Physicists spend a lot of time thinking about impossible things, since probing the constantly shifting bounds between the possible and impossible is one of the best ways to discover unexpected phenomena and new laws of nature. And for nonscientists, exploring this extraordinary realm is one of the best introductions to the immensely rich subject of physics.

Consider these questions:

Can machines produce limitless energy?
Is time travel possible?
Can anything travel faster than light?
Is it possible to escape from a black hole?

Each is a puzzle that requires pieces from different parts of physics to solve. And after investigating these and other questions, you begin to see how all of physics is tied together in a system that is consistent, logical, beautiful, and often very surprising.

For example, the question about whether time travel is possible leads you to a study of the nature of time and space. The paradoxes you encounter there are directly related to Einstein’s concepts of space-time and the constancy of the speed of light from his theory of relativity. This, in turn, takes you to exotic ideas such as black holes and wormholes, which some theorists believe may be potential shortcuts through space-time.

Before you know it, a staple subject of science fiction—time travel—has taken you through many layers of investigation to reveal profound truths about the universe.

Impossible: Physics beyond the Edge uses this ingenious approach in 24 delightful half-hour lectures that will entertain and nourish your mind, while teaching you more physics than you ever imagined. Your guide into the realms of the impossible is veteran Great Courses Professor Benjamin Schumacher of Kenyon College, a pioneering theorist in quantum information, which is a field dealing with things once deemed impossible.

Is It Possible?

Designed for those with no previous knowledge of physics, Impossible: Physics beyond the Edge will also appeal to the spirit of whimsy and adventure in those already well grounded in the subject. The course is illustrated with hundreds of diagrams, 3-D animations, and images to convey fundamental ideas at the core of physics—all in pursuit of the answer to the question, “Is it possible?”

Thanks to today’s science-fiction-rich media, people are more inclined than ever to think that the fanciful is real, that imaginary creations such as perpetual motion machines and warp-drive space engines are feasible technologies. Impossible: Physics beyond the Edge serves as an enlightening corrective to this outlook.

On the other hand, modern physics is full of real phenomena that are so counterintuitive that they seem like science fiction. Here are a few that you encounter in this course:

Near-absolute zero: Reaching the coldest possible temperature—absolute zero at -273.15º C—is probably impossible. But as some substances approach this limit, electrical resistance and viscosity drop to zero, and a strange new form of matter emerges.
Time dilation: According to Einstein’s special theory of relativity, a clock in motion keeps time more slowly than one at rest—from the point of view of an observer at rest. However, an observer accompanying the moving clock notices no time slowdown at all.
Quantum tunneling: In the quantum world, particles can do the equivalent of walking through walls—appearing on the other side of an apparently impassable energy barrier. The effect has many uses, including the scanning tunneling microscope, which can “see” atoms.
Entanglement: In the strangest of all quantum effects, a pair of particles acts together as a system; if something happens to one particle, the other responds instantly, even if it is millions of miles away. It seems like a violation of faster-than-light communication, but it isn’t.

From Thermodynamics to Information Theory

Professor Schumacher begins the course by investigating three ways that scientists interpret the impossible and how these approaches inspired important breakthroughs by Euclid, Isaac Newton, and James Clerk Maxwell. Historically, some inventions and discoveries were called impossible shortly before they were actually achieved, and you learn how there is a danger of being like the eminent scientist Simon Newcomb, who in 1903 declared that humans would never fly, just a few weeks before the Wright brothers took off over Kitty Hawk.

The opposite risk is chasing a dream that the laws of physics won’t allow. The most notorious example is a device that produces limitless energy—a perpetual motion machine. Professor Schumacher’s discussion of this long and fruitless quest leads you to one of the most important sets of ideas in physics: the three laws of thermodynamics, which were developed in the 19th century in concert with the technological innovations of the industrial revolution.

