Comcast to enforce 1.2TB data cap nationwide in early 2021

Cox headquarters is in Atlanta yet Cox cable isn't a major player in Atlanta.

Old FCC requirement. Cox owns the major newspaper, a couple of radio stations and a TV station so they can't also run a cable system. When they purchased the newspaper they had to sell off the cable system they had. I can't remember what system used to be Cox's either Charter's or TCI, which eventually ended up being Comcasts

Their technology is fine. and they are still to this day finding new ways to get more speed out of coax, beyond gigabit. As the article says, it's about getting extra profits from power users.
Yeah I m not in IT I have spoken to people who are. I dont know for sure but from what they have said is that there are things called nodes that you share with your neighbors and if it gets saturated it slows your speeds down. Maybe you can explain if this is true or not.

20 years ago when cable was new it was a big deal, but not really anymore. And technically DSL (which used it as a talking point) has a similar limitation just at a different point in the link. DOCSIS is much more efficient than it was back then, the majority of Comcast's cable network is fiber. Most people's issue these days is saturating their upload speed, especially with Zoom and video chats happening on multiple machines. The next generation of DOCSIS will help, but it still won't match a symmetric fiber line.

You’re a damn lie. That’s not even close to “average”

With kids doing zoom classes and streaming in covid 2020..you better do numbers...and watch yo muffuckin mouth...in Mississippi...I'm the muffuckin installer.... of cable in new construction...what do you do for a living clean... porta pottys? Lil bish

Lol...Previously i helped engineer and write your SOP for Telecoms...
In essence, i told you WHAT to do and WHY and HOW to repair it when it broke.

 :money:

Yup. There is nothing wrong with the technology of cable companies. Most are fiber up to a certain point anyways. They don't have to go fiber straight to home because you can do a lot with coax cable. One of the reasons AT&T went fiber is because they were doing Internet and TV over that old ass copper wire plant they use for landline phone. That's why their services always sucked. That's also why they bought one of the satellite companies to provide cable TV through that instead of U-verse over copper pair. Plus when this 5G shit pops off, Im sure that will be new competition as certain providers like Verizon will use it to provide high-speed data for in home use as well.

Well...I guess you don't clean porta pottys...but on a serious note...new residences...are pulling major data now..brah..due to homebodys' suffering from covid-19 fatigue..brah

Oh! I was talking about in general. Clearly with more folks staying home the current trend is going to push the numbers.

I don't think the average creature is using 4gb of data. Those of us who prefer to keep content do multiple TBs. Multiple gamers in the house will download multiple instances of these huge ass games. Everyone in this bitch pulling from a seedbox whatever it is they or I put on that bitch. UHD takes up some fucking space. When they drop some remastered shit like Beetleguese that is 70-80 gigs, it's easy to run through data. I don't download SD, 720, or weak versions.

Comcast is pathetic. Just greedy fucking pieces of shit. :smh: That ATT Fiber is the shit. You get fiber and a seedbox and blowing through a fewTBs a month is easy as fuck.

I remember niggas saying 1TB was more than enough just a few years ago when Comcast raised the cap from 300GB

All you really need is a few kids with devices and 1TB quickly disappears. Comcast knew exactly what they were doing. Shit... I've used 82GB TODAY and it isn't even 10am.

There is no technical reason for caps. So fucking greedy :smh::smh:
