Chuck Roast Kalbi
Today I am letting you in on a local Hawaii secret — using thin-sliced chuck roast for boneless kalbi.
Short rib can get expensive, but chuck roast gives you that same sweet, salty, garlicky kalbi flavor for way cheaper. It’s more cost-effective, easy to cook, and perfect for meal prep all week.
I get a lot of questions on if it is dry but trust me, if its thinly sliced, and cooked right, its just as tender as kalbi and still packed full or umami and that beautiful char. Don’t sleep on Uncle Yoshida sauce, that is THE BEST in the game and a secret too.
Recipe
Ingredients
* Thin-sliced chuck roast that you can get from @Costco* 1/2 bottle Mr. Yoshida’s sauce* 1 cup minced garlic
Instructions
1. Marinate your thin-sliced chuck roast overnight or for at least 30 minutes2. Fire up your grill nice and hot3. Grill both sides until you get that beautiful char.4. Top with green onions, sesame seeds, side Mac salad and rice5. Pack up your leftovers for your weekly meals
This is a budget-friendly boneless kalbi hack that still brings all the Hawaii plate lunch flavor.