From here, you survey the advancing frontier of physics, as startling new theories changed our perception of what’s possible and what’s not, including such revolutions as these:

Relativity and quantum theory: Starting in the early 20th century, these two groundbreaking theories have done more than anything else to remap the border between the possible and impossible.
Chaos theory: The discovery that the future is hostage to unpredictable, chaotic fluctuations in present conditions destroyed the dream that the future can ever be forecast with any certainty or precision.
Noether’s theorem: In the early 20th century, mathematician Emmy Noether made the remarkable discovery that the great laws of physics, such as the conservation of energy, result from symmetrical features of space and time.
Information theory: Information is a powerful idea in physics and at the heart of many impossible phenomena, such as the impossibility of anything traveling faster than light—in which “anything” means “information.”

You will also see how the square-cube law in mathematics was used as long ago as the 17th century to conclusively dismiss an idea that still won’t die: that gigantic insects and other larger-than-life creatures are plausible life forms.

Impossibility as a Tool of Understanding

By the end of the course, you will have probed the nature of the impossible from many points of view and in many branches of physics—discovering that racing a light beam, hovering over a black hole, chasing quantum particles, trying to reverse the flow of time, and other astounding adventures make an excellent education in the fundamental laws of nature. These laws work together to create the sometimes perplexing, frequently surprising, and always wonderful world in which we live. As Professor Schumacher says, “If our goal is understanding, then there is nothing more practical than the impossible.”

Stanislav Grof & Christina Grof – Holotropic Breathwork

Holotropic Breathwork is a practice that uses breathing and other elements to allow access to non-ordinary states for the purpose of self-exploration. It was developed by Stanislav Grof, M.D., Ph.D. and Christina Grof, Ph.D. . Holotropic breathing has some similarities to rebirthing-breathwork, but was developed independently. Holotropic Breathwork is intended as an approach to self-exploration and healing that integrates insights from modern consciousness research, anthropology, various depth psychologies, transpersonal psychology, Eastern spiritual practices, and mystical traditions of the world. The term holotropic means “moving toward wholeness” (from the Greek holos “whole” and trepein “to turn or direct towards a thing”).

What can be achieved with Holotropic Breathwork:
– Release of stress, tension and psychosomatic blockades;
– Integration of unfinished elements of ones life history, birth, and transpersonal experiences;
– Getting awareness about own mental “programs”;
– Release from addiction and dependency;
– Processing psychedelic experience;
– Improvement of self-acceptance;
– Increase of joy of living and creativity;
– Facilitation of trust into the universe and of mental / spiritual growth;
– Deeper human encounter, understanding and communication.

Bitcoin 101 -The Ultimate Guide to Bitcoin for Beginners by Andrew J. Mason

Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that enables instant payments to anyone, anywhere in the world. Unlike traditional currencies like US Dollars or Euros, bitcoins are not physically minted or printed. Instead they are produced digitally around the world using software that solves mathematical problems (a process that is called ‘mining’). Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency to begin trading.

Bitcoin is an open-source technology, meaning the source code of its software is available openly for anyone to see. Bitcoin continues to be developed collaboratively and in public. As a distributed network, Bitcoin does not rely on a central authority to manage transactions or to issue new currency. Bitcoins are directly passed between sender and receiver without the need for an intermediary, such as a bank or financial institution.

Bitcoin provides a way for one Internet user to transfer a digital asset (currency) to another Internet user, that is guaranteed to be safe and secure, publicly documented without personal information, and without risk of fraud. Bitcoin challenges the commonly held notion that currency must be controlled by a central government or authority and that all transactions must pass through an intermediary of some kind. There are many risks and potential flaws associated with buying or using bitcoin, but the idea of creating a new currency outside of the control of a third party could present enormous opportunities.

Induce sexual arousal in women using REAL psychological influence principles that “dating coaches” and “seduction experts” have no idea even exist!
A word from Gun:

No I can’t say my course and instruction will solve ALL your problems with women forever, but what is it worth if it only solves 95% of them? How much better with women will you be for the rest of your life?

What is it worth if having this material gets you only a few hot chicks in your bed for some good sex?

What is it worth to never again blow hundreds of dollars on “dates” that go nowhere because you do not understand how to attract the woman to you in the first place?

If I had gotten information like this 10 years ago I would have taken control of my sex life and saved myself months at a time dry spells and frustration trying to figure out pick up.

I couldn’t do this of course, because I hadn’t even written “Gunwitch method” yet, much less figured out all the stuff in Way of Gun.

