Legacy US automakers aren't going to survive. Even without allowing these Chinese cars to America, legacy U.S automakers days are numbered.

The Chinese auto industry has left Detroit in "the Model T era" by comparison. While the US has been wasting $10s of trillions$ fighting useless wars on 3rd World countries -- the Chinese have been using the $10s of trillions$ made selling cheap-Chinaman-made-junk in Walmart & Target to modernize & introduce innovate their industries. Detroit could not compete with China so politicians tariff China to force US consumers to buy inferior -- overpriced Detroit autos.
Bruh, they have self driving cars for less than $30k.... like full electronics infotainment.... ambient lighting, wireless charging, phone connectivity options......from mid size cars to suvs..... many options brand new, less than $35K
Cars that would easily be $50K and up.....
And let's not talk about the electric or hybrid options...... and THE FUCKING 5 - 10 MINUTE FULLY CHARGED TIMES!!

Manufacturing, mining and other 1930@ era "blue collar" jobs are extinct!! We have to let those go, many other countries do them better and cheaper.... we need to find new arenas to lead/innovate/ advance in.
What crazy is, the new batteries that BYD is using for the swift charging...... US companies created them, but the Chinese government saw the potential and subsidized / made a mass investment into it......
Since their electric grid is modern they don't have the limitations we do and could take full advantage of the technology.
You try that shit in someone's house here, in the majority of cities it would probably melt the power lines to the house, if not the transformer for the whole neighborhood.
my ride from the airport in bangkok was a chinese electric car. i dont remember the brand. my driver said they dont fuck with tesla and they're running him out lol

Most EVs can still operate while submerged..... (its not recommended)
but their cabins aren't all water tight, haha
