rice comes out bland....all stuck together and shit...

please give me some pointers on just how to cook some decent rice..

Not a female, but I'm great in the kitchen like Corning Cookware.

Blandness - Try using a mix or water AND stock or broth

Stuck together - You're cooking it too long/put too much water in,

I actually put butter in the pot, melt it and then add the rice and whatever seasons (like salt, pepper, garlic powder, whatever) and let that saute for a lil bit (maybe 3 mins) on med heat. Use between 2 times and 3 times the water for the rice (depends on your stove). Cover with the lid and don't open.

Oh and WASH the rice before you cook it.

If you don't want to worry about it too much get a rice cooker. I got one from Black and Decker that automatically cuts off when the rice is done, just measure out the rice and the water and turn it on; cooks quick.


The salt thing works with pasta sticking to the pot too.




Also look into different types of rice. I noticed that sometimes the cheap rice don't cook too well sometimes get kernel consistency. I usually stick with Kakuo Rose, (Did I spell that right?). Comes out great every time, gooey and sticky.

I've used regular pots, non-stick pots, metal pots, ceramic pots, used rice cookers galore, white rice, brown rice, parboiled rice, basmati rice - you name it, I've fucked it up :lol:

but i seriously needs times..and shit tell me a decent pot to buy...this is some lifelong shit and i needs to get my rice game together....

and like a just a little salt and pepper??
and HOW LONG do you cook it for..?? i got the part about letting it steam at the end....

You want a good pot with a HEAVY lid. Non-stick of course. Not something super expensive.

If you use stock or broth, that'll flavor it, so no need for salt.

Rice is generally 20 mins, but you want to stir it at 10. Don't keep taking the top off.

I don't know about you LD but over here a good pot with a tight lid is more expensive than your most expensive American rice cooker (I say that cause the Asian grocer got some foreign rice pots for like 120$). My family hate rice so I never had the pleasure of cooking it faithfully until a couple of years ago and it's not that hard.


Wait, now that I think about it we do use this pot for cooking rice on the stove but it's not the kind of pot you put on the stove. It was suppose to be a shabu shabu pot but it is a good one with a tight lid. And not that expensive but the normal shopper would have to go way out the way to get it.


I can't find a correct picture of it but it looks like this minus the heat part at the bottom

ConcĂłn is usually a treat at the end of the meal. Some people fight for it :lol: you hear the * Scrape Scrape Scrape* and everyone wants a piece......you can eat it by itself or drown it in some beans. And it's even more tasty if it's yellow rice or moro (rice with beans). Think rice brittle :dunno:

The picture was the only one I could find in a quick search. But it's not Cajun :lol: (it's just white rice), or a cake (they just dumped the pot on a plate) and it's normally not served like that.....we usually scrape it right out the pot it was cooked in and eat it. :D

Also we normally cook our rice in a cast iron pot, heavy bottom, because it distributes the heat better and makes the best concĂłn.

Water is exactly double the rice ,cup of rice 2 cps water.Bring water to boil the add rice & simmer.

Wait wait wait.

Wash your rice.

2 liquid parts of water to 1 part rice by baking measurements cups not liquid.

Boil the water, add rice return to boil. Cover and set to simmer.

The timing is the only thing. For a cup and up give it at least 20 minutes. Tinker with your time a bit to fit your needs.

Easy.

you see i had to rush that shit outside..and my crib is still smellin like burnt popcorn.....:smh:

The most surefire way to make perfect rice..

is bring 1 and 2/3rds cup of water to a boil add a dash of olive oil and some salt. Once boiling add one cup of long grain or pearl rice. Immediately cover with a tight fitting lid and turn heat to very low. Keep covered for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and leave covered for 5 minutes. Open the pot and there you go! Perfect white rice.

looks like your heat was waaaay too high and you didnt have enough liquid

you know they make boil-in-a-bag rice...all u have to do is drop the bag of rice in a boiling pot of water for 10minutes

maybe u should try that
