Clarence Thomas wrote 50 pages about why it’s ok to keep Blacks from voting.

Did anyone actually read and understand what or why Judge Thomas voted like he did ? Thread title is a lie

Did you?

Page 47 of Thomas dissent (pages 47-96):
"The question presented is whether §2 of the Act, as amended, requires the
State of Alabama to intentionally redraw its longstanding
congressional districts so that black voters can control a
number of seats roughly proportional to the black share of
the State’s population. Section 2 demands no such thing,
and, if it did, the Constitution would not permit it."

Page 91:
"The District Court held that this showing, plus racially polarized voting and its gestalt view of Alabama’s racial climate, was enough to require the State to redraw its districting plan on the basis of race. If that is the benchmark for vote dilution under §2, then §2 is nothing more than a racial entitlement to roughly proportional control of elective offices—limited only by feasibility— wherever different racial groups consistently prefer different candidates."

Thomas, is of the opinion that upholding (instead of gutting) Section II of the VRA, which prohibits redrawing of congressional districts (gerrymandering) based on race, makes Section 2, "nothing more than a racial entitlement to roughly proportional control of elective office".

That reasoning sounds more like his Pro-MAGA wife, Ginny, than an actual Judge.

I read it and the board sentiment is correct. This if from the article if you dont find this to be bullshit there is no hope for you. "Thomas said he's "long been convinced" that the Voting Rights Act only regulates voters' ability to actually get to the ballot or cast it."

And he is correct as far as I understand . What he said later in the article was

---Thomas said the Voting Rights Act doesn't require Alabama "intentionally redraw its longstanding congressional districts so that black voters can control a number of seats roughly proportional to the black share of the State's population."

"If it did, the Constitution would not permit it," he wrote.----

to put it in other words, the districts have been in place for a long time and were not created to weaken the black vote . So , do we need to be clumped together to succeed ?
AS OF 2020 CENSUS
Race and ethnicity (White alone 61.6%; Black alone 12.4%; Hispanic 18.7%; Asian alone 6%; American Indian and Alaska Native alone 1.1%

When we make up only 12.4 % of Alabama how do we have to draw the redistricting map to make a real difference ?

What you did in your reply is called conflation. Conflation is the merging of two or more sets of information, ideas, etc.

1: Alabamas black population is 27-30%. Alabamas white population is 65-67%.

2: The US's black population is 13%. The US's white population is 60%.

1 & 2 are two separate sets of information.

5 millions people live in Alabama, 3.2 million white and 1.5 million black (roughly).

Of the 7 Representatives in Alabama 6 are Republicans and 1 is a Democrat.

The question (or one of the questions) in the case of Alabama was/is, whether or not the districts are drawn to accurately reflect the population of Alabama. Going by the numbers there should be at least 2 Democrats in congress but the map is drawn in such a way as to disburse the black vote thus ensuring a certain outcome despite population numbers.

What difference does it make if we have all Black districts and we vote for Black representation and then that Black representative votes for everything but a Black agenda? Eric Adams is Black how's that turning out, Brandon Johnson is Black how's that turning out? Terri Sewell is the congressional person in Alabama and her constituents had hookworm meanwhile she was worried about illegals. Clyburn is Black anyone seen his district?

There's a whole cliq of BGOL that thinks Thomas is a hero. Especially cause he's also married to a white woman.
I have hated Judge Thomas for years upon years . Old never do or say nothing piece of shit , but , i was wrong and had to take a longer look at his reasoning .

Anyone can and should pull up the census 2020 figures I posted . All I did was copy and paste

The reasoning you stated about needing to redraw the districts to reflect and give blacks more representation based on race is unconstitutional and will have a negative impact moving forward . What about Latinos, who outnumber blacks , what about gentrification, what about when it's used as a justification to remove a black representative .

There has never been a more self-hating black man than Clarence Thomas. He's not an Uncle Tom, he's worse. He's a Judas.
I beg to differ. Them sambos are everywhere. And their Samboism is just as strong. Clarence Thomas is just the most powerful and exposed.

50 pages from a man known for not writing much....I know that he was teased hard when coming up because of his darker complexion but dammit Clarence, enough is enough man...the personal vendetta is obvious...50 bloodclaat pages (probably written by staffers but still)
That brother lives on Harlan’s yacht — he ain’t pissed about nothing.

I think your assertion is pretty much a distinction without a difference but I get your point.

50 pages of hate basically. Wouldn't be surprised if he'd been reprogrammed by his wife to look the other way when it has to do with black folks.

Just vote for your white favorites and be done.

You're arguing against black people getting representation in the the Government. That's as sambo as it gets.

Clarence Thomas.
His place in history is truly assured.

In fact, the maps in question were enacted in 2021 precisely to limit the Black vote.

Feb. 7 2022: The U.S. Supreme Court stayed the federal district order requiring a redraw of the newly enacted congressional map for the 2022 elections. Alabama will be allowed to use the contested map and the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case later in the year.

Jan. 24 2022: an Alabama federal district court blocked the congressional map enacted in November 2021 on Voting Rights Act grounds.

Nov. 4 2021: Governor Kay Ivey signed both the congressional and state legislative maps into law.

Nov. 3 2021: The legislature approved congressional and state legislative maps.

Oct. 26 2021: Congressional and state legislative draft maps were released by the joint legislative committee.

Congressional dysfunction is the goal.

Have you ever taken a puppy out for a ride? It sticks its head out the window and appears to be enjoying life. Imagine the air hitting you while on a yacht. They say sea water air is sublime.

The census numbers you quote are national numbers. The stats I posted are state numbers. whether you copy and pasted or not you're comparing apples to oranges when you do that. You mentioning national census numbers has absolutely not place in this conversation and if your argument is based on THOSE numbers your argument is based on a conflation. Latinos outnumbering blacks also has no bearing in this conversation about ALABAMA and is district maps.
