Beginning this week, you may notice some changes in the Uber Eats app for NYC. These updates are related to a new minimum pay rule for third party couriers established by the City of New York. Beginning December 4th, couriers will earn at least $29.93 per hour while they are picking up and delivering orders to customers. This new rule standardizes earnings for couriers using all delivery apps and includes an amount for paid time off, Medicare and Social Security contributions, expenses for bikes and batteries, and a workers’ compensation component.
As a result of NYC’s new minimum pay rule, we will be making some changes to how you experience ordering through the app, including a new fee to help offset the costs to pay couriers. Additionally, tipping will now only be available after your order has been delivered. As always, tipping is optional and intended to thank your courier for excellent service.
