gathering they didn't? Both ways, it doesn't fucking matter! Beauty pageants are bullshit and they should all be eradicated! Who gives a fuck about that shit?!

When eactly was she at the campus? for the Howard game and after the pageant :rolleyes: If the other students didn't like you, when exactly would you have to deal with them? Plus you would think that everyone was disrespectful and throwing eggs at her or some shit. Some people are never happy with who won. The girl in the blacks friends would have been like fuck that bitch if the chick in the pink won.

So that letter was bullshit :rolleyes:

And how do you even wrote a letter to the President and then release it to the local paper? Like Obama has nothing better to do other than worry about some trivial bullshit that has a $1,500 scholarship and feeds in to the Miss Virginia pageant :hmm:

She later wrote another letter apologizing :hmm:

She made the school and students look like fuckin fools. They even put that shit on WSHH. :smh:

Dr Harvey is probably pissed like shit over this shit right now.

And for all the people thinking she's not white, she sure did act like a white person, because them muthafuckas cry reverse racism more than we do.

The thing is the Ms. HU pageant hasn't necessarily been taken seriously for a while...we always tend to have diversity when it comes to our Ms. Hampton's (some greek, some non-greek, differen organizations, majors, looks, etc.), so I'm not mad that she would try and participate...

But, if the problems with her attending the satellite school were a big issue, it should have been brought up BEFORE the pageant when she first submitted her information to be apart of it.

Her letter was a cheap play, and it didn't sound very well thought out...smh @ a professional letter that starts out, "Aloha, Mr. Obama," then leaps into such accusations of "reverse racism." GTFOH! :smh:
