Can someone explain the reasoning of this in North Carolina?

Why is the black population concentrated in the northeast corner of North Carolina.

How is it there...Especially in Hertford/Halifax and ect?

Im speaking in terms of:

single upward bound women

crime rate

economics

education

recreation

infrastructure (highways, buildings, and etc)

Yeah, I used to work with a sista from Halifax Conty and she was country (and dumb) as fuck, even though she was in "college"

She always said there was nothing to do up around that way (small towns) and I got the impression that most black folks there are poor and uneducated

I grew up in Raleigh most of my life so thats the only place I can really speak on. The area is growing very fast, and there are new neighborhoods popping up almost everywhere. If you plan on looking into moving to Raleigh, do not look in south Raleigh. North Raleigh is the place to be. I can provide more info when I get back from the library if you want...ill be damned if I log onto BGOL at a campus library

Charlotte ("Queen City") is the biggest city in NC (over 600,000 people in the city) and is a great place for young black professionals and it is still growing with a strong job market
There's also a pretty good nightlife there and sports teams (Panthers and Bobcats)

Raleigh ("Raleighwood") is smaller but is also a nice area (especially for IT work)
Lot's of colleges and universities in the area

The Triad (especially Greensboro - "The Boro") is OK, but boring most of the time
It's a good place if you have a family, but forget it if you're still single

If I were moving back to NC, I would go with Charlotte first and Raleigh second

I got family members who live in North Carolina....I Went to UNC Chapel Hill for Undergrad. If you are considering moving to N.C., you're best bet is to move to the Research Triangle Park area (Raleigh, Cary in between,Durham ) If not move to Greensboro or Charlotte.the only other areas that I know of would be Asheville, and further Northeastern coast. These areas are the most affluent in terms of education, and finding a decent job. I wouldn't go as far as saying that all women from those areas are slow but, that goes for every area of the Country as a whole. Hell, I live in the D.C. Northern Virginia area now and there are plenty of Bama ass women here; Alot of these biatches here pretend like they all so sedity and shyt and they Broke! with multiple kids and baby daddy drama
but, it's all about what you pick and your dicisions. Just be a good judge of character because, there are alot of nutty fucking fruit baskets looking to Juanita Jordan a ninja quickly and swiftly .

Well Edgecombe county is home of Princeville and if you are up on your African American history it was the FIRST town in the United States incorporated by African Americans its is in pretty bad shape though because of the last Flood we had there in 99 pretty much wiped it out but the area itself is poor as hell. (Bad location its in like the 10 year flood plain) After the flood the NC government offered the landowners and citizens of the area money to relocate but they turned it down(good answer imho).

Now Mind you I live in Pitt county(Greenville NC East Carolina University):

single upward bound women: Plentiful but you cant be picky and live here they are all COUNTRY as hell hertford county is KNOWN for its Redbones(and all around attractive females) mainly because of Native American mixes. i dont know if I would use upward bound to describe them. They are good southern girls though that will stick by their man if hes worth a damn. Mainly shoot for nurses(healthcare is a large concern in the area)

crime rate: Its definently on the rise especially because of people going to jail in this area(Cocaine trafficing is HUGE because Rocky Mount on i95 is the exact median between Miami and NY) They bring out gangs and infuse it into a very POOR destitute areas where positive Black role models do not exist. Gangs are a huge presence in our schools because other than sports no other groups exist for youung black males to be apart of not to mention afterschool BET. While everyone wants to ride like Jeezy or whatever Dirty South rapper is hot at the moment.

economics: Terrible but improving honestly health care, legal, real estate(not so much) and banking is about the only thing making people money in this area(legally). But commom sense tells you that these are definently the poor areas of the state.

education: Equally as poor mainly because of the use of Alternative Schools and instead of trying to motivate our young children they give them Case managers, and send them home or to In School Suspension where they never learn anything. BOYS have it worst as oppose to little girls who actually do real well in this area. ECU has special programs where the restriction for people from those counties can have an opportunity for college education. I use to regularly see school trips to our campus from those aforementioned counties.

