Central Heating & Air Unit $$$$$$$$$$ & more in 2020

man American Home Shield aint worth a fuck ......have a claim on your shyt heating or A/C if you did no preventive maint on your units (and in a lotta cases even if you did ) THEY WILL NOT pay you are much better off ho0oking up with a HVAC company and get a warranty Maint plan thru them

I repeat they WILL NOT....honor they agreement..it will be nullified on a maintenance issue that YOU THE HOMEOWNER did not resolve...as a MASTER plumber,MASTER HVAc, MASTER electrician...I've seen hundreds of cases of neglect and abuse on maintenance being the reason for them not warranting out MAJOR Equipment..brah

Last year my wife's mom a/c went out. She paid about 6k from Sears. Was overpriced

Cheapest way was, found out from a friend is to get the parts yourself, from refrigeration supply, and find a crew from an ad usually on FB to come and put it in. He did that for one of his units and said he was going to put another for his second floor.

He paid about $1800 for parts and another $1200 for the labor to install it.

One thing will tell you to do at least once a year that I do, religiously, is get something to clean the coils and spray with your water hose, from the inside out. Meaning turn off the fan outside, remove the 3 or 4 screws that holds it down and after spraying with a solution to clean the coils and letting it sit a few mins, then spray from inside out to blow out any grass clippings, insects or dirt.

Doing this yearly, usually Spring time and in the Fall if possible will keep your A/C running more efficient and not stressing the system.

How much maintenance did you do? How many time did u clean the acoil? How many times did u clean the condenser coils? Did you have a line drier on it..brah?
Damn, I need to get someone to check my system

Man, I had to replace my furnace in 2012 right after the divorce, cost me $2,000. I'm praying nothing else big goes wrong. I have been lucky for the most part and have had only light repairs that I did myself:
  • Broken light switch
  • Stuck garbage disposal (a screw got in there)
  • Stopped up filter on washer (Google and YouTube has been money if you search the error message)
  • Dishwasher inlet valve switch. This was last week. A $22 part. Glad I didn't call service. I just searched the error message, went on YouTube and installed it myself
As a homeowner, anytime you can avoid calling service is a benefit. I've got an HVAC friend of mine that I called out last year to fix a circuit board in my furnace. 250 bucks is much cheaper and then if I would have called a tech

my shyt so old its scary ( dint kno how old the shy is ) :dunno: ..... if i remember tho last com. that inspected was talking 5k for 16 seer ..... :money:

valve for icemaker $12, found out i need ice just as much as internet .....

So mine went out a few years ago had it replaced through the program at my utility company basically adding the cost of it to my bill over time in monthly installments. Anyone within a month or two something went wrong with it simple repair nothing major. Don’t you know after that they never charged me for it
It was probably still under warranty.

I'm using an architect and a real licensed builder who knows what to do. A graduate of GA Tech, not an apprentice of yours.
My current AC is Carrier and it's 15 years old with no problem. I always stay with what works.
I have researched the 2 stage Carrier and that's what I'm getting if it's okay with you.
Fine with me.... contractors and builders really like folks like you $$$

A lot of R22 which was the go-to refrigerant for most residential cooling units. There are laws ending them manufacture of R22 but most repair outlets have enough on hand to last for a few years. As long as some is available, it can be used, and it never spoils. I just recently sold a 30 pound tank of R12 and they stopped the manufacture of that 20 years ago. I would not recommend buying a new unit that operated on R22, but even if you did, you'd find adequate supplies for at least a few years and once you couldn't there is refrigerant R453A which is touted as a drop-in replacement. You could just evacuate the unit of the remaining R22 and fill with the new juice. Even the oil can remain. Also 6700 dollars is ridiculously expensive for a new furnace and AC unit for a 1600 sq, ft, house. Even for an expensive brand such as Carrier you'd be 0ne to two thousand too high.
Those are "winter is here, you want it or not?" prices, especially if your Unit is down for the count. They figure they got you by the balls in such situations. It's a Sellers market, they're thinking.

Had a Bryant 926T installed last summer. $7500

This past week when temps got below 15 degrees; fucker would run for an hour then cut off and I’d have to turn it off and then back on. My Nest was giving me errors about not enough power (R23 code).

Had another company come out and take a look; they are saying there’s not enough air coming in so when it has to run harder it’s shutting off so it won’t overheat.

Now I’ve got the installer coming back out because they disagree. All I know is that the extra two years of extended service I negotiated, and the warranty, shit better get resolved. System has been rock solid to this point before this issue.

Getting ready to drop my home warranty service. How do you like yours?

I have only had to use them once for furnace maintenance, but they came through. You can tell their employees are stuffed into some Jersey office doing nothing but taking/making calls.

A lot of the Yelp reviews I read make this place seem like a shyt hole, so I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Depressing but needed thread. I remember someone told me the worse time to buy a house is when it's in the 15 to 20+ year old range. A few years ago, the ac was blowing warm air, did some research and took a look and the capacitor was swollen. Found a replacement on amazon and boom..cool air again. A year later, I'm not sure what was wrong with the heater. Tech came out and charged over $500 bucks. Can't remember for what, but I looked the part up and it was $100 on amazon. Was pissed about that but lesson learned
Anyway, now the water heater (in the garage) is slowly leaking. Plumbers are coming out and giving me 2 to 3k + estimates. This is just a short 50 gal gas tank. They talking about they can't just install a new one, they gotta bring it up to code. Still don't get it when I see them in the local stores for less than 500.

Anyway, I'm not looking forward to having to replace the hvac unit.

Is it gas or electric? They bullshittin u..I charge a flat rate of 275.00 for hot water heater install only...the only code change is the pan and TP valve have to be separate drains...not on same 3/4 inch line...brah...it only takes 1 hour after u drain the bitch to install...Draining might take 45 mins...I usually hook up a garden hose and run it down the driveway and haul ass for them 45 mins drain time...brah

Something makes you think that this is my first time and that I got to this point being stupid and wasteful. Lol. Ok.

People dont understand...to get and KEEP money..u cant be a fuckin idiot...most "POOR" PEOPLE..make awful fuckin decisions...again and again and again..brah

This. I'm reading how cats getting fucked with no vaseline paying $5000 to $6000 for hvacs smh.

I got 4 properties and I've replaced hvacs in all of them. The most I ever paid was $3400 including labor. And honestly I could have got that job done under $3k if I wasn't in a rush to get it done.

Make sure you post y'all denied claims stories from Choice and American Home Shield .....they will fix some little shyt but believe me they aint about to replace no 10 year furnace or a/c unit with a brand new unit cause you been paying them monthly .......pure rip off artist
