Cam Newton takes in Kobe-LeBron and more in Los Angeles
There’s no doubt the NFL’s Most Valuable Player is enjoying his offseason.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton spent last night courtside at the Cavaliers-Lakers game to see the final showdown between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
Wearing a large hat popularized by the singer/rapper Pharrell Williams, Newton shared a moment with Bryant during the game and with James after the game.
The Cavaliers, by the way, won the game 120-108, dropping Bryant’s Lakers to 14-52 in his 20th and final season. Seated beside Newton for the game was James’ business manager Maverick Carter.
Why is Newton in Los Angeles? He’s filming his Nickelodeon show “All In,” which is a kids’ TV show helping children reach their dreams.
Newton posted an Instagram with basketball legend Lisa Leslie, a three-time WNBA MVP with the Los Angeles Sparks, teaching a show participant how to shoot a basketball.
And at halftime of the game, Newton met millionaire (billionaire?) NBA superfan Jimmy Goldstein.
We’ve all seen Goldstein sitting beside or near Jack Nicholson at Lakers games for years, and I spent more time this morning reading up on Goldstein than I’d like to admit.
Goldstein won’t reveal his age to interviewers, though he’s probably in his 70s. He also won’t say how he’s made his fortune, though it’s probably through real estate investments.
And he has one of the coolest homes in the country — the Sheats-Goldstein Residence — which you’ll recognize if you’re a fan of “The Big Lebowski” and remember Jackie Treehorn’s pad.
Anyway, Newton and Goldstein appeared to exchange some kind of information, and I’m imagining it had to do with high-fashion designers. Goldstein wears a lot of Galliano and Versace, and we know Newton loves his Versace.
