People in Raleigh are hateful and selfish as hell. The rest of NC is mad friendly though. Especially Charlotte. That's one thing Raleigh doesn't have enough of, "southern hospitality." It's funny Durham is a city line accross from Raleigh and their worlds apart. Durham is very down home, friendly, corrupt,and baltimorish type town.

Nobody lives in eastern NC. Most of the population are in the middle of the state. Those blacks in the NE are mostly farmers and small business blue collar workers. Central Piedmont is where it all goes down. NC is the 10th largest state. Don't sleep!!


The characteristics of the people in Charlotte are more along the lines of ATL, Jacksonville, while Raleigh is kind of like Richmond/DC. There in the same state, but are very different. Job opportunities are extremely high in both though.

Alot of these counties have small populations. I say the high concentration of blacks in those counties comes from slavery. Ive worked and traveled eastern north carolina for many year. Its a trip to go to a community and see whites and blacks with the same last name living across the street. My wife is from eastern north carolina and she can trace her mother side of the family to a plantation outside of new bern.

I do believe if we look at south carolina there would be an even greater concentration of blacks. Isnt that state like 45 percent black?

My dude ive been knowing about what happened to Chavis Heights, and I know about whats going on in that area. But if somebody is asking about some nice places in the area do you really think im going to point them towards Idlewood, Fox Fire and Kingwood? Hell no.
My folks stay in Wakefield Plantation, and that whole area (Durant Trails, Riverside which is a very diverse upper middle class neighborhood) is an ideal place to live. Quiet, clean, great schools and very safe.
But my apologies, I was a little to harsh to talk about South Raleigh like that.

It's all peace. I just don't commend anyone dismissing a whole quadrant of a city just because it's not the most affluent part of town. One thing you might not know is southeast Raleigh has quite a few mansions,golf coarses,etc on the outskirts, and most of old black money still resides in Southeast Raleigh. Wakefield is nice, but honestly I couldn't live in an ocean of crackas. Just give me the house!

Well Edgecombe county is home of Princeville and if you are up on your African American history it was the FIRST town in the United States incorporated by African Americans its is in pretty bad shape though because of the last Flood we had there in 99 pretty much wiped it out but the area itself is poor as hell. (Bad location its in like the 10 year flood plain) After the flood the NC government offered the landowners and citizens of the area money to relocate but they turned it down(good answer imho).

single upward bound women: Plentiful but you cant be picky and live here they are all COUNTRY as hell hertford county is KNOWN for its Redbones(and all around attractive females) mainly because of Native American mixes. i dont know if I would use upward bound to describe them. They are good southern girls though that will stick by their man if hes worth a damn. Mainly shoot for nurses(healthcare is a large concern in the area)

crime rate: Its definently on the rise especially because of people going to jail in this area(Cocaine trafficing is HUGE because Rocky Mount on i95 is the exact median between Miami and NY) They bring out gangs and infuse it into a very POOR destitute areas where positive Black role models do not exist. Gangs are a huge presence in our schools because other than sports no other groups exist for youung black males to be apart of not to mention afterschool BET. While everyone wants to ride like Jeezy or whatever Dirty South rapper is hot at the moment.

economics: Terrible but improving honestly health care, legal, real estate(not so much) and banking is about the only thing making people money in this area(legally). But commom sense tells you that these are definently the poor areas of the state.

education: Equally as poor mainly because of the use of Alternative Schools and instead of trying to motivate our young children they give them Case managers, and send them home or to In School Suspension where they never learn anything. BOYS have it worst as oppose to little girls who actually do real well in this area. ECU has special programs where the restriction for people from those counties can have an opportunity for college education. I use to regularly see school trips to our campus from those aforementioned counties.

recreation: If you like to fish EXCELLENT!!!! but for african americans from 20+ nothing really Rocky Mount, New Bern, Jacksonville(marine base)Wilson, Kinston and Greenville(college town no black scene hell if you dress Hip hop dont plan on getting in a club in Gville but its PRIME location if you holla at pink toes) are the club spots but ther are regularly shot up and pretty slim pickens on FINE Model girls. Id honestly say a Dime in Eastern North Carolina would probably translate to a 5 in ATL or DC. Pretty much everyone parties in Raleigh or VA Beach if the do not want to deal with the Local scene.

No large building and everything is pretty old in Eastern NC New Bern is by far the "prettiest city" mainly due to the tryon palace and it being the Original NC Capital. All of the other places outside of Greenville(its growing rapidly) are mainly in the woods and redeveloping.

CLT's poltricks is mad racist. I dare you to find any influential black presence in the uptown area. Everytime I asked a black person about what's poppin for us there, I always get the response of places further out.

I think most of you are reading this map wrong. I don't think majority of the black people in nc live in those areas. Most of them live in Charlotte & surrounding areas, Reliegh/Durham and Greensboro area. Those stats above just give percentages. So basically a town with 1000 people in it and 600 of them are black would make the population over 50%. Where Charlotte has over 200K black folks

If you love night life, Charlotte isn't the place to be. The nightlife there sucks. I lived there for 2 years. Seems like there would be some spots for black people to hang out there, but no. Those of you who compare Charlotte to ATL are trippin. ATL has something for you to do every night. Cool social spots etc. Only places in the south with similair nightlife like ATL are West Palm Beach, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Jacksonville doesn't have a good night life or any other city I can think of. If you are a party promoter or a social scene promoter you can make killer money in Charlotte or another other city I didn't mention in the south with a lot of people.

Charlotte is on some racial shit. That is a black and white city. The crazy thing is you have progressive black there. Now my home town of Charleston, SC is different. White people aren't on racial B.S. there, but the blacks are not up-to-par. Opportunities like hell are in Charleston, but black people mind-set is stuck. Some of the most friendly white people live there. In fact Charleston is the most hospitable city in America. Trust me you can tell if you go there. The crazy thing is Charleston is majority black because of charleston had the 2nd biggest port for slaves. What's crazy is old white and jewish cats who lived here most of their lives sound like black slaves. LOL We call it gullah and geechie. Shit is crazy to hear. I guess black people don't appreciate the historic value of the city. White people do. If you are dress appropiately(not thuggish), white people will welcome you there with open arms. Folks still have pumps in their yards for water. Let me give you an example on how black folks are treated in the area: When that big flood hit, folks were told that they had to apply for a loan to re-build homes that were insured. The Federal Government declared the area a disaster area. The monies for the state were disbursed and it was up to the state to distribute to the different counties that were affected. The local governments that were supposed to be handling the the disbursments to the respective families affected by the storm were telling the families that they had to apply for loans on that money and that they would have to pay the money back with interest. Lots of families went for it.

This is the type of mentality that you will be dealing with in NC. It will change your whole life if you're used to progressiveness. Raleigh is a joke. Full of white priviledged college kids. Every body's trying to work in RTP. Those white folks will have you sprung on some "I'm sho-iz glad yuz hi-ud me suh" shit.

Me myself personally, I dont think you can go wrong living in any of these 3 Metro areas The Triangle(Raleigh/Durham/Cary) or the Triad(Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point) Or the Charlotte Area!
I live in Greensboro and the other two metro areas are a HOUR drive away Right along I-85 Its Southern but attitudes go the full spectrum from up north to the deep south type of vibe! Plenty of Jobs in the METRO areas! Housing is affordable! I love it here School systems are OK but in the metro areas you have predominately Black High schools where if your child is easily influenced he can get side tracked! People are friendly and There is a lot of Sporting events and events always going on!

Where I'm from ain't too far from the Virginia border ...bout' eight minutes in Roanoke Rapids. Now mine ya I'm not exactly from Roanoke Rapids but that's the only place people seem to recognize. I'm actually from Jackson county, out there between Conway and Murfreesboro.
