Charles Barkley: LeBron James will never be a top-five NBA great

I hope he gets back to the Finals next year

This man set records playing loose with the ball
If he gets more locked in and they get Durant?

Damn

I'd love to see Golden State get back, the problem is they're gonna experience somewhat of a let down. They wont reach 73 wins again. They'll have to bounce back from that and get locked in come playoff time in 2017.

They don't get this
I tell you
They didn't watch the games
Relying on numbers only tell you what happened
Not why

Thats the flip side, LeBron ended Detroit's reign in the East. Then the Big 3 in Boston. No one on BGOL even mentions Boston no more. Bron made them dissapear. Their big 3 is an afterthought.

Goal posts were moved. Boston AND Chicago were supposed to beat the Heat that year. They werent even supposed to make the Finals.

Let's not rewrite history. The Heat had home court advantage through the entire playoffs. They had the NBA #1 record (61 wins) because they owned the split against Chicago.

Nope fam. Chicago was the #1 seed and Derrick Rose was MVP. Boston had beat Miami 3-1 during the season and the narrative was that Bosh was SOFT and couldnt match up with KG. Also Wade had 0 good games against Boston in the regular season, but showed up big in the playoffs. Wade had a TERRIBLE series vs. the Bulls as well.

Yep. I'm fucking up the seasons. You're right. Wade was alright.. I don't think he was horrible. Bosh was good though. Lebron was great defensively on D. Rose in that series.... but that also works against Spiritualporn's theory...

Lebron really perplexed me in that Finals... that was the one where him and Wade were leaving after game 3 when they went up 2-1... that's why I said Westbrook giggling after going up 3-1 reminded me of that same shit..you can't laugh off the opponent until the series is over.

Regardless though, I don't think that series is a real tarnish on Lebron. Not like it's a trend. It's literally maybe the ONLY bad playoff series he had over his entire career and he's in the playoffs damn near every year of his career.

We can speculate a number of things but it's 2011 Finals specific because all his numbers over the course of that season and all the playoffs series before and after that Finals were consistent. The anomaly is that specific series. So either the Mavs neutralized him or he simply didn't come to play. There are no other options.
Either way it's the past
You have a take on it and you could be right
Neither of us were in the locker room

In 2016 he had a parade and won a chip for a city that hasn't had one for 52 years

2016 led both teams in 5 categories

I'm on to next season already
Can they repeat?

I'm hoping he goes to the Lakers

Hate... strong in this one it is!

Wade had a bad series against Chicago man. He dropped 30 per game against Boston and was shooting damn near 6t0% then went up against his hometown team and averaged 18 shooting 40%. I remember people wondering what the hell was wrong with him. Then he exploded again in the Finals.

Another thing. I said this before this series was over. this was THE series for Lebron's legacy. Slaying the Warriors in that fashion is just epic in and of itself... but going 3-4 in the finals is WAAYYYY different than being 2-5 man... he's a win away from bringing it even.

So everyone brings up MJ being 6-0 and in the finals and I do think that's dope.

Let's just hypothetically say Lebron goes to the finals 5 more times. That's sounds crazy as fuck but let's just say it happens for shits and giggles.

Is going 6-0 better than going 6-6? Some people are going to say going undefeated is better... but essentially that means that Lebron won the same amount of titles but the rest of his seasons were way better from a winning perspective. That's just reality.

Jerry West is different.. because going 9 fucking times doesnt mean shit if you're always losing. Lebron's situation is different.

If Lebron goes 5-7? how does that match up? Considering Lebron is going to end up with more points, rebounds, assists.. how can you hold MJ over him all because of one extra title win.

I think Lebron is probably two away from laying a legitimate claim that's going to be hard to argue against

Exactly
I was stressed because Chicago always gave the Heat fits. Wade was fucking up in that series. He usually had problems in Chicago. Maybe it's his ex wife. Who knows?
I thought sure they were going to game seven then the Heat pulled off some amazing plays in the final two minutes.

The way the season started I was surprised they made it to the Finals. They were 9-8

I remember it. Maybe it didn't feel so bad because the heat ran through the Bulls 4-1. I think Deng was giving Wade some problems. That's the series where Cran said Keith Bogans was better than Kobe. I'll never forget that series on that shit alone

Bruh you being naive. This stuff is not based on facts and stats, its based on perception. Bill Russell got 11 rings and none of the Jordan fans consider him better. There's like 6-7 other greats with more rings. The rings is just an excuse or something to hold over LeBron's head. But even if he wins 8 rings people are still gonna prop MJ up based off perception and branding. Like I said earlier, the myth of Jordan has grown larger than the player. I watched him his ENTIRE career pre and post champion and he's been OVERRATED. When J had 2 rings he was considered GOAT, it didnt matter that Bird & Magic had more and no one ever said "well he needs 6 to pass Magic". Kareem's body of work and accolades DESTROYS Jordan and he didnt pass him in anything, but he's still called GOAT right? Its all based off perception.

I never felt like you were in any real trouble. Yall won all those games comfortably... they were just hard fought grind it out games.

Wade really only had 2 games where he was shitty. The others were just average... right about 50 percent from the floor or slightly below it. Deng was giving him problems.

What I remember now about that playoff run was how shitty Bibby was..dude has completely lost his jumper

Doesn't work against my theory at all.
Like I said before. Neither of us were in the locker room or in the sidelines.
Your guess is as good as mine.
I have my reasons for thinking this way however the fact is that lost.
The fact is, Wade was watching from the sidelines this year.
Fact is that without LeBron they missed the playoffs.
I'm wondering what Wade is going to do next year.
I think he is a free agent

Naw man. I'm a fan of both Kareem and Jordan. They both have rings and stats to back up their arguments.

I'm biased against eras I didn't get a chance to watch live and I'm a bit biased against the 60s for bball man.. I watch that shit and it just feels like a different game to me... but I don't know what to say about Bill Russell.. how do you play for 12 seasons and only come up short ONCE... he's the greatest winner in teams sports.

People can say what they want but you can't deny beating a defending champion, after winning 73 games, and leading all players in points, rebounding, blocks, steals, and assists.

Like if you created some mythical greatest player of all time...what would that person do? beat a team that was on the cusp of having the greatest season of all time while leading both teams in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

That was one of the greatest moments in team sports.

The Bulls have always given the Heat fits
Wade, For some reason, just doesn't usually play well there.
The series we are talking about ended in six but if you get a chance, watch the final three to five minutes if that game six
You will see what I'm talking about

t

But man.. we can't even use that as an excuse as we'll also be able to use locker room excuses if a player plays like ass. Why did Curry and Klay play like ass (well there was some shit going on between them). Why did Kobe hijack the offense against the Pistons (because he just wanted Shaq out at all costs and didn't want Shaq getting another MVP)... I mean..when a player doesn't perform, they just don't perform.. all that off the court shit is mush... there is always off the court shit going on for every team. They're paid to deal with it.

I thought we were talking about the 2010-11 season before the series against the Mavs? I thought that was the reason for bringing that up.. as in.. Wade played great in the finals against the Mavs but he played like ass in the ECF.

I don't really think he's gotten that much negative press, though. People are saying he could have played better but he's not getting flamed like he should be.

His wife running her mouth, those non threating conservative shoes and him throwing his pacifier after getting fouled out was very telling. Curry is a flat out baller but him being the first ever unanimous definitely had an agenda behind it. Personally I had Westbrook as season MVP last year.

8 teams in the league ?
Two playoff rounds?

I am completely ignorant how it was back then
Was the competition better or worse?

How would Bill Russell's game translate today?
What kind of fouls did they call?

How did racism affect the product?

Too many questions for me

I've noticed that too. Something about Thibs defense that always had Wade unsettled.
Even before that
When the Heat were presented the rings from the 2006 championship the first game of the season was against the Bulls
They Bulls beat that ass.
When LeBron left the Heat got Deng.
I didn't think we would miss the playoffs, even with the Bosh situation specifically because of Deng. I used to hate when the Heat faced Him.

I think he was going through that nasty divorce with his crazy ass ex if I'm not mistaken

Wade doesn't have good memories of Chicago
From growing up. Some deep pain there

Curry is dealing with negative press really for the first time.
He is a cool customer though

What do you think he will do to improve?
Hard to say Bruh... I do believe he brought into his press clippings, and all that cheat code stuff went to his head. Add that to his wife's indulgences and he really proved if nothing else that he's not mature enough yet to carry the 'mantle' if you will. That's what makes LeBron so special, he's been carrying that mantle since his Jr. year in HS and carrying it well. He may not have always produced on the court but the way he carries himself off of it needs to be celebrated as much as his on court achievements.

There really isn't much for him to improve on skill wise, I think his biggest issue is, his mental approach to the game. He has shown he can penetrate, get to the basket, etc. but he can't have a reliance on the long ball or the fancy shot or pass to get things going. If he can work on his basketball I.Q. and learn to make adjustments and take what the game is offering him, I think he will be back to playing at an elite level...

School me on Westbrook please.
I really thought he turned the corner after beating the Spurs and going up 3-1 on GS.
Can someone explain what happened?

When J had 2 rings he was considered GOAT, it didnt matter that Bird & Magic had more and no one ever said "well he needs 6 to pass Magic.

It wasn't just marketing though. Because Bird and Magic were saying that shit themselves. Even after Jordan had did Zeke dirty by keeping him off the olympic team he was commenting on the NBA finals and calling Jordan the goat.

I think a lot of had to do with the system the Bulls implemented. You had this triple post offense that was very systemic and Jordan was uniquely skilled as a guard to be able to dominate from the post. So they had a great defensive team w/ him and then a guard dominating offensively from the post and putting up a lot of points. And I think even the all-time greats were wowed by it. I mean you had a guy averaging 43+ a game winning titles as a SG. It was something that Cran used to talk about.. it broke a paradigm in that previous to that you needed a good to great big man to win a title and Bird, Magic, Zeke, etc were blown away by that.... but I think in the moment people missed the SYSTEM.. that although Jordan were perfect for it, there was something else happening there with Tex Winters, Phil and the triple post.... it's the same reason why Brady although one of the greatest of all time, could get injured and the Patriots still win 11 games with bum ass Matt Cassell.

It wasn't just a media thing. It was the players pushing that narrative because they had never seen it.

Plus Jordan had this grace that was seductive. His game looked good and he played above the rim.

Look at what people say about Lebron. He's just faster and stronger and just plows his way to the basket. Essentially, they're saying they don't like the WAY he plays. But who gives a shit if it's effective. It's athletics....cant fault him for overpowering/speeding by his opponents.

Two points are two points whether it looks good or not.

But listen to Magic and Zeke now... you see what Zeke said... he was talking to Lebron and he said it's going to end up being Mike and Lebron but then he said you're in the room with these 5 guys (magic, mj, kareem, etc)..

but I think what those guys are seeing is that you can put Lebron in multiple types of teams and win with him...and then he performs in the big moments.. but what they're seeing is Lebron gives you so much more than what you could get from anyone else. Because he can give you the 40 points.. but he can also give you 13 rebounds and 11 assists and then be the guy making the big block on the fast break..

I agree with everything you just said
It's the IQ
You think him bulking up would help?

Unanimous was definitely some agenda bullshit. I actually think Curry did a lot of bitch-made shit that he got a huge pass for. I think one of the worst things I saw was when they were up big and he was on the bench acting like he was playing video games as if he was controlling the players.. It was extra-level clown shit that was crazy unsportsman-like and any other player who have gotten drilled for that shit. His wife was out of hand.. I think they got arrogant man.

Zeke threw a rain forest of shade at Mike after Game 7 (NBA TV)
He said Mike mainly had to do was worry about scoring
LeBron had to score, rebound, pass, assist and block shots for his team to win.
He is telling the truth though

I honestly.don't watch much basketball but Westbrook is one of the few players that inpress me. I think he almost averages a triple double and he's tough. If Rose has an MVP Westbrook should have one. Especially when Durant got hurt that year.

Let me ask you something. Do you see the pattern in what you just stated? Let me see if anyone else sees it.
