This dude is lame BUT the last few months MANY comedians have had to apologize because of jokes.

Is social media killing comedy?

I realize Louis CK and them are making tons of money dealing directly with there audiences DVDS, Shows, etc.

But nightclubs for the mos part were private affairs and no holds barred...

(After Lenny Bruce of course...)

SO What do you think BGOL are there things you CAN'T joke about Anymore?

Dane Cook Jokes About Colorado Movie Theater Massacre

It's no secret that comedians push limits and comfort levels for the sake of a good punchline, but Dane Cook may have gone too far with his latest joke.

At his Thursday standup performance at the Laugh Factory in L.A., the popular comedian, 40, worked last week's tragic Aurora, CO movie theater massacre into his bit. A video shot by an audience member posted via The Daily Caller documents Cook's controversial commentary.

"So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie," Cook began, referring to armed gunman, James Holmes, who opened fire during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises on July 21. "And I don't know if you've seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap -- yeah, spoiler alert."

"I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like 'ugh f*cking shoot me,'" he continued.

Holmes, 24, is currently being held on suspicion of first-degree murder after 12 people died with another 58 suffering injuries during the mass shooting.

Cook's shocking bit comes just weeks after fellow limit-pushing comedian Daniel Tosh made a rape joke and countered with a female audience member. The Tosh.0 star later apologized, but his colleagues, including Jim Norton, Anthony Jeselnik, Louis CK and Cook defended their friend.

not social media. Political Correctness is.

I heard Eddie Griffin made a joke about some lesbians recently and they threw a drink at him.

And how exactly do standup comics think the “lines of decency” shift for them in a performance setting? Are they not human beings addressing other human beings? People have feelings, experiences and points of view. Every comic must reconcile with that unchangeable fact. You can’t walk into any room saying, “I think rape is funny” and expect that no one will react — positively or negatively. Isn’t a reaction the purpose of these types of shock jokes? Isn’t it Tosh’s natural responsibility, as a shock comic, to expect and handle reactions? If that is the case, he did so irresponsibly.

this^^^

I don't like people telling me what is appropriate or inappropriate for myself. Let me decide what I choose to laugh or cry about. Opie from the Opie and Anthony said something along the lines of how everything is fine and dandy until it hits close to home. Remember Four Loko wasn't a problem when black people where getting tore up off of it, but when white college kids started passing out from drinking it, it became an epidemic.

To this day I'm still surprised that Dane Cook is one of the most well-known and recognized comedians in the WORLD ... and has 4.2 million Facebook fans, and 2.8+ million following him on Twitter. Not to mention he does movies, and stadium/arena shows too.

This cat telegraphs his "jokes" from a mile away like a half-assed QB.

It's nice to be white and untalented. :smh:

That was a joke? :(

See to me THAT is more offnsive then anything, the fact that the shit WAS NOT FUNNY!

That should be the FIRST barometer...

was the shit even funny to begin with?

I think if a smart and interesting and FUNNY observation is made in a comedic way even a alleged "victim" will be less sensitive.

What is WORSE is a unintelligent unfunny line of insensitive shock bullshit masquerading as a joke...

that my friend is whole OTHER topic...:smh:

My view of comedy on tragic events is that the shit better be funny. Everything is fair game but if the shit not funny? Off with his head.

Not only was it too soon, but it wasn't even funny.

I saw one of his specials years ago and it was kinda funny. But dude has fallen off tremendously. I've heard of anything to get a joke, but dude it was one f'ing week ago.

A better tactic would have been to attack the suspect and the way he looked. PLENTY of material for comics.

Wow is his material that weak that he has to resort to shit like this or a reaction

^^^^^ This...

A comedian shouldn't apologize for anything said during a nightclub set. If he made it out of the club without getting his ass beat then he's good.

Might as well throw your thoughts in here, as we don't have many Dane Cook threads on BGOL for good reason. He's a half-assed, multimillionaire with lame material.

I thought dude was humorous in the beginning but then...:smh:

I give him this though...

HE was like the FIRST to REALLY pimp the internet and social media..

say what you want but dude is CAKED UP!!!

AND HE GOT HBO MONEY
...

NOT JUST A SPECIAL A SERIES!!!????

Realize only Chis Rock Larry David & HIM ever got a deal like that:smh:

does he still sell out msg

MANY comedians hate him for other reasons though,

claims he stole a TON of material...

but Louie CK had him on his show on a EXCELLENT episode where they actually talked it out...

He STILL not funny to me but I respected him for that at LEAST.

dance cook has never been funny.
its what comedians do though
i went to the funny bone in baton rouge the day after it happened and the opening act made a joke about the colorado shooting in there too... it wasn't funny and he moved on but its not unheard of

It is one of the things that amaze me most...that people think this shithead is funny.

:hmm:

Comedian Dane Cook is apologizing to the victims and family members affected by the Aurora, Colo., massacre after making a crude joke about it in his stand-up act.

Cook took to his Twitter account to admit "bad judgment" during a Los Angeles performance on Thursday, when he made light of the mass shooting allegedly carried out by James Holmes.

"The movie is pretty much a piece of crap," Cook told an audience at West Hollwood's Laugh Factory, referring to "The Dark Knight Rises,"a midnight screening of which turned deadly for Aurora moviegoers July 20.

"And I know that if none of that had happened I'm pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like, 'Ugh ... shoot me,'" he said.

Outrage from Twitter led to Cook's own 140-character mea culpa.

"I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened. I made a bad judgment call with my material last night & regret making a joke at such a sensitive time," he wrote.

"My heart goes out to all of the families & friends of the victims."

One member of the entertainment community expressing himself in a more appropriate manner is Hans Zimmer, composer for "The Dark Knight Rises."

The Oscar winner released a song dedicated to the shooting victims via Facebook. Proceeds from the sale (buyers can donate up to $2,500 for the track) benefit the affected parties. Check it out here.

What you mean its too soon....How long should a comedian make fun of a tragedy....:confused:

Hell,I made fun of the whole 911 situation on the same day.....
