Confirmed: "Phoenix" Trans Am conversion kit coming for Camaro

So... as of January 1, 2010, Pontiac is dead. Buried. Gone forever. No more. Obviously, something as pesky as death ain't going to stop hard core Trans Am fanatics from driving an (almost) honest to goodness 2010 Pontiac Trans Am and/or Firebird. Why? If you have to ask... you bring up a good point. Especially because when you get right down to it, the Trans Am was rarely anything other than a Chevy Camaro with different sheet metal.

Keeping that in mind, Trans Am Depot will be offering body kits that will transform (lowly) Camaros into full-on screamin' chicken Trans Ams! Based off Kevin Morgan's original design(s), the Phoenix Trans Am kits will be unveiled at the 2009 Trans Am Nationals. And then you'll have the chance to own a Trans Am that costs more than a Camaro but is just as fast. Hey – just sayin'. Fully detailed press release after the jump.

Damn, them late 60's and 70's mock ups do look nice.:cool:

EDIT: Are they bringing back T tops?! Oh shit!

good we need this, everybody an they momma gon have a camaro by next year, im already seein too many of them :smh:

Was bound to happen. In the past, a Trans AM = Camaro with a different body and maybe some different engine choices.

Those Firehawks from the early 90's where serious.

Oh and fuck that - for the price of the kit and conversion, I'd rather have a Year One Bandit Version 3 with the Ponitiac 455/ 7.0 liter engine making ... ohhhh.... 700 HP on pump gas!!!

I remember hearing a rumor that Pontiac used to give Burt a new Trans Am every year since Smokey and the Bandit:yes:

Not a rumor, truth. T/A sales spiked during the Smokey and the Bandit run. And of course the most popular color was Black and Gold with the Screaming Chicken hood emblem.

GM wanted to make sure under no circumstances would Smokey suddenly change to maybe a Mustang or something.

Would push that any day of the week

Really like that it seems that american car companies are trying to make things that can appeal to older and younger cats...

Butt, Shelbys and Cobras still rule !!!

Nope. For a while Trans Am's and IROC were kicking Mustang's ass.
The problem was GM stop focusing on them after the mid-90's to pour more development money into the Corvette.

Ok, but you have a 700hp / 455 engine in a fully restored original 2nd Gen body. That is limited, numbered and signed. In other words, guaranteed to hold or even go up in value.

vs.

$35,000 - Camaro
$10,000 - Firebird Body Kit and Lights
$10,000 - Paint and Labor

= $55,000 Camaro worth no MORE than a Camaro :dunno:

Think about it. It's a hand-built restoration with new technology.

I know many people don't pay attention to detail, but I do... look at the european lights on the Burt Reynolds Trans Am by Year One... didn't notice that did you?
And the Tail lights are LEDs.

The rims are specially made for this application. Staggered, front wheels are 8" or 9" wide, the rear are 10" I believe.

Let's not even get on the interior.

I was watching the SPEED channel when they were building it. They showed it doing burn outs and doughnuts....... outrageous power.

one word.

AUDACIOUS :hmm:

Damn right I'm getting a Camaro with the Trans-Am kit. I've been priming my credit for the perfect purchase.
