A television show on AMC hosted by the comedian Chris Hardwick will not air as scheduled, the network said on Saturday, following allegations from an ex-girlfriend, Chloe Dykstra, that he had emotionally and sexually abused her.

In an essay posted on Medium on Thursday, Ms. Dykstra, an actress and model, said she had been in a three-year relationship with a man who repeatedly sexually assaulted her and enforced restrictive rules. She did not name Mr. Hardwick specifically. In a statement on Saturday he said, “I’m devastated to read that she is now accusing me of conduct that did not occur.”

AMC said in a statement that Mr. Hardwick’s show, “Talking With Chris Hardwick,” would not go on the air. The second season of the show had been scheduled to debut on Sunday.

“We have had a positive working relationship with Chris Hardwick for many years,” the network said. “We take the troubling allegations that surfaced yesterday very seriously. While we assess the situation, ‘Talking With Chris Hardwick’ will not air on AMC.”

When they broke up shortly after she kissed another man, Ms. Dykstra said, “he made calls to several companies I received regular work from to get me fired by threatening to never work with them.”

“He succeeded,” she wrote. “I was blacklisted.”

In a statement on Saturday, Mr. Hardwick denied the allegations.

“Our three-year relationship was not perfect — we were ultimately not a good match and argued — even shouted at each other — but I loved her, and did my best to uplift and support her as a partner and companion in any way and at no time did I sexually assault her,” the statement said.

“When we were living together, I found out that Chloe had cheated on me, and I ended the relationship,” the statement added. “For several weeks after we broke up, she asked to get back together with me and even told me she wanted to have kids with me, ‘build a life’ with me and told me that I was ‘the one,’ but I did not want to be with someone who was unfaithful.”

The statement from AMC said that Mr. Hardwick had decided to step down from moderating panels at Comic-Con International in San Diego next month.

Kaaboo, a music and comedy festival in September in Del Mar, Calif., at which Mr. Hardwick had been scheduled to perform, said in a statement on Friday that it “does not condone, and will not tolerate, any type of abusive behavior or harassment,” and that it had decided to pull him from the lineup.

Nerdist Industries, a digital entertainment company founded by Mr. Hardwick, removed his name from its website, said a spokeswoman for Legendary Entertainment, which now owns the company. She added that Mr. Hardwick “had no operational involvement with Nerdist for the two years preceding the expiration of his contract in December 2017.”

Mr. Hardwick is a stand-up comedian, podcast pioneer and digital media entrepreneur who built an empire around nerd culture.

He was also involved in a series of television projects and hosted “Talking Dead,” an AMC show in which he discussed the hit series “Walking Dead” just after it aired; and “Talking Bad,” which did the same for the popular series “Breaking Bad.” On the first season of “Talking With Chris Hardwick,” he conducted interviews with movie and television stars.

Prominent men across a wide range of industries have faced accusations of abuse in recent months, and many women have used the hashtag #MeToo on social media to share their experiences of sexual harassment, assault and rape.

“I’m not alone,” Ms. Dykstra wrote of her own experience. “This kind of relationship is so common, and so easy to slip into. Normalizing behavior happens incredibly quickly, and one can lose track of what is acceptable treatment.”

Chris Hardwick will no longer moderate AMC and BBC America panels at Comic-Con next month.

AMC announced the news in an official statement issued on Saturday in response to the allegations of sexual assault and emotional abuse against Hardwick that surfaced yesterday. The statement also confirmed that the second season of Talking With Chris Hardwick, which was set to premiere this Sunday night with guest Donald Glover, would be pulled from broadcast as the situation continues to unfold.

“We have had a positive working relationship with Chris Hardwick for many years,” reads the statement. “We take the troubling allegations that surfaced yesterday very seriously. While we assess the situation, ‘Talking with Chris Hardwick’ will not air on AMC, and Chris has decided to step aside from moderating planned AMC and BBC America panels at Comic-Con International in San Diego next month.”

Hardwick had been set to moderate the Doctor Who panel at this year’s SDCC, as well as to moderate the Hall H return of The Walking Dead.

NBC also released a statement on Saturday, saying the network was assessing its relationship with Hardwick, who hosts the game show The Wall: “These allegations about Chris Hardwick took us by surprise as we have had a positive working relationship with him. However, we take allegations of misconduct very seriously. Production on The Wall does not begin until September, and in the meantime we are continuing to assess the situation and will take appropriate action based on the outcome.”

Backlash against the Nerdist co-founder has been swift since a Medium essay titled “Rose-Colored Glasses: A Confession,” written by his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra, was posted Thursday. In the heartbreaking and disturbing piece, she details the repeated abuse she suffered at the hands of an unnamed ex-boyfriend, many of whom believe to be Hardwick.

