Was at the Toronto Auto Show this weekend, and noticed that GM's lineup looks a better than it did in the past. Chrysler now, they in some fucking trouble.

Based on these rides - do u think GM can rebound and take it to the marketplace again?

Yes, with the correct range of pricing and if they can prove reliability, they can make a come back with these cars.

You haven't heard their new commercials aimed right @ Toyota???

"Buy a GM product, because you don't want to die!"

I think so as well.

The Cruise will be a very important car for them. And I have to give props to the Buicks.

With Toyota's problems, they are prime to take advantage of the situation.

All Toyota owners are gonna do is move right over to Honda and Nissan, they r not fuckin with american cars

I see some good things, but I still see some bad things. I think they still need to trim down their auto brands that are nothing more than clones vehicles with different names.

More power to them and I hope they do make a comeback. It will help to shut-up them fools talking dumb shit about the auto company bailouts.

Yup, even though statistics show that American car quality has been on par with their Japanese counterparts for awhile now, people go with what has worked for them.

Japanese cars have not let them down like their former American cars did!

GM was only in troble because of mismanagement. They were #2 behind Toyota in sales. Which is why you heard all the stuff about President trying to fire the heads at GM during the bailout.

If they can only get the quality of materials used in their interiors and the fit and finish up to par then they got winners.
The Camry is a great car but i think the Malibucompeted well against it....until you go to the inside. Camry feels soft to the touch with no gaps to be seen...Chevy, hard, cold, cheap. Same comparison can be made between flagsnips for Lexus and Cadillac.

Um, they're making important steps.

But they are still off the mark.

Limited hybrid options. :smh: Still doing BADGE engineering across models. :smh: No light pressure turbo, 4-cyclinder engines :smh: No solid entry class models to compete with Honda Civic / Toyota Corrolla / Nissan Sentra.

I like this version of the Buick Regal

They need to import this!

They always leave the Opel brand in Europe, meanwhile the designs would really attract the 20-30 market here in America which are the next generation of buyers.

GM can't keep making designs for Middle American / NASCAR crowd. I mean really - what the FUCK was this?

Agreed, many of the European models from any of the "Big Three" would really sell well with the younger buyers here in the States. I love the Ford Kuga line.

So, bottom line is that American designers ain't shit:(

Maybe out of touch is more like it.

The 2011 Fiesta and Focus are finally better in line with their European counterparts tho.

This is a joke, right?

Actually, it was a quick news snippet from when Toyota first announced their recall.

It wasn't a GM commercial, just a quote from a female Toyota owner.

They asked her about the recall and how she felt about it and she answered back,"When I drive I don't want to die!"

Bring Back The Grand National!!!!

In the middle of a recession ....

With an unprofitable company ....

With a gas guzzler engine ...

With increasing gas prices ...

And they haven't paid back their government borrowed (OUR money) ....

NO!

Nope, like I said before the American auto industry is dead. Be prepared for the day when Ford and GM get bought out by the Chinese. Fuck the flag waving bullshit.

I seen this car on the news. It's basic here but it a luxury car according to the press. Obama has got one on order and praises it.

* The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is the best car for you if you believe General Motors can build a world-class compact car.

* The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is an all-new front-wheel-drive five-passenger sedan designed to get 40 mpg on the highway.

Engineered to be sold in North America, Europe, Asia, even Russia, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze essentially replaces the Cobalt compact in Chevy’s U.S. lineup. Highlights include a high-tech turbocharged four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission, and what Chevy claims are outstanding materials and assembly quality for a low-priced compact car. Looking like a winner, however, is the interior design of the 2011 Chevy Cruise. It’s inspired by the Corvette, Chevy says.

welburn.jpg

Edward T. Welburn was appointed GM vice president, global design, on March 1, 2005. He had been vice president of design, GM North America, since October 1, 2003, when he became only the sixth design leader in GM history. As vice president of global design, Welburn is responsible for the design development of all General Motors cars and trucks. He heads a team of over 1,400 men and women operating in 11 design centers in eight countries around the world.

