Could we break a brand and get some respect?

first identify a mid-level size company with a highly recognizable brand. the key is going after a popular brand because once you get mometum the recognizable brand will help spread the word.

once brand has been identified, create a slogan "boycott XXX, just because we can - the power of unity"

start spreading the word...

dont set any specific date for the boycott because those things are ineffective. just let the word spread and thecompany will come to its knees.

pick something like orange juice, pop corn, breakfast cearal, a chocolate bar... M&Ms / sunny delight / orval redenbacker / corn flakes / milky ways, herseys kisses .

if we can put a dent in a popular brand.... everyother company would be on notice to get right or be next.

no revolution starting fool... just thinking outloud...

but since you mentioned it... where does one plan a revolution? pray tell...

Not on BGOL. But jokes aside i understand where you are coming from but blacks are just not well organzied. We rather give our money to the white man to fit into the restraints of the media instead of supporting brands that are started by our own people. just the way things go

this reminds me of that "blackout" crap y'all tried on november 2nd...meanwhile niggas was spending mad loot on movie tickets and popcorn cause American Gangster had just dropped that day.... anyway, much success to ya

i agree it ishard to organize any large group of people... but the key is not to organize... we use the builtin sheeple attitude that may of us already possess and harness it for good.

if the brand is not something that is essential stapple then giving it up to be appart of the masses would be palletable.

the key is to itentify a brand people wont mind giving up and comming up with a catchy slogan.

This wouldn't work. People arent going to just go after some random company. I think you would be much better off picking a company that has a history of racism or something like that. You would get more followers that way.

think outside the box... not like sheeple

this not not a boycott in the general sence... it is a political statement... a collective campaign to eliminate a brand.

going after a random company "just because we can" will be mean spirited... but it will get attention. attention will then generate dialogue.. dialogue will then spread the message: black folk will and can hit ANY company in the pocket unless the recognize our contribution and be mindful of our concers.

going after a company because of there racist practices is old news and will never work because we as black folk can never agree on anything. attaching any movement to a particular racist act of a company is doomed to failure because it comes across as defeatist. we have to be agressors and proactive and not victims for this to work. no

but what we can do is pick a random high-profile brand and bring it down for rhym or reason to show the power of our dollar. if executed all other companies take notice... it not no one looses and we save face.

its radical but will work... think like this... when in battle: if you beat the strong person all other oppnents become weary of engaging.

we need to do shit "just because we can"

So what makes you think that this would work all of the sudden? In anycase I wish you goodluck on your attempt to "break a brand".

First you have to do the homework, and find what level of numbers will be able to make a significant sales decrease for a manufacturer or a distributer to even take notice.

For example, the gas blackout, it would have taken so many millions of americans not to purchase gas for oil companies to take note, and moreover more than one day of boycotting would be needed for them to feel a significant impact in their bank accounts.

The question is do african-americans have the discipline and resolve of that the generation that endured police dogs, jailings, hoses, and the threat of death that brought a nation to its knees and, made the world take notice?

its got to be something we can give up...

like kleanex / koolaid / 7up / doritoz / gillett

something recognizable but not too large... with a comparabe replacement product

then we give it up cool turnkey forever... message sent
