Marvel did the same thing with Annilation it was a self contained story with B and C list characters in the main rolls. They didn't need Captain america, Thor or the X-Men to keep us interested.
I still check out Count Down and the Spin Offs only because I don't have to pay for them. The Arena and Search for ray palmer ones are cool.
I stopped with Countdown, shit is mad boring.. BUTTTTT

I still say that Annihilation would have been even bigger (gotten more attention) with Marvel's A-list cast; however, the fact that they didn't, and instead used lesser known characters mean that anyone - ANYONE - could get MERKED, which kept readers on edge like a mofo.......
Imagine how much MORE of an impact Sinestro Corps War would have had if for a moment - just a MOMENT - that DC's A - listers, including any one of the big 3 - could get killed
I mean, c'mon y'all, as much as I love S.C. War, nobody here actually believe that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, any of the JLA, JSA, was in any MORTAL danger EVEN WITH SUPERBOY PRIME runnin' through they asses

The thing about Annihilation is They killed the most well known character, Quasar. That series was put together just right. I haven't gotten into the sequel yet.
I could see one of the JSA or JLA getting bumped off. They Killed Captain America after Civil War ended so it could happen.
They are saying that they wanted it to be Batman.

is it me or after reading countdown they turning prime into the current hulk in such that he absorbs power such is the case if you have all read the end of sinestro war that even when the elder sacrificed himself all it did was juice him up even more. im surprised monarch has not tried to take him out or at least try to contain or recruit him because that bastrd left on his own is goning to be one hell of a wild card in the final war.

Don't let the picture fool you! Wonder Woman can throw down. She's beaten Superman on more than one occasion and beat Medusa while being totally blind. But Hercules is a god and is also immortal. If he had to he'd fight to the death but would Diana? She did kill this entity named Max (I think) to save Superman. So she'd fight to the death to save another. Who do you think would win?