Under his direction, GM has walked away from the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit with the coveted 2007 Car and Truck of the Year awards for the Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Silverado, the 2008 Car of the Year award for the Chevrolet Malibu, the 2008 Motor Trend Car of the Year for Cadillac CTS, and the 2008 Eyes on Design awards for both the CTS-V and CTS Coupe Concept.

Also under Welburn's leadership, GM designed and developed the revolutionary Chevy Volt, the world's first extended-range electric vehicle whose advanced technology and aerodynamic design enable it to drive up to 40 miles without using a drop of gasoline or producing emissions. In addition, the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid won the 2008 Green Car of the Year award.

Welburn began his General Motors career in 1972 as an associate designer assigned to the Advanced Design Studios. In 1973, Welburn joined the Buick Exterior Studio, and in 1975, he was assigned to the Oldsmobile Exterior Studio. There he led the development of a number of successful production vehicles and designed the Oldsmobile Aerotech speed-record vehicle, which set two world's records of more than 257 miles per hour in 1987.

He was named chief designer of the Oldsmobile Studio in 1989. Projects there included the Oldsmobile Antares concept car and the Oldsmobile Intrigue, both of which received AutoWeek magazine awards at NAIAS.

In 1996, Welburn began a two-year assignment at Saturn, which led to an overseas assignment in Germany where he worked on future global design programs.

Welburn was named director of GM's Advanced Design in Warren, Michigan, in 1998. His team was responsible for the development of new and innovative vehicles for all GM brands. Welburn's team also led the development of all GM concept vehicles, including the Chevy SSR and the Chevy Bel Air show car, along with a new generation of hydrogen fuel cell concepts - GM AUTOnomy and Hy-wire.

Welburn was appointed executive director of design, body-on-frame architectures, in January of 2002. In this position, he was responsible for the three truck studios at the GM Design Center in Warren. Projects included the HUMMER H3 and the latest generation of full-size trucks that reached the market in 2006.

A native of Philadelphia, Welburn was born on December 14, 1950. He received a bachelor's degree in 1972 from the College of Fine Arts at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he studied sculpture and product design.

Today, Welburn is General Motors key executive to Howard University and serves on the board of governors at the Cranbrook Institute of Science and on the board of directors of the LeMay Museum.

Welburn has received honors and special recognition from Rainbow PUSH, African Americans on Wheels Magazine, and Black Enterprise magazine. In 2004, he was named the Howard University Alumni of the Year. In May 2008, he received the Man of Excellence Award from the Michigan Chronicle and made the list of The Ebony Power 150: The Most Influential Blacks in America as recognized by Ebony magazine. He also serves as the General Motors Chinese Affinity Group Leadership Liaison.

In January 2009, Welburn will receive the Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame, which recognizes an individual's significant contribution to the auto industry.

Popular?! Again - where? In NASCAR country/middle America? Whole different taste that unfortunately isn't up to world standard.

You almost never see these up East or the West. We look at that shit like :smh:

Frankly, GM cannot afford to design like this anymore. That's not a world class leading design. GM needs designs that the can cross sell to other markets - not just a regionally pleasing design.

You can't sell that car in Europe, Asia, or Middle East. They look at it and go :puke::puke: "It's too American" ... American in a bad taste - cowboy boots in the house, cheap beer, and dressing out of Sears catalog sense.

In their eyes, that cars looks like what this car looks like what a Russian made, 2010 Lada Priora looks like to us.

Lada_priora_01.jpg

Heist you be putting me onto cars (phaeton) an gun info (countless threads) I didn't know so big ups to you.... but that oversees babble shit you talking right now about Monte's not being clean an you would rather ride a LADA whatever the fuck that is  Go right ahead playa, I'm a keep riding my chevy's with the big rims an we'll all be good

You can't judge a car company by how the cars look. I love the new SRX. But if you check consumer review forums. The people that own them regret the decisions. I have seen only a few happy owners. edmunds.com jdpower.com intellichoice.com kipling.com

You are correct - but styling is what gets them "in the door" so to speak.

In car design, there are three levels of aesthetic and design emphasis time:

(1) That which a consumer can see and touch.

(2) That which a consumer can see but not touch

(3) That which a consumer can neither see nor touch.

You have to be very careful about the first two because they are the most impactful to a potential consumer who may know NOTHING about your car or brand.
