First I thought that it might have been a serious book for children about dealing with sexual abuse, until I read the pages with the "counselor" saying that the child was not gay, he only needed Dad's love, and Uncle Pete begging for "forgiveness" . . .

. . . Then I realized that this was some Mid-America, Radical, Christian Fundamentalist (There is no such thing as being born "gay", we can "cure you", etc.)Bullshit :hmm:

No parent in their right mind would give a child a book like this. This book is wrong on so many different levels it can only be described as garbage.:smh:

You took the words right out of my mouth. I want to know who in their right mind would give a child a book like that. Totally disturbing.

This open acceptance of faggotry in America has gone WAY too far. The shit is a perversion...flat out. Killing the family structure and fucking up the minds of many. To hell in a Yukon we all go...shit!!!

:confused:I think its suppose to be used in sexual child abuse cases with kids not just for reading purposes... i'm not sure though

I was thinking the same thing until I read Noirs' comment. Either way the book is still strange and kinda disturbing.

that is used for therapy, police, counselors, etc. that's why it comes off as "numbing"

we had a very similar book on our shelf along with others when i worked in a school system here in cleveland.

Yep - "you TOO can be an EX-Gay"

I think this is a book used to help children who have gone through traumatic situations such as this written from the ultra-conservative Christian perspective.

I am a firm believer that some people are born gay and some are not...those that are not I believe are are turned out from a young age from something that probably had its begins starting how this story did...

I think this book is necessary to those people who have had this happen to them... and they are confused about their sexuality now.

I am sure there is some gay person out there that is gay SOLELY because an adult of the same sex took advantage of them...

Someone needs to forward this thread to RAZ B...POST HASTE! (though I have the feeling that he's already read this book)

Shit is crazy...but part of it coincides with my belief with why so many young Black boys growing up think jail/prison is some rites of passage type bonding experience...I don't think this is a legitimate children's book though...

If this is a modern-day children's book... When I have kids, I won't be buying them... All I really have to say is WOW!!!

yeah ummm was ALMOST ok with the book until the end

WHAT TYPE OF COUNSELOR WOULD BRING THE "PEDOPHILE" IN FOR A CONFRONTATION TYPE OF EXERCISE INSTEAD OF ALERTING THE AUTHORITIES?!

it is his legal duty to do so.

also, this book is kind of leading in the way its written...reminds me of the movie they did about how a therapist used dolls to help lead on the children in an alleged daycare pedohpile case.

funny....so a boy that thinks he is gay just needs to get some affection from his father and everything is all better...but the uncle touching him part contributing to how he expressed....nah i'm not even gonna get into that

Exactly. No trained mental health professional would have put that "now I know I'm not gay" crap in a book targeted toward sexually confused kids. Only crazy xtians and bama-ass BGOLers are that stupid.

wow this is a disturbing story sadly theres no good way to tell it

i can imagine quite a few kids go thru this and maybe this book will help them become confortable to open up...or help them realize that what happened to them was not thier fault

id rather a kid read that book...and hopefully rehablitate and go thru some therapy

instead of growing up to be a fucked up adult who does the same thing to another kid

I really hope that was for play play and not real. My English prof would have loved for this propaganda to be criticized in class.

Can we get a title?

I feel bad inside for the little boy... :(

you all are looking at it wrong.

your looking at this story through adult eyes

you have to see it through a 6-12 year old's eyes to understand the reasoning as to how the story is told.

*and y'all call me insensitive.

the story is told so the child will feel comfortable to tell their own story. notice there's nothing in the book about going to jail or anything. it's set to be conversation starter for kids to tell what's going on. it's a lot easier in many cases to read stories like this to some kids to coax out from them incidents which may happened instead of telling them 'tell us who did what to you'

i guess you would have had to have some work in that field to understand....

well i am in that field and i said i almost agreed with the book until the end. i can see someone using part of the logic behind the book but tweaking it for their own style

i see what they are trying to do but i don't exactly agree with it.

now i will admit that i'm a beginner...so from your experienced opinion...would you bring in the molestor so the child can confront them?

what if the child brings up the question of anything bad happening to the person? (well ur a professional you know y that question might be asked)...how do you explain the jail aspect to them...besides saying that the person will be getting some help...especially being that children are raised to believe that jail is bad. (i have an idea of how i would handle this but its always good to get other opinions.)

the end is more or less temporary closure on the child's part. especially if they have no idea of the justice system. this is all about being able to coax their side of the story from them.

No, you would never bring a molestor into confrontation with a child to tell each others side of the story.

as far as the jail aspect you your ideas are right, but you have to remember "jail being bad" is something told to black kids, white kids aren't really educated about it at those ages.

So, you are implying that any "competent" child psychologist would address a child's feelings that he may be gay, by stating that the cause is he was molested when he was younger? And another reason was that he did not receive love and "touch" from his father, thus he was seeking it from other men?

If all it takes is the absence of a father to turn a child gay (or to be a significant factor), there would be a Hell of a lot more gay men out there from all these deadbeat dads all over the place . . . Umm, I may not be an expert, but that type of Freudian psychobabble was debunked over 40-50 years ago. :hmm:

Only Black kids are told that Jail is bad? White Kids aren't watching television, read books, or go to school to learn about the consequences of not following the law? Oh, I forgot, only Black people are bad so they go to jail :hmm:

i didn't write the book, i'm telling you what it's used for. take it or leave it.

the 'gay' statements were used by other kids in the book, 'namecalling' that was addressed to show that he was not gay.

as far as actually becoming gay, i have no doubts that those who were raised by their father's were still gay anyway, but that's not the point of this book.

yes african americans percieve police as a greater threat then whites. it has nothing to do with breaking the law, but the history of those in those roles and how they treated blacks. or are you now saying blacks get treated just as equally as whites by police?
