Canelo vs. Lara? Not likely...

"They offered Kirkland $900,000, and that wasn't good enough for him," DeCubas said. "We'll take $500,000 and they can put the other $400,000 in their pocket. How much easier can we make it on these guys? What's the point of being with a big promoter like Golden Boy if you can't get a big fight? It makes no sense."

:smh:

I agree that he should fight Lara instead of some no name that can't fight on a level to test that kid, but Lara can't sell half the tickets/PPV's that Kirkland can sell which is why you can't step in talking about half of what that dude was going to get.

I want Lara in that fight since they aren't going to get anybody that is dangerous with name rec...

Dollars and cents will always make more sense dude... Boxing is not what fans want anymore, that's why Manny and Floyd haven't fought yet, Chavez JUST stepped up to fight Martinez, Lopez and Gamboa fucked up a mega trilogy... damn shame....

From a business prospective I definitely understand avoiding Lara, who is a hard ass fight for anybody, but, at a point fans are going to wise up and see that their 'stars' are really manufactured through easy fights, smoke screen threats and avoidance... It would be a great fight, but it's not going to happen... and this 'he's not a big enough name' shit is ridiculous!! Dude was more than willing to fight Paul Williams, who even at the point before his injury was not a big name, and wasn't a draw AND lost to Lara to be honest, but now, Lara isn't being discussed...

Fucking disgusting... Golden Boy really needs to never talk shit about Arum again, because ultimately, he flows as Arum, Jr. on the humble... :smh:

The problem is casual fans move the sport and there aren't enough "experts" in the main sources of media for the sport to shape the casual fans' POV on who are real threats/good boxers... not just the guy who gets advertised as such by their promoters.

The Paul Williams/Lara shit and a lot of what pops off in boxing is heavily based on what casual fans want to see. Paul Williams has a name because he has fought on HBO a bunch of times, he was given ad time and they crafted gimmick for that guy. It never latched on to where Paul Williams became that dude, but enough of it worked to where people have an idea that he is somebody even if they never seen any of his fights. Lara, on the other hand, doesn't even have the "oh, I've heard about that guy" shit.

If you ever had this conversation with some who doesn't know boxing, but always throwing or at fight parties... You have to bring up Paul Williams and maybe re-educate them just to go into who the fuck Lara is while explaining how that dude was robbed.

I wouldn't go as far as Arum Jr. also, because Arum has protected his fighters from not just tough nobodies, but also cats with name recognition. When De La does that then I'm with you.

True and since the event is not looking to be a PPV then they (Golden Boy) should take advantage of the casual fan market and match Canelo with Lara.

Kirkland blew his chance by pricing himself out...however, he can contribute to the card by getting himself in a bout against Bundrage. That would make for a good doubleheader featured on HBO WCB.

Watch it be Canelo vs Bunrage :smh: I'll laugh my ass off if The the old man Cory Spinks him. I really don't like Canelos stamina
