Carol ironically sings "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" but her car has many issues.

Whatever they put out..he owned it..
Didn't realize how often this song has been done
I hope the writer got paid
It was originally recorded in the 60's..... we know the writer(s) didn't get paid, especially residuals/ publishing
I didn't know there was another version. I thought Isaac's version was the original
If you listen to his rap he mentioned the person who wrote it.
That is actually a tribute to what Issac Hayes's rendition was, to that song. Glen Campbell wrote the song but sang the song without emotion.
To the tune of "South Bronx" by BDP, brothers: "Jimmy Webb was making it, Glenn Campbell was taking it, but Isaac Hayes was killing it for R&B!"

The writer is a Country & Western guy named Jimmy Webb. He's still alive and he's still getting paid off the song. Glenn Campbell was the first to record it. Glenn was a master guitarist and was featured in a bunch of Pop and Rock hits in the 1960s before grabbing "...Phoenix" for his debut.

I'm going to repost the writer, Jimmy Webb doing his own song, this time in the 1970s:

Johnny Carson had a little extra time at the end of the show and let the great band play it out. The did "By the Time I Get to Phoenix"