The piece describes a boyfriend more than a decade older than Dykstra and who went “from a mildly successful podcaster to a powerhouse CEO of his own company.” (Nerdist first found life as a podcast, with Hardwick eventually rising to CEO of Nerdist Industries.) During the relationship, she describes a partner who intensely restricted her drinking, actions in public, and sexual autonomy.

After their breakup in 2014, Dykstra alleges this ex and another friend worked to blacklist her from the industry, making it difficult for the actress and cosplayer to find work even as she recovered from the abuse.

Hardwick denied the allegations in a widely criticized statement that focused on infidelity on Dykstra’s part at the end of the relationship and added, “I do not condone any kind of mistreatment of women.”

In response to the allegations, Nerdist’s parent company Legendary quickly removed all mention of Hardwick from its website. “Chris Hardwick had no operational involvement with Nerdist for the two years preceding the expiration of his contract in December 2017,” Legendary said in a statement after scrubbing Hardwick’s name from the site he started. “He no longer has any affiliation with Legendary Digital Networks. The company has removed all reference to Mr. Hardwick even as the original Founder of Nerdist pending further investigation.”

In addition to being dropped from a gig at the upcoming Kaaboo Festival, other projects involving the popular host may be affected in the coming days; Hardwick signed a three-picture deal with Blumhouse last year, the future of which has yet to be announced.

Though Dykstra has not confirmed that she was writing about Hardwick, the actress did acknowledge the groundswell of support for her that followed the Medium post.

Chris Hardwick Denies Sexually Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend Chloe Dykstra
The Nerdist founder said he was “blindsided” by the actress’ claims of abuse.

Without naming him, actress Chloe Dykstra described in a viral Medium post Friday a past boyfriend who became emotionally abusive and allegedly sexually assaulted her in the three years they dated.

The subject of her disturbing story was widely assumed to be Chris Hardwick, a known ex-boyfriend.

Now, Hardwick, the founder of Nerdist and “Talking Dead” host, has issued a statement seemingly confirming his identity in the essay and denying that the abuse took place.

During the relationship, Dykstra was “terrified” of upsetting Hardwick, she said, and allowed the alleged assault to continue because he “expected” her “to be ready for him when he came home from work.”

“Every night, I laid there for him, occasionally in tears. He called it ‘starfishing.’ He thought the whole idea was funny,” she wrote.

Hardwick said in a statement provided to Deadline late Friday that Dykstra’s accusations were “very serious” and “not to be taken lightly.”

“I was heartbroken to read Chloe’s post,” he continued. “Our three year relationship was not perfect ― we were ultimately not a good match and argued ― even shouted at each other ― but I loved her, and did my best to uplift and support her as a partner and companion in any way and at no time did I sexually assault her.”

Chris Hardwick and Chloe Dykstra appear together in 2014. According to Dykstra, Hardwick would “scream” at her for something as small as “gasp[ing] at a cute puppy” and startling him.
Dykstra detailed a wide array of misconduct in her essay, shared widely over social media. She said Hardwick would not let her befriend other men unless they worked together, would not let her drink since he was sober and would not let her speak to him at times in public places. He controlled many aspects of her social life, she said, and isolated her from her friends.

At first, the actress thought her new boyfriend was “going through some serious emotional discomfort” after ending a separate long-term relationship, and called that belief “a huge mistake.”

“When cameras were on us? He was a prince. Turn them off, he was a nightmare,” she wrote.

According to Dykstra, the couple broke up after she met and began a relationship with another man. After the breakup, she said, Hardwick and another woman in the entertainment industry succeeded in blacklisting her from companies she had worked with in the past. She contemplated suicide.

Hardwick denied all of Dykstra’s claims in his statement. “l was blindsided by her post and always wanted the best for her,” he wrote. “As a husband, a son, and future father, I do not condone any kind of mistreatment of women.”

Nerdist, the company Hardwick started as a podcast that grew to become a network owned by Legendary Entertainment, issued a statement in the wake of the essay’s publication to distance itself from its founder.

“Chris Hardwick had no operational involvement with Nerdist for the two years preceding the expiration of his contract in December 2017. He no longer has any affiliation with Legendary Digital Networks,” the statement read.

“The company has removed all reference to Mr. Hardwick even as the original Founder of Nerdist pending further investigation.”

AMC, the home of “Talking with Chris Hardwick,” announced Saturday in a statement that the network would suspend the program while it “asses[es] the situation.” Hardwick has also canceled plans to moderate two upcoming panel discussions at San Diego’s Comic-Con next month, the network said.

essay posted to Medium late Thursday, the actress shared disturbing allegations from a relationship with a man who was believed to be Hardwick, accusing that man of abuse and sexual assault. She did not name Hardwick in her post.

