I'm just a reader also trying to produce my own books also but if I hear a book is selling for over cover price...I sell that shit FAST. I really don't want individual books in the house so I either sell them back for cover or donate them.

TPBs only if the storyline is worth it.

i feel you on all that for sure. i'm just too damn busy to keep track of shit and try selling books back... even though i will eventually get rid of them one way or another for tpbs too. i'm also too damn busy NOT to buy MOST books monthly. need that escape as soon as i have a second to enjoy it

One thing you can do is follow what some of the other stores are doing by catering to the casual comic crowd. Buying whole sale boxes and FOCUSING on selling grab bags.

If you were to do it in the traditional format you will need A LOT OF REAL ESTATE - Which means more rent.

A small place focused on latest issues and ONLY sell those items that are EXCLUSIVE to vendors.

You already know it's an uphill battle to compete with Target, Walmart and others for selling figures but the vendor only items would be ideal - Check previews.

Also some spot's like 'Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash' have a USB port where clients can stick in their USB and order digital comics at a discount from their kiosk. Japan does the same thing for their mangas.

Traditional comics will be like vinyl records. There are a few vinyl record shops and they stay alive and well by buying in bulk on the cheap and selling low (yet high enough) to recoup profit.

These are just some of my ideas. I don't have the answer for all the problems going down but buying huge new issue packs and holding on them for back issue purposes with the HOPE of making more money has not worked since 2001.

People buy MP3s and CDs but stores that cater to the vinyl crowd have a secure niche of profit.

I have not been to LA since I was 18. But as far I know they do have one still up and running there.

A lot of people fail to realize that as household name Batman, Superman and Spider-man are...comics are still a NICHE product. THE MORE BUSINESS people recognize that that more solid of a future comics will have.

The sad part is that like many software companies - Marvel and DC got too big and now that shit is shrink they are looking around for a place to fit.
