Columbiana was a really great movie

It's always funny when people say this about actors as if it's a fact, instead of an opinion.

Who knows more about who can't act, you, directors, studios, casting directors, agents....

It's rather obvious you're speaking from the perspective of a fat unattractive female.

Thank you.

Stop the hate.

Look at the blatant hate this one black actress has gotten this morning and people wonder why we can't do shit in movies and television. We'll tear a muthaphucka down for anything:smh:

I don't know what is.
you should have stopped right there. All of those actresses I posted have acted in many different types of films over DECADES. They have depth. They adapt to each character, not be the same person in every role. They are listed in no particular order, but a person like you wants to add some order where there is none. Zoe Saldana can not stand up to ANY of those women listed IN MY OPINION. that's what we do on message boards: type our opinions.

My opinion of Zoe Saldana is mine, and several people have said she is a terrible actress--yet you focus on mine. :hmm: My opinion is not "hate" just because you want it to be. And if you think her appearance and being a 'light-skinned' black woman has nothing to do with her getting the roles she has gotten, you are not only retarded, but also in denial and wet behind the ears. It's not that she CAN'T act. It's that she's a TERRIBLE actress. Completely unconvincing, in the majority of her roles.

I love how when a light skinned woman is concerned, BGOL members are quick to use words like "hate", "jealousy", "crabs in a barrel". on a nameless, faceless board. You have no idea how people look or what their complexions are. But of course, one must be envious to have a negative opinion about someone. "Black" people have a serious problem. Of course, many of you STILL think being light-skinned with wavy is what all black people aspire to be. (Outlaw, your words, not mine)

EDIT (added the quote):
OutlawR.O.C. said:
Opinions on acting are all relative and can vary by individual but your opinions are based on what I said earlier which is a form of self hate and probably a little jealousy, maybe chicks like Zoe and Hallie remind you of the chicks you wanted to be but you could never measure up to.
Crazy how you contradict yourself talking about "opinions" being relative, but then throw in something about hate & jealousy :roflmao: I could say, maybe Zoe Saldana reminds you of chicks you could never get because you are fat, dark-skinned, & ugly. :dunno: see how that works?

Fine but thats not what you said in your initial post.

You said Halle, Zoe, and Rosario were "black lite" which is in reference to their skin tone, being mixed, or something of that nature right?

To not think she can act is your opinion which is fine, but to imply that those actresses are only successful because of their skin tone and not talent is in fact self hate because its just the same old light vs. dark bullshit that has plagued us for years.

This is your quote:
just like the rest of her kind (Rosario Dawson, Halle Berry, etc.) LOL @ black lite actresses with no talent being shoved down our throats.

You can try to spin it but that quote is some self hate shit.

If your wanted to speak on her acting skills fine you could have done that and there isnt a thing I can say about you opinion but you instead you attacked those actresses by implying that they were less black or "black lite" when compared to other black actresses.

As I said: Self Hate :smh:

My assumptions are validated by the quote I just posted from you. I doubt a lite skin individual would go around calling other light skin individuals "black Lite". How else should I take that?

So with that in mind show me where I stated "being light-skinned with wavy is what all black people aspire to be."

My statement, and the this other one that you've quoted as I've already stated are in reference to your "black Lite" statement. Someone who doesn't have some type of vitriol, jealousy, or some type of issue with light skinned individuals just simply wouldn't say some dumb shit like that. And your post that "some of us STILL think being light-skinned with wavy is what all black people aspire to be." confirms that fact IMO.

i wouldn't go that far and say shes a terrible actress just not one that i feel can whole a movie down on her own! Based on her previous acting performances....plus i have to admit i have a problem with movies like this, salt etc....No doubt women can be super heros, shoot them up, bang bang, i personally dont think they can or should the same way a male character would.Rambo fight 5 guys..taking punches and giving them, okay he might win but he getting touched...nowa women doing the exact same thing under the exact same setup....COME ON MAN!

Feel the same I just can't take her serious as a action star.

The movie was good but not great. It was way better than salt because she didn't go head to head with everybody.
These dummies who didn't see the movie want so badly to believe that to the point that they make up shit. Everybody who ACTUALLY SAW THE MOVIE (like me) just laugh. The one thing they DIDN'T do is try to have her 90lb ass beating the shit out of 10 250lb men. Rather than do that, she would do some shit like crawl through the ventilation, shoot in one direction to lure them all in one spot, then toss a grenade where they are. She wasn't hand-to-hand scrapping with that many guys. She really only straight up fought one guy in the movie and despite her fighting skills, she was still getting her ass whooped. That's realistic. There was other shit that wasn't but there was nothing too off about the fight scenes.
And I agree, it was good but not great. It was entertaining for what it was.

