Okay. After the fuckery on the main board and my last confession in the Confessions thread, I wasn't going to post anymore.

But I'm almost finished with the second season of Dexter and what I thought is now confirmed:


I have more in common with a fucking fictionalized serial killer than I do with anyone I know.


Now I know there are some psychologists here...thoughts? Becasue right now I am not sure whether to :puke:, :angry:, or :cool:.
 
Melon I think we all at some point have somethings in common with Dexter. I mean his character is a myriad of things. So having anything in common should NOT come as a surprise.
What part of his character are you seemingly more in tuned with?

I LOVE Dexter by the way. One of the best written shows on television. Absolutely addicting.:yes: I watched the first season over a 24 hour period. I had to see what was going to happen next. :cool:

I think you pointed out the most fascinating thing in your own post: Dexter is fictionalized, also glamorized. What makes this show so entertaining is that we can see how complex a character, ANY character, is...regardless if he is a serial killer, detective, etc.

As far as I know, the shows' writers have not actually studied serial killers manifestos, personality traits, etc. to build the character of "Dexter." It is a group of highly trained, professional writers who just understand how to write good tv.

That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about your personality traits. When a person, in his/her personal life, is feeling a severe emotion, often times one will think the worst about himself/herself. For example, you'll watch one of those silly tv ads for depression and think, "hey, I've got that." Truthfully, if you've got enough get-up-and-go to log onto BGOL time in and time out, you're a fully functioning human being...who does not want to go out and kill anyone.

yup, with TV they will try to incorporate a lil bit of common human characteristics and put it into this ultra fictional character so you can be in tune w/ that human aspect which will lead u to liking the rest of the character.

with drug, cosmetic companies and the like, play on that soooooooooo well. they will take somethin that is common and make it appear to be a problem/disease, unattractive or severely abnormal, pulling at our heart strings and BAM...they got us.

when i took abnormal psychology and my psychopathology courses i could have SWORN i had DAMN NEAR EVERYTHING in the book :lol:. Especially when I had a bad day. my professors warned us b4 and all throughout class that we are gonna identify with a lot of the symptoms because they are normal BUT when they start to interfere with your daily functioning in a severe way and/or over a long period of time, even reoccurring ...THEN, there might be something.

I know he is fictionalized and is suppose to be seemingly normal, (except for his propensity for killing), but the things he is going through looks like a damn mirror right now. The feelings he experiences, the types of people he meet, his take on the situations- I'm watching and I just feel that it might be TOO well written for a television show.

Maybe Showtime is the shit. :dunno:


Yeah, I'm vulnerable right now. But for the first time in almost a year I see clearly. I don't think I would have recognized God speaking to me last October...but I do now. Or is acceptance/recognition the first step to insanity?

Yeah, Ju... one of my old professors warned us about that in undergrad when taking abnormal psych... people tend to only look at the negative in themselves, instead of realizing how well-functioning they are...

Melon,not to defend him but you did put this information out on a "public message board" so you set yourself up to receive the criticism that you have thus far especially on this type of board.

Let them have their opinions whether right or wrong and keep it moving. Not everyone is going to see things your way so what is the point of going back and forth with them.If it gets to the point where you can't stand it put him and whomever else on ignore.

I knew what I was getting myself into when I posted what I posted on the main board. Regardless of the misconceptions that I had about my situation when I wrote that first post I felt as though I had to defend myself on what I thought was wrong judgments about myself. The only reason I stopped was at the advise of my newly found ex.

I understand that this is a public forum, and a porn one that that, (I'm not complaining :rolleyes:). But I did not respond to dude and had not talked to him since our last exchange in the cheating thread on the main board. Do I believe he checked my activity and followed me here? Yes. Does he have a right to state his opinion? Yes. But he is delusional to think that others can take certain rules and issues seriously when he doesn't recognize that he is guilty of the same thing.


Pardon my language, but how the fuck can deshithan expect me to get my life together because he believes I should die, but yet he is too blind to see he is obsessed because- well we're having this conversation, right? No one here truly knows me as a person so I can't get offended by remarks judging my character or my life unless I lay everything on the line. But now I have to wonder if dude is an e-thug or fucking e-stalker.
