During the second quarter of Carolina’s game against Washington, Newton scrambled on third down and gained a yard. Newton slid as defenders were approaching, and he was clipped in the helmet by Washington’s Trent Murphy:

In an incredible twist, not only did Newton not get a penalty call for being hit in the head, but he was the one who was penalized. The Panthers QB was called for unsportsmanlike conduct and penalized 15 yards, which pushed the Panthers out of field goal range and forced a punt.

In case you’re keeping score at home, the message sent is that flipping a ball at an opponent who hits you in the head is worse than hitting a sliding QB in the head. I’m not so sure that’s what the NFL really should be saying.

And now you know exactly why Newton has complained about the officials with comments like this.

The calls that go against Cam are truly amazing. If that's any other QB in the league, it's 15 yards in favor no question.

This is actually the "Big Ben Treatment" Cam is getting. Refs let both of them take hits with no fucks to give. It's just about how they are perceived as QBs because of their play. Nothing more, nothing less.

What needs to be addressed is these fucking taunting penalties. Just stop with the flags already. Stop trying to make the sport Disney.

I just hope Cam can be as durable as Ben is. Both will never receive the Manning/Brady treatment no matter how many Super Bowls or MVPs they win.

In the last 2 years Cam Newton has 1 roughing the passer call. Big Ben has more this year alone and has never gone 2 years with ONLY 1. Ben doesnt get the respect of Rodgers or Brady true, but black NFL players dont purposely tee off on him (save the Bungles) knowin theres no repercussions.

Subjective but I think Cam does more with less.

I'd like to see what Cam could do with a Marshawn Lynch, decent receivers and a Legion of Boom holding him up right. The amount of plays his receivers drop is ridiculous. On the money passes as well.

Cam has never benefitted from either, plus has the NFL's target on his back, and still got em to the dance.