Her love interest was the weakest part of the movie. And why did it have to be a white dude??

:smh::smh::smh::smh:

They didn't have the chemistry and it looked forced.

Very true - but outside of this I enjoyed the movie.. I wouldnt call it a classic but its a Blu-Ray collection for sure.

This movie sucked!
After the intro when her parents were killed, not a soiler because they say that in the commercial, the rest of the first hr was a waste. they could have left all of that out or at least given us the nutshell version. The story line was choppy and poorly written, no explaination of anything, i.e. loverboy and how he just appeared and they fucked. When you watch this on DVD or Netflix, cuz it isn't worth the $10 bucks, watch her parents get killed, then FF to the dinner, the FF to where she has the car crash. That's where the movie gets good. Everything else should have been on the cutting room floor.

I haven't seen it yet, but my friends who have said it was very good. I'll check it out.

Does that go for if there is a black woman with a white love interest? Or does it also go if there is a film where a black man has a white love interest?

What is the use of showing healthy black relationships in movies if she might not believe in them? Take Paula Patton for example. She was in Idlewild as Andre's love interest, Deja Vu as Denzel's love interest, Just Wright as Common's love interest, and Jumping the Broom as Lazaro Alonzo's love interest. All black men, but in reality she's married to a white man (Robin Thicke).

I guess no one checked out her films where she black love interests:
-Drumline
-Takers
Well Takers I can understand because that shit sucked!

Did people feel this way about Halle Berry?

It doesn't matter what she is married to in real life. I'm talking about the image on screen.

Drumline, Takers, huh? Let's take a look on non black love interest.

Columbiana
The Losers
Death at a Funeral
Avatar
Star Trek
After Sex
Guess Who
Haven
The Terminal
Infinitely Polar Bear

She has 0 power, dude. NONE. She can't make any decisions yet. She's just starting to get major movie interest. They probably won't even let her ad lib yet. Right now, the bitch is just trying to work like every other actress in Hollyweird.

Wesley Snipes has fucked every race of woman or had every race of woman as a love interest in his movies. Come on. If you watch Snipes' joints, you have to know this.
Black, white, asian, hispanic. Wes has hit 'em all. I dont think he's had an Indian bitch or an Eskimo yet but he's still got a few unreleased movies, so... :D
you just proved my point. He diversified, and she can chooses what projects to be on. shes not a slave.

Son said...not just "great"..but "really great". I can't co-sign that..

Just saw it at the theatre recently....decent flick if you don't take it too seriously. With this and other flicks in this genre you gotta suspend the fuck out of your disbelief.... I basically looked at it as a modern female revenge B-movie. the story and script was a lil weak, had some cliches, lack of character development, and a whole shitload of unintentional comedy...like there's a moment where you can CLEARLY see a stunt double..an asian bitch dressed as zoe saldana in one scene..wifey and i looked at eachother like "wtf?" and fell out laughing.

anyways regardless of all the flaws..the flick was entertaining...I give it a 6 outta 10

True but look at what she has done since Star Trek:
Avatar, Death At A Funeral, The Losers, Takers and now this movie, which is the first chance she's had to play a lead.
No actor in their right mind would turn down a role like this. It seems like it was practically written for her. Luc Besson wrote it! Who would pass on that?
She did alright. She's no Thandie Newton but neither is Kerry Washington or most of the other crop of young, new black actresses.
And black women for some reason (the ones I talk to) like to drop Kerry Washington's name like she's some kind of academy award level actress but she was in Lakeview Terrace - one of the most bigoted, assinine, white-people-pity movies made to date. I hated that shit.
Plus, she hasn't done anything that showed that she was all that dynamic of an actress. She was good in "Night Catches Us" but to me, it looks like she's about the same caliber of actress as Zoe.

Glad you saw it

Hated that shit :smh:

I know white people we're like, see they're racist too

Movie was ok at best. Had too many plotholes and cliches for my taste. And the whole white boy love interest was way too forced and the guy was a lame. Shit let me have a bitch who doesn't talk but shows up at my crib, doesn't run her mouth, cooks, cleans, buys alcohol, fucks me and leave. I would be in heaven...
