Chavez Jr. and Martinez

Sampson Lewkowicz, adviser to WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, expects the World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman to strip unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. of his organization's middleweight title in the coming days...

...A few months ago, Sulaiman issued an order which allowed Chavez to make a voluntary defense before meeting the requirement of a mandatory title bout against Martinez. Sulaiman promised to strip Chavez if he bypassed the Martinez fight, which the Mexican champion is required to satisfy by the end of March. The winner of Chavez-Martinez will then have to face Marco Antonio Rubio, the WBC's number one ranked contender.

...While a fight with Martinez would likely give us all the definitive answers we are looking for in young Chavez, his co-promoter Bob Arum with Top Rank has never seemed too keen on such a fight and has instead showed interest towards a clash with fellow Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

It’s very likely that Martinez could be angled out of the fight and such a scenario honestly wouldn’t catch him off guard.

“That is not a surprise,” said Martinez. “And if Chavez doesn’t want to fight me, it won’t surprise me either.”

Chavez’s trainer Freddie Roach has been extremely dismissive towards Martinez in recent months, claiming that he has several weaknesses as a fighter and even going as far as to call him a bum earlier this month. The esteemed trainer is very outspoken despite his low-key demeanor and Martinez feels he is a bit off of his rocker

“I’m afraid that every day he seems to know less about boxing than he thinks he really knows,” added Martinez. “That’s just the way he expresses himself. He doesn’t have any problem whether or not he feels what he says is ignorant or not.”

Trainer Freddie Roach doesn't think much of WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs). The four-time trainer of the year is not impressed with Martinez as a boxer and believes Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31KOs), the middleweight champion, would beat Martinez right now. Roach feels Chavez improved a lot as a fighter and liked what he saw on Saturday night when Julio stopped Peter Manfredo Jr. in five rounds. Roach hopes Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum will sign the Martinez fight right now and doesn't see a reason for holding it off.

"Let's do it now. I'm ready right now. He can kick his ass right, in my opinion. I don't think he's a great fighter. He's a great athlete, I'll give him that. But he's not a great fighter...anyone who gets knocked out by Antonio Margarito. I don't see the greatness. I cant take away his athleticism. He's a great athlete, yes, but he's not a great boxer," Roach said.

Freddie should do less barking and more instructing.

Tell Arum to make the fight then Freddie. Even if they fight Alvarez instead (so now they're more willing to work with Golden Boy than fight Martinez?), Chavez is still going to have to fight the man.

Isn't it funny how much bullshit Freddie is on. He essentially hyped Margs when Pac was fighting him now he is basically calling him a bum while at same time shitting on Martinez for losing to him a long time ago. Chavez hasn't even fought a Margarito level bum yet and Pac has lost to nobodies which no one will say that means he would lose to that level of comp today.

All this knowing damn well they aren't going to let him near Martinez, not the jmw champ Pac or the mw champ Chavez Jr.

You said it all right there. Freddie makes you think he has Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
