Not my intent to dog the post, that's what I love about BGOL, foke lookin out for one another. But I owned two Compaq machines and will never own a third. I work with computer systems in my current job and can honestly say Compaq is one of the worst computers out there. They use the cheapest components possible, often rejects from other companies. We've had a contract with Dell for the past 5 years. I've never personally had a problem with one of their machines. Although I've heard their customer service is one of the worse in the industry. Again just my two cents.....

Believe it or not people have said the EXACT SAME thing about Dell!

My parent has had a Compaq laptop for almost 2 years now without any problems.

People always have something bad to say about nearly any laptop maker.

BTW Dell just had a class action law suit filed against it cause customers claimed that Dell laptops are built shitty and dies shortly after the 1 year warranty.

I haven't fucked with Dell since. I'm not sure if they have fixed the problems yet though but I'm still gonna wait a little while longer.

I read that the Intel Celeron M Processor 520 is essentially a Celeron labeled 1.6GHz Core 2 Solo with less cache.

As I said before I remember reading a while ago that Celeron's are the exact same chip as Intel's high-end chips but they just disable some cache to slow the chip down so that they can charge a premium for the "high-end" chips and discount the Celerons.

Celerons were created so that Intel would have a chip to compete in the low-end cpu market against competitors that were selling their chips that were slower for less money.

I still don't feel that there is anything wrong with a Celeron.

I don't understand why people act like it's a very slow cpu.

Reading a cpu's specs should tell you what you need to know about a cpu's performance.
But most people don't understand what they are reading.
And most people are uninformed.

I have this notebook, and I have absolutely no regrets.

It does everything that I want it to do.

This processor will surprise you!

It's been about 3 months or so, and it's performance has been flawless.

Removing Vista was a necessity though.

I tried Vista for about 2 weeks, but eventually decided to roll with XP instead.

You are right the celeron is a watered down version of the pentium, and was made to compete with the lower budget processors. But AMD has been kicking a hole in celeron's ass. It wasn't untill lately intel decided to improve the celeron's technology. I have owned a celeron, pentium and amd computers. When i build a computer (5 so far for the year) i use AMD, but i do perfer pentium.

save your money
check gotapex.com or dell site they have much better laptops usually for $200 more

I got a Toshiba satallite P205-S6267 it came with Vista but I wiped it and went with bootleg XP and added bricopack. It took a little work finding the XP drivers but it was worth it, dual processors at 1.8 Ghz is on point. I traded my HP laptop for this one. No comlaints so far.

:smh: ahhhh no. I'll never buy another 32bit cpu based computer again, and certainly not one as under-powered and outdated as this thing.

Thats because almost all of them use parts from the same manufacturers. People must remember the days of customer knows best and satisfaction guaranteed are long gone. These days its how much will the consumer spend. When you buy a product like a (Dell, compaq for example) you can bet your last dollar the majority of the parts (hard drive sound cards) inside are made by another company and for the best bargained price. Hell some times the companies pay the manufacturers to put their names on the parts. Don't be fooled, a laptop is meant to be a throw away pc. use it tell it falls apart then out the door into the garbage.

You can't tell me you honestly think when you buy a compaq, sony or dell that entire component is made by that company? I guess you think E-machine is a manufacturer too huh? Didn't you notice ACER (makes monitors) have their names on laptops. Open up your computer take a look on the inside. Hell! sony just settled a lawsuit because a manufacturer of the lenses in their cameras fucked up. I know cause i have one of their cameras and the lense fucking up and i got an email and talked to their tech support it. Why do you think they can sell you a computer so cheap? Cause they bargained for cheap parts and bought the parts in bulk. Thats why i build my own. The companies who are using their own parts moved or built their manufacturing plants overseas (cheaper labor, taxes etc). Now if you need info on how to build your own, hit me up i'll help ya.
Bro! i don't speak about things i don't know.

Like most people do.

Dumb fucks want to spend $1000+ on bleeding edge technology just to surf the web or use Microsoft Word :smh:

But they don't know any better.

I almost bought that 2nd laptop. The only reason I didn't is because I need a firewire port for my camcorder and that laptop doesn't have it nor a PCMCIA slot so I had to pass. Otherwise that bitch was mine!!!!

I just do not believe in spending a lot of money for a laptop that can break or get stolen.

I'm also smart enough to not get ripped off and only buy what I need.

$180 in rebates that you may or may not get :smh:

Also you do realize that the Sempron is AMD's budget chip right.

Just like Celeron's are Intel's.

I agree with you buy what ya need technology moves to fast. I never buy pentium and I dont use the top end AMD. But if i ever got into Graphic design or gaming i would probably go that route. I was just trying to explain why dells and compaq might have the same problems. Don't expect to buy a $100 dollar computer and it last 10yrs.

these are good for the people who does not want to spend a bunch of money not a heavy computer user.

How did you go about doing that...just copped a Gateway...ain't had time to use it yet..most likely will today...if Vista slows it up too much I want to be able to put Windows XP on it...can I use the same Windows XP installation CD I have for my desktop?

I'm aware that computer makers use parts from many different manufacturers but that's the way it has always been with pc's.

Low cost does not always equal bad quality

What company uses all of their own parts for a computer? I've never heard of that happening.

Been building my own since 2001. But thanks for the offer.

I never said any computer company makes their own part i just phrase it that way because i jut know about the states i don't know what the rest of the world is doing. and you asked. When i said they get parts from manufactures you asked how did i know. I don't argue and especially not on the internet.

:smh: :smh: Aight dude you win enjoy your day.

Damn I bought this exact same notebook too about four months ago for $500 after all the rebates. They also had a similiar model with a Duo Core Proc for $50 more. I wish I would not have been so cheap. The celeron is a slow processor. It works fine, but if you like running two or three programs at once. It will go slow. And when I say two or more programs, I mean something simple like Firefox, IDM, and Utorrent. Do yourself a favor and don't get anything less than a Duo Core. What most people are saying is right. Intel make the celeron slower on purpose. Intel make three types of processors for laptops now. Core, Pentium, and Celeron. Core is the fastest and I already told you the slowest.

Damn....did you keep Vista?

I am running utorrent now...while typing this message in firefox (with about 15 tabs open...some playing videos)...along with having a dvd playing in the background, and it has not skipped a beat.

Honestly...this pc owns.

(and I used to be a loyal PC gamer)

All that power that the companies are pushing on us with "advanced" technology is unecessary.

If you still have Vista...then that is your issue....trust me.

This notebook has not ceased to amaze me.

I went to staples today BECAUSE of BGOL lol and they did the ol bait an switch , Sold out but i can order online but when i went to go to an associate to ask him where in the store i can order it , he like I dont know if we can do that . hmm it says right on the tag that you can but he points me to a dual core amd for 80 bucks more and a gig memory with vista home prem instead of basic . After I make him leave to check on the 400 compaq, Im already about to jump on the $480 cause even if itwas a bait an switch , he was right anyway . 80 bucks more that a pretty good deal . How much ram you got in your laptop?

Not enough ram can slow a computer down to a crawl even if you got the fastest cpu out.