recreation: If you like to fish EXCELLENT!!!! but for african americans from 20+ nothing really Rocky Mount, New Bern, Jacksonville(marine base)Wilson, Kinston and Greenville(college town no black scene hell if you dress Hip hop dont plan on getting in a club in Gville but its PRIME location if you holla at pink toes) are the club spots but ther are regularly shot up and pretty slim pickens on FINE Model girls. Id honestly say a Dime in Eastern North Carolina would probably translate to a 5 in ATL or DC. Pretty much everyone parties in Raleigh or VA Beach if the do not want to deal with the Local scene.

No large building and everything is pretty old in Eastern NC New Bern is by far the "prettiest city" mainly due to the tryon palace and it being the Original NC Capital. All of the other places outside of Greenville(its growing rapidly) are mainly in the woods and redeveloping.

PS: Supposedly Those counties have the highest STD rates also.......

It's funny that this thread is up because I grew up in Hertford County. For the most part, the NE NC is lacking behind in the times. Very country. It really haven't changed in the past twenty years (Thats why I had to go west!!!) People don't like change out there and there are NO jobs!!! White people figured out that you really can't make any money out there because it is so far away from everything! My family,right now, has to travel 25 miles each way just to go food shopping and etc!!! (Crazy right!) Every time I go home I realize why I left that place!

Mainly those counties were blacks were working in the Textile mills and the Tobacco farms and also lots of blacks migrated to and from the Norfolk shipping yards, and finally the western part of NC is MOUNTAINS Thats just not us!

The reason why blacks live in the magenta and dark brown areas is because of slavery. After slavery and the end of share cropping etc some people moved to cities which is why there are higher populations of blacks there in Charlotte and the Triangle, along with migrations for places like Charlotte. But the reasons blacks are in any large quantity in NC is due to slavery. Cotton farms is why there were so many textile mills. Most textile mills are in the process of moving to India/China or going out of business.

Man shut the fuck up. You're reason why the black part of town gets such a bad rep when most of the crime is in northeast Raleigh. Southeast Raleigh is the second fastest growing part of town. However there is a definate need for more quality growth, but it is still better than most simular large cities in the US.

If it need to be avoided so bad why are land grabbing crackas moving in everyday?

Oh yeah the Charlotte area is only a little larger than the Raleigh/Durham area. Don't let the pro teams and skycrapers fool you.

Side note: People in Raleigh think Charlotte cats are country as hell.

Nobody lives in eastern NC. Most of the population are in the middle of the state. Those blacks in the NE are mostly farmers and small business blue collar workers. Central Piedmont is where it all goes down. NC is the 10th largest state. Don't sleep!!


The characteristics of the people in Charlotte are more along the lines of ATL, Jacksonville, while Raleigh is kind of like Richmond/DC. There in the same state, but are very different. Job opportunities are extremely high in both though.

I was born in Edenton, NC but raised in Norfolk, and went to ECSU for a minute. The area is country as hell but has some of the nicest black people you'd ever want to meet. Most of the college students end up moving to Raleigh or Charlotte, and the blue collar cats commute to the 7 cities to work. Very low cost of living.

It's some good southern women in NE NC. A lot of them still have them old school southern values. The type you take home to mama.

Hertford and Gates County have some of the finest women in the area.

The county is catching hell now due to that Operation Tarnished Badge shit. Seems like every week a detective, police officer or sheriff is going down. Nothing to be proud of though. My county and city is fucked up. We've got a lot of crooked cops around here. My dude ive been knowing about what happened to Chavis Heights, and I know about whats going on in that area. But if somebody is asking about some nice places in the area do you really think im going to point them towards Idlewood, Fox Fire and Kingwood? Hell no.
My folks stay in Wakefield Plantation, and that whole area (Durant Trails, Riverside which is a very diverse upper middle class neighborhood) is an ideal place to live. Quiet, clean, great schools and very safe.
But my apologies, I was a little to harsh to talk about South Raleigh like that.