Still, Hardwick was swiftly scrubbed of all references from the website he co-founded, Nerdist, the following day. Hardwick is CEO of Nerdist Industries, though the company said he had no operational involvement in recent years. Legendary Entertainment acquired Nerdist in July 2012 and said it was investigating the claims.

Hardwick addressed the allegations directly later that night, saying he took the day to consider how to respond. Denying the claim of sexual assault, he said, in part, "I'm devastated to read that she is now accusing me of conduct that did not occur. I was blindsided by her post and always wanted the best for her. As a husband, a son, and future father, I do not condone any kind of mistreatment of women."

Hardwick had already been announced to moderate a Doctor Who panel for BBC America and continues to have an overall deal at AMC where he hosts The Walking Dead post-show, Talking Dead, among other aftershows.Fear the Walking Dead just wrapped its midseason run; the flagship doesn’t return until October.

AMC Silences Chris Hardwick Talk Show & Comic-Con Panels After Abuse Claims

AMC recently announced that they were pulling his talk show and that he will no longer be moderating panels at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Now, NBC has announced that they will “assess” the situation in regards to Hardwick’s position as the host the game show The Wall.

NBC released a statement to Deadline Saturday saying: “These allegations about Chris Hardwick took us by surprise as we have had a positive working relationship with him. However, we take allegations of misconduct very seriously. Production on The Wall does not begin until September, and in the meantime we are continuing to assess the situation and will take appropriate action based on the outcome.”

The statement comes after Hardwick’s ex-girlfriend Dykstra took to Medium to pen a first-person account of alleged sexual abuse during their three-year relationship. Dykstra never mentioned Hardwick by name, but details about the “mildly successful podcaster” who grew into “a powerhouse CEO of his own company” suggest she was referring to him.

The Wall debuted on December 9, 2016, and was renewed for a 20-episode third season in March.

Executive produced by LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Andrew Glassman and Hardwick, the game features two-person teams related by family, friendship or life experience competing for a cash prize. If a question is answered correctly a green ball falls down the five-story wall, adding the value of the slot to the players’ winning total. If it’s wrong, a red ball will fall and deduct the value from the team. With more than $12 million on the line, teammates have to work together to build a huge cash prize.

Isn’t this the talk soup guy? Why is he supposed to be so famous? What has he done other than that shit?

I'm a bit surprised.... I get it... it's an accusation and you can't put anything past anybody.... the racist call on here is beyond reaching.... at least based on that little blog article provided. There was nothing racist about his response... if he is in fact a racist maybe he displayed this in other ways but to throw that out there in the manner they are doing seems like a loaded attack. You know how white people feel about being called racist (even the ones who are)....

Let's see what comes out of this whole ordeal... in terms of how it's investigate or whatever...

Seems no one really cares about the racism part

No surprise.

First it was not racist

And even if it was?

Nobody would care.

Second the tape accusation kinda trumped everything else.

So you know one party, but not the other, but you believe that side without even hearing the other side

And then you go on some campaign against them :smh:

Funny how that works right?

White folk could see a video of an innocent unarmed man bring shot by police in front of his wife and child...

But need more video.

They still dont understand kneeling has nothing to do with troops.

Won't give up any and all rights to guns no mattER how many schools get shot up.

But one accusation is ALL the proof they need to take someone name job and livelihood. It's so simple and clear cut.

Will she open every show with"I'm Yvette Nicole Brown filling in for Chris Hardwick, and this is Talking Dead"..?

All jokes aside?

That isn't a bad idea.

She would show some loyalty to the old hosts and fans who support him and also move on from him until at least they can prove what the hell happened.

Never met him but i heard things so....WTF???? DONNA DICKENS??

I think he's telling the truth. She cheated on him,he didnt take her back. Now she's bitter because he was a blogger then now he has fame
Unless that evidence she claims she has comes to fruition,i believe him

How the hell are you supposed to prove this he said she said shit? It's crazy how he might lose everything before things get investigated. That court of public opinion is a muh fucka.

In this day and age of WHITE FEMINISM where they constantly victimize themselves, your guilty by default especially if you're a minority. This is why I'm baffled by minority women that supports feminism. It's not for you and not made to support you.

For the most part I stay away from white women. They know how to play victim role to the T. I offended one Dominican chick at my old job and most of the white women took more offense to a situation that didn't happen to them and most importantly a situation was NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. They victimized themselves. I don't address them unless it's strictly work related.
