250 gigs aint much especially since people are ripping bluray movies which go up to 10gigs now adays, this is unacceptable, instead of striving for the future comcast is taking a step back, it seems comcast is on the side of the record companies, all i know is as soon as a competitor rises im going with them.

Users who go over the limit will get a courtesy call from Comcast's customer service for the first instance. However, under the new policy a second-time offense means the service is immediately suspended for an entire calendar year.

It's the Feds. Pretty soon all of the companies will some sort of bandwidth restrictions. The Net is going to become just like Broadcast tell-lie-vision. :hmm::smh:

250 GB/month???

I'll be the first on the block to get FIOS as soon as it comes

Comcast: AT&T's U-Verse is messing with our network

By Eric Bangeman | Published: April 23, 2008 - 05:30AM CT

Back in the pre-fiber days, cable and phone companies competed for broadband and voice customers. With Verizon and AT&T rolling out fiber networks, competition has come to the television set—and the fight sometimes gets ugly. A source tipped Ars off to the existence of one such battle between Comcast and AT&T that's set to happen in an Illinois courtroom. Comcast says that AT&T's U-Verse service is causing problems for its customers and that AT&T is refusing to address the issue.

The situation arises when customers mix and match Comcast and AT&T U-Verse services, like Comcast High-Speed Internet and U-Verse TV. Outside of the home, the data travels over different wiring: copper coax for Comcast and twisted pair for AT&T's U-Verse. Inside the house, both services use the same coaxial wiring, which causes problems in some cases.

According to sources close to the story, the issue stems from "feedback" from U-Verse that sometimes runs back upstream beyond the confines of the house and into Comcast's network, possibly due to the two services using similar frequencies or filters (like voice filters with DSL service) that aren't working properly. The feedback ends up degrading the network for everyone else on the node. Comcast lays the blame for the problem at the feet of AT&T's technicians, saying that it's due to poorly-installed U-verse service.

There have reportedly been about 40 instances of this problem occurring since AT&T began rolling out U-Verse in the Chicago area, affecting over 17,000 Comcast customers. Unable to get AT&T to address the problems to its satisfaction, Comcast is now seeking a temporary restraining order from a judge.

"Comcast is disappointed in AT&T’s lack of responsiveness in addressing the damages they are causing our customers in the Chicago area," Comcast spokesperson Charlie Douglas told Ars. "AT&T has been aware of this problem for more than a year and yet they have been unresponsive and have no sense of urgency in addressing or fixing it. AT&T should act like a good corporate citizen and work with Comcast to resolve this privately."

AT&T is completely unconvinced that U-Verse is the source of the problems Comcast customers are experiencing and is characterizing the legal action as an attempt to keep AT&T out of the cable TV market in Illinois. "We think Comcast's suit lacks merit and will vigorously fight it," AT&T spokesperson Brad Mays told Ars. "AT&T is pleased to bring Illinois consumers a new choice for video services as we have in other states and will oppose Comcast's efforts to thwart that."

Apparently, the issue isn't just with Comcast. We've heard unconfirmed reports that Time Warner customers have had the same issues and are seeking further information from Time Warner on the issue.

Comcast's lawsuit opens up a brand-new front in the war between the traditional cable companies and telecoms seeking to encroach on their TV turf. Incumbent cable companies have fought hard against Verizon and AT&T's attempts to bypass local authorities and get nationwide or statewide television franchises. There have also been periodic spats over advertising, with AT&T suing Time Warner Cable last year over what the telecom called "illegal advertising."

Network interference is a whole other ball game, however. If Comcast's allegations are true, it pushes the battle between cable and telecoms beyond PR, regulation, and advertising, and into the network itself.

The only reason they are doing this is to protect themselves from the likes of Netflix and free t.v and video offerings on the internet. They knew if they didn't do anything now that in a few years who would need cable television. You can get almost every thing you want off the web now. They are protecting their interest. I can't hate but I sure don't like it either. :hmm::hmm:

um no dsl does not have download limits be cause its not a shared net work like cable. Torrents suck up a lot of bandwidth sounds to me like your upload limit settings on utorrent are to high for the upload speed of your internet connection put your upload speed lower to gain more speed for your web browsing.

if you have wireless why don't you use the password setting on your modem so people don't steal your wifi signal from you.

anybody know of any comcast alternatives besides FiOs in the DC area? I have Cavalier DSL now and ready to bump up the speed but refuse to have Comcast come out. Unfortunately due to some shady people, my neighborhood won't be wired for some time.
