Mr. Dyson has been arund for quite a bit of time. I remember him from C-SPAN, PBS programs, and other forums talking with other Black intellectuals about the various issues in OUR community long before Bill Cosby decided to open his mouth.

The particular roles he played is somewhat irrelevent. The issue with me is the genre he actively participated in.....Blaxploitation, which overall, gave a very negative protrayal of black folks regardless of the benign or few positive roles that were available. Hell even Ice T played a cop once. ....Bill cosby jumped in with both feet to make his money off it even though the entire genre was being criticized at the time from blacks of all persuasions.

Fast forward 20-30 yrs and the hip-hop generation and here comes Mr. I made my money doing Blaxploitation roundly criticizing young brothers for doing the exact same thing he did.

All I hear from the Jello King is negativity and generalization. Black people do not constantly need to be told what they are doing wrong, they already know. If Cosby feels so intensely about us doing better, how about him putting his considerable money where his fat mouth is. He gave 20 million to Spelman College just to get a building named after his wife. But I don't see any institutions of higher learning or training with his name on them. I Completely understand where your coming from but the one's making it are not the ones we need to focus on. The good ones need our support but it's without a doubt that the one's failing absolutely need much more support. Our community when looked at in it's entirety we have a disproportionate amount of our youths making the wrong decisions when compared to the majority. Every one of those doctors lawyers and politicians that our community produces feels a burden and understands that personal success is not enough if a majority of the members of our community is failing. I think this is what cosby and others like Danny Glover understand even though they are successful it still doesn't relieve the burden that a majority of the members of our community are facing in the way of injustice and vulnerability....Just look at Katrina!

The issue is what he said & whether or not it can be critiqued & if the critique was accurate. Cosby was right about some things but not all. Dyson offered a critiqued which is dead on. Here's my story.

My ex was graduating from Hampton Univ, and Cosby was the guest speaker 4 years ago. Cosby gave the same now famous rant complaining about what heads standing on the street corner are doing, talking about this and that and how its plain wrong.

I along with many of the other folks watching this wondered why he's bothering to tell these kids who didn't do any of those things. Exactly what was he imparting to their futures?

I'm tired of these baseless rants from people who think their money and donations make them impervious to criticism. He's a fukkin comedian for christ sake. He is not a socieologist who speaks in depth on our deep rooted problems. He's a fukkin comedian who goes as far as pointing his finger at the obvious many of us are all aware of. I don't care to hear about Cosby growing up poor. His poor back then isn't MY poor.

And it's you niqqas in the "He's right" congregation that get swept up by these do nothing sermons where you come in and leave with no plan.


"At least we're talking about it."......that's bullshyt. I'm tired of hearing us talk about it. Cosby isn't doing anything new bringing these things up. I'm tired of the finger pointing. "Look there they are!!!" How many times are we going to pat someone on the back for pointing to the obvious?

In the past I have supported Cosby. For better or worse his rants are from the heart and he means well. As for giving Dyson the finger Cosby is wrong. However both Cosby and Dyson need to sit down discuss and workout their differences. Instead Dyson elects to discuss the matter in a staged forum. Dyson's decision was no better than what Cosby did.

Dyson being a radio personality should've known better. A far more dignified response to Motown Maurice would have been to refuse comment and to again seek an opportunity to sit with Cosby and work out their differences. But again the interview was staged.

These types of incidents accomplish only one thing, they further keep our people divided. However I can't defend Cosby on something like this and I've alread spoken on Dyson's decision.

Martin Luther King preached non-violence while Malcolm X said "By and means necessary." Two diamectrically different approaches yet both men had the same goals. So, which man was right? Which man was wrong?

As 9 x 3 stated he wants to "hear you Cosby defenders." A statement which further pushes us towards division. Well I'm here. Cosby was wrong. Wrong is wrong! But again I say Dyson's actions were at least as wrong, simply because Cosby had no chance to explain his actions. Yet Dyson has an audience to which he can influence.

The major differences I see tend to be the older generation vs the younger generation. Every generation had to fight its battles the way it seemed best. Which generation is right? It doesn't matter. What does matter is we stop looking for who's right and who's wrong. We're like crabs in a basket.

What's sad is I like both these guys and it hurts to see successful black people at odds with each other. There is nothing wrong with two men disagreeing with each other. But there is something seriously wrong when they can't discuss their differences. It's Cosby's turn to reconcile the problem.
