My Vice President had one ... He whipped it out at lunch one day. I laughed and he looked at me crossed.

I said, "XXX, although you were invited by AMEX, why the hell would you pay a $25,000 a year membership fee to SPEND YOUR OWN GODDAM MONEY. You already have an assistant the company pays for to handle all the stuff they would do."

He got red, then laughed. It was cancelled the next day.

You may want to check those figures ... my VP said the membership dues were $25,000 per year, not $2,500.

Your VP lied and the OP's source is incorrect as well. The fee is 10K per year. But you ONLY HAVE to pay that if you don't spend 100K per year using the card. They only issue the card to people who have a history of using their Platinum Amex in excess of 150K per year. It's that simple. So basically nobody who has that card really is likely to pay the fee. There are tons of perks that the card has that an assistant at a company can't do. So if you have an AmEx acc't this is what you want......Peace

Some people may have $500 some may have millions of dollars available. You need a good balance of cash and credit...but on a side note despite popular belief black cards dont have unlimited credit limits basically everyone with one cant just by a plane or mansion with one. There is no preset limit, (just like most amex cards) if an individual who they feel cant afford the purchase the transaction will not be authorized.

Regular Platnium Business AMEX is doing me just fine.

I was responding to post above....poster was saying dont need credit cards just debit. and if you continue to read I spoke a little about the black card. Im sure you know that a lot of people dont know the importance of credit lines. I do agree with you on the point about why pay a membership whether it is 2500 or 25k. But you and i both know that that card is sometimes used just for show and can be used to impress clients.

I dont have a black card but I do have an Amex Platinum card.

I like it for the event ticket protection which is good incase you cant make it to an event that you purchased tickets too. I also like that you have access to concert tickets before they are released to the public.


I use a lot of the benefits and believe its a good card and is worth the $395 yearly fee.
