Ok, Bgol is a cool spot, but this thread urks me a bit. Especially now. I just seen a book on here that really provoked me to write this. I know the creative team, in fact two of the guys work for my company on OUR books. Im gonna track the link and have it killed, if I see the book resurface I'll have every link deleted within 2 hours relating to anything comic wise. Marvel and Dc can afford you guys posting the books, but for us Indy creators, this shit doesnt even allow us to break even

The reason I say that in regards to Marvel and DC, is because in chain stores what is not sold ends up like magazines, front cover ripped with barcode. Indy creators usually( 95%) invest thier own money into it, as Indies we are trying to break even. Marvel can afford 9 X-related books tanking and not take notice. Moist indies want the numbers of those x-related books that tanked. I rather you go to a comicbook shop, read it there and consider a purchase.

Thats the thing, no one truly wants to just "break even". We strive to make profit as well as tell the stories. But lets get technical for a moment, One decent single comicbook post on BGOL, containing the entire 1st story issue could attain anywhere from 1-700 hits in a 2 day average. Imagine if those hits were in fact money. At about 3 dollars a pop, thats 2100 USD that I know I wont see. Also depending on how many copies I have, how much the distrubutor decides to take out and if I have to worry about a third party publisher could all effect my wallet. The advantage only lies in gross print runs, so yeah If I have a low print run of 3000 copies, I hope and pray those copies sell so I can at least make some money back, Also that doesnt even include the additional 500 copies extra I have to have on demand at diamond. Ive got this down to a science on where the money goes and how it effects my company. I see 3 potential markets, 10-15 bones a month online for access to every comic my company has to offer including exclusive content. Graphic novels/ trades which can be sold in larger chain outlets and cd/dvd distrubution which tripples the companies titles by becoming more exposed.

But all this will cost me money first, to even achieve that goal someone has to pay up.

I can't defend downloading comics without paying.But I know this though I'm 20 years into comics. Spent thousands of dollars. I aint reading no Indy shit. I'm not wasting the money. I'm grown I'm sticking to the big names. Maybe you can watermark your pages like money but bottom line is that more people will probably read your comic free here than will ever buy it. That's not a knock on your work it's just the truth. By having it posted here you haven't lost one sale because these guys don't buy shit. Kill this thread and another will pop up elsewhere. These comics posted come from somewhere. Every illegal download starts with one purchase.

FYI Indie books downloads never reach the three digit marks total. Those who download them are just probably curious to see if its interesting. But its ALWAYS understanable for creators not to have their creations in another medium that they never intended to. So on this note so things won't be escalating, I'll be taking a break.

They also may throw the Black Panther in there as a cameo appearance. Wesley Snipes has been setting up to do a Black Panther movie for the longest so that might be a soon released as well.

I am in the recording field and every album I have ever produced and every song I made has ended up here. (As well as thousands of other sites) Deading the links and reporting BGOL will just have people more geared up to post your shit.

I understand that you're Indy, but many cats like myself only read Indie books if someone recommends them. Drayonis has an online book that is dope. He has the first three available for free. If he decides to charge for a subscription, I'll drop him a few bucks for a year. Maybe, you should just ask the fam to subscribe if they read it. Some will, some wont but at least try first.

Don't bring war to BGOL cause the cats here can get grimy.

Bro save the silly threats and - a) PM the person/people who posted the comic and respectfully ask them not to (chances are they'll listen); b) post the comic here so no one else HERE will step on your toes; c) get a grip...and develop thicker skin...shutting down this thread will not come close to solving your problem...if it was posted here chances are good that the link came from a larger site where a larger number of people are actually DLing your comic...throwing around threats here is not going for the root...shit it ain't even taking down a branch...you would just be pulling off a leaf...

Good advice if it bothers you THAT much...contact a mod or even HNIC and they'll probably make sure it doesn't get posted...the tradeoff is if you are going to bitch about people DLing your work then you can't expect to come here and promote your work either...

Again I gotta cosign...first off A LOT of comics are posted in this thread...you can't be sure that that many people are actually DLing yours and you can't assume those that are DLing are "missed sales"...they are just DLing it cause it's there...you seem like you have already done so promo here...I just say get creative and use that to your advantage...you say you don't mind people reading your stuff for free in the store if they at least consider a sale...contact the people who posted your book...ask them to stop then you do a free promo of your own...and then offer links where cats who are interested can buy more...

What you need to understand, sir, is that every "hit" is not a lost sale.
Most people who download have NO intent of purchasing, and NEVER would.

Your best bet is to aid your own cause by using ANY opportunity to bring attention to your product as PROMOTION.

"I see you guys like this comic. It's actually made by a few friends, small, independent outfit. If you enjoy it, we'd appreciate the support. I can even hook you up with a BGOL discount for a year's subscription."

As LS said, the last thing you want to do is war with BGOL. You can't win.
