Calvin Johnsons retires......

What is the case for him making the HOF? I am not saying he won't make it... but he is not a lock.

Oh. He's definitely not getting in 1st ballot.. he's not a lock because the WR position is tricky. I think he'll definitely get in, though because he was dominant while he played... but his overall numbers are going to suffer because he's leaving the game 3-4 years early, at least (he's probably leaving 6,000 yards + 40 TDs on the table...and because he's a big WR he could play even longer than that as a goal line threat.

Get off the crack. 6-time Pro Bowler & 3-time First-Team All-Pro

Calvin was top 10 in receiving yards damn near every season of his career.. 4 out of 9 seasons he's was top 5 and two seasons he was #1 . #2 all time in receiving yards per game.

I am not saying he won't be a in the HOF but he is not a lock. A lock is first ballot. If it took Marvin Harrison a few years, and now for TO a few years and they have superior numbers... it will likely take him a few years.

Atorney/Government Contractor.

What's his HOF case for those who doubt me? His talent was second to none. His numbers unfortunately do not put him ahead of other receivers who have not made it into the HOF.

Oh ok so you're not on the pro football hall of fame committee? Then shut the fuck up.

I only addressed the dominant number thing in that post (just the thing I specifically highlighted).

Neither has superior per/game numbers... just overall numbers.. but I agree.. the threshold for WRs is really high

Good for you Mr.Johnson! It's been a pleasure watching you play. There is alot of life to live and experience outside of football.

I will ignore the insult.

There are plenty of receivers out there with great stats... better than Calvin Johnson... who have not made it. Torry Holt, Terrell Owens and let's say Issac Bruce. There are other players who will soon be eligible as well like Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne who have better numbers than Calvin Johnson, who also will not be locks. The only first ballot receiver will likely be Randy Moss.

It will take him a few years on the ballot to make it.

T.O. got fucked over. Calvin Johnson was more dominant than everyone else you mentioned and it's not even close (besides Moss). It's not just about cumulative stats. It's about the impact on the game. That's where Johnson is going to get in where those other guys will wait for a long time if ever.

This probably gets him in. He was clearly the #1 WR during his time as a player. He was dominant. He won't have the overall numbers because he retired so young but he was dominant during the 9 years... even his 1250 receiving yards the most ever for a player who retired that season.

"Since Johnson was drafted by the Lions with the second overall pick in the 2007NFL Draft, no player has more receiving yards, receiving touchdowns or 100-yard games (46) than Johnson.

Among those who have played in 100 career games in NFL history, no player has averaged more receiving yards per game than Johnson. Johnson’s average of 86.1 receiving yards per game is 8.7 yards better than the next-closest player on that list (Holt).

Johnson’s combination of size and speed made him one of the most unique wide receivers in the game. “Megatron” was listed at 6-foot-5 and 237 pounds. Since 2007, only six wide receivers at least as tall and as heavy as Johnson caught a pass in the NFL. Johnson had 731 receptions and the other five combined for 200.

Johnson ran a 4.35 40-yard dash at the 2007 NFL combine. He's the only player 6-foot-5 or taller, regardless of position, to run a 40-yard dash in under 4.40 seconds at the combine since 2006."

Unbelievable. I wonder is it the wear and tear or simply playing in Detroit.

No need for him to play for a treadmill franchise and risk getting permanent or prolonged injuries.
i would assume you take these risks after a certain age if you're playing on a team with championship potential.

He more thank likely has made enough money to last him a lifetime.

Salute to Megatron.

Reminiscent of Barry Sanders' exit, obviously. Freak of nature. Will be missed.

Detroit :smh:

What's really fucked up about TO is he wasn't even allowed to keep playing when he still could

His number could really be even more impressive

Rice played into his 40s TO could have as well

Yep. TO had 3-4 more years in him as at least a WR2. He got fucked over :smh: He probably left about 4,000 yards on the table

Respect, but that sure is a TON of money to walk away from. Generationally not the best idea to give up all that wealth transfer

As a Lions fan I' am glad he retired a Lion. He has a heart of a Lion and he represented the city and the team very well.

Kew he's a good dude off the field. The ownership are great people as well. A goodfriend married into the family.

Many a bgoler parent or Grand parent has worked for the ownership. This global brand that helped create the first legit Black Middle Class should get respect but e hate and ignoring anyone who doesn't share your e hate and your pov is popular round these parts.
