~ Comics New releases ~

One thing I always like to point out is that she beat Sabretooth twice in that form, and got her ass handed to her in the Ninja body ^^.

I was just about to say the same thing.
Anybody know what issuse it was that Sabertooth almost killed her?

If the writers wanted to be creative, the British Betsy would open the door for a lot of storylines and character development.

Well I doubt they would return her to all of her old mannerisms. She's been an Aggressive character for too long now. So If she does return British, She'll retain that aggressive streak. She was aggressive before but more in a subdued way.

bringing back Betsy as british with a harder atitude would be the best of both worlds. I think she has some potential if the right writer get to handle her......................

I agree. Marvels answer to Geoff Johns is Kyle Yost. He said on his blog that he loves the character and her history, Which is just as long as the X-mens. Since she was Created by Marvel UK.

But Claremont being the douche he is, had his grubby mitts on her.

I'll find the issue and upload it. but It was right before the crimson dawn thingie. The writers sadly, caught the Hot Ninja Girl bug. She turned into a characature, and become fan boy fodder. They forgot/didnt care on how to write her, as long as she said zippy one liners, and posed.

The funny thing is as a Brit, She was one of the only X-men outside of Storm able to fight more than one foe at a time. She routinely took out 2-3 bad guys at once. As a Ninja.... :smh::smh::smh:

Thanks Tazirai. I always thought that Psylocke got exiled(ha) to the Exiles books because writers didn't know what to do with her in 616 continuity. Like Sage, or Maggott, or any number of other characters.

I dunno about this Spiral thing, I'll have to wait and see. That inevitably leads to Mojo, and the entire idea of Mojoworld and the television-driven whateveritis, to me, is one of Marvel's more uninspired ideas. Like gangster Skrulls and golden frogs. :hmm:

Then we get this Preview for X-men 508....

I'm so pissed that Greg Land is OFF this book. Not that I don't like Terry (and Rachel) Dodson. But Land's photo-realism style gave the X-Men a bit of sexiness. And made them look hip too.

The art change was just too radical for me. Dodson comes off a bit too cartoony.

Marvel needs to do away with a lot of books & clean house.

Agreed - They should also tidy up the difference btw Ultimates and the regular Marvel U.

When I went to pick up comics recently - Some new customers were trying to figure out what was what for the ppl they were buying for...I had to help the owner out because he was lost in that murk - All he knew was Ulimates was another universe...

When they come out with limited series - It should be bordered like Ult with direction

ULTIMATE Universe
ULTIMATE Universe - Limited Series
Marvel Universe
Marvel Universe - Limited Series

She bought 2 books but had shit be clear - She would have bought more.

Land isn't off Uncanny. He and Dodson do alternating arcs.

(And while I like Land more than most, if given the choice, I'd take Dodson.)

Thanks for that info.

Can't wait for Land to come back.

Why Dodson?

Land's stuff comes off looking too stiff and too often I can spot pieces that are straight traces or photoshop filters. Do a Google search and you'll find examples of him using a picture of Triple H as Wolverine and then using the same pic for Thor. There's a Topher Grace shot he used for Ultimate Mr Fantastic and a still from the movie Troy that he used for Magneto. Straight traces. Now, I'm not one of those, "How dare he" types, it's just that it often gives his work the feel of a series of still pictures rather than captured moments from a story....if that makes any sense whatsoever.

What you've stated has been a major controversy of his work. And it's something he still denies to this day. So I'm not going to get into that. I've seen it hashed out on all the comic book sites for the last few years. Especially since he came to MARVEL. These issue I don't recall ever coming up during his time at DC.

I will dispute that his art looks stiff. It's pretty elegant and photogenic to me. It makes "UNCANNY X-MEN" look hip and psychadelic. Like 70s Rock art. Stuart Immomen's early work on The Legion at DC was the same way.

Well he can deny it all he wants to but when the proof is right there in your face he just comes off looking foolish. Better to just cop to it and move along (especially since it hasn't seemed to prevent him from getting high profile work). For the record though, his Crossgen stuff came under scrutiny too.

We've simply got a difference of opinion on the stiffness of his work. We'll just agree to disagree on that one.

I also found this very ironic panel in the issue.

X-Mendontkill.jpg

If I remember correctly, wasn't there an issue where Sabretooth almost killed her when she was still "British" Betsy? I thought I remember her running around and being afraid because the rest of the X-Men were on some other mission and left her in the mansion by herself. Back in the days before they went to Australia and Longshot and Dazzler were also on the team. Before they went through the Siege Perilous thing and moved to Australia.

I hate when they put dumb shit like this in comics where the bad guy tries to kill the good guy hundreds of times but the good guy wont kill the bad guy because if he does he thinks he will be no better than the bad the bad guy, then the bad guy gets away and the circle continues