Yeah I want your buck, you know that, you are smart (or lucky) enough to have navigated your way through the overhyped pc bullshit methods that don’t work, and ended up here.

Marketing aside though I genuine do wish I had this material 10 years ago, and once you have it you will be glad you do too.

Clayton Makepeace – The Makepeace Method for Making a Fortune Writing Video Sales Letters

I’ve developed my own method for snowballing your income with the use of VSLs

It’s called The Makepeace Method for Making a Fortune Writing Video Sales Letters. I call it The Makepeace Method for short.

But this program is more than just a “how-to” about how to write a wildly successful VSL script.
I’m also going to show you everything that goes along with it — knowledge that can make you an expert on VSLs and Internet marketing. That places you light-years ahead of most copywriters.

Now, I don’t want you to be intimidated. I know you may think that VSLs are very hard to do.

Nonsense.

My system is so easy to follow a child could do it.

And in it are the secrets to how I became one of the highest-paid copywriters.
So let me give you a look at what you’ll get
when you join The Makepeace Method:

You’ll get the core of my system in 8 Sessions you can watch on video or listen to on audio, complete with printouts — teaching you the “heart and soul” of the system I’ve developed that consistently produces multimillion-dollar VSLs.

Just so you understand, you won’t find my system anywhere else. This is the result of all my years of writing and marketing, trial and error, and testing and testing and testing.

Frankly, it would take most people years to put together anything like what I have. And even if they took the trouble … they probably wouldn’t have the variety of experience I’ve had, and be able to reveal all the tricks and techniques I do.

Once you’re armed with this system, you’re in a position to not only teach clients things they need to know, but you’ll also be ahead of thousands of copywriters who would like to do this but won’t know anywhere NEAR what you know.

Personally, I know of only one group of marketers producing VSLs on this level — and they’re NOT teaching anyone.

But my philosophy is a little different — I think if there were some more people who could do this, it would be good for all of us.

So I’ve carved out the time to create this program and try to get some of you up to where you could help some of the companies I work with, or better yet — help ME with a client who’s got a need greater than I can supply!

TTC – Stress and Your Body

TTC – Stress and Your Body

Feeling stressed? You’re not alone. Stress is an inherent aspect of life in the 21st-century world. Regardless of the cause, stress is bound to affect you at some point during your day or week. And stress can have tremendous negative effects on your mental and physical health. Most Western diseases that slowly get us sick—heart disease, diabetes, stroke—are worsened by stress. Chronic illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis and depression often flare up during repeated instances of stress. This makes coping with stress a critical part of how well we live.
But take heart. Because once you understand the inner workings of our stress response system and its inextricable links to all aspects of your personal health, you’ll find yourself in possession of powerful knowledge that will help you understand and better deal with this common aspect of your busy life.

Now, from one of the world’s foremost researchers on stress and neurobiology comes Stress and Your Body—a fascinating 24-lecture course that guides you through the psychological and psychosocial stress that is a central part of everyday life in Western society. With the guidance of Dr. Robert Sapolsky, acclaimed Professor of Biology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery at Stanford University and one of our most popular professors, you’ll explore the nuts and bolts of the stress-response system and its various effects on your body.

What, Exactly, Is Stress?

Simply put, the stress-response system is a natural, highly adaptive survival system. Imagine you’re a zebra being chased by a lion across some grassy savannah. Once you’ve recognized the threat, your stress-response system will divert energy from storage sites throughout your body to your muscles and inhibit unessential processes like digestion and reproduction, allowing you to flee faster from danger.

For animals, of course, coping with stress isn’t a big deal; once they’ve escaped danger, their bodies and minds soon return to a balanced state. But for humans under chronic stress, there is rarely such a return.

Why? Because, for humans, the stress response is triggered not so much by life-or-death situations as by psychological reasons it wasn’t designed to combat, such as

traffic tie-ups that double the time it takes for you to get to work;
complicated home repairs you haven’t gotten around to making;
troublesome thoughts and recurring memories; and
worries about the economy, the environment, and international events.

In fact, as you quickly discover in this lecture series, the chronic stress that most of us face every day can turn the stress response from a safety mechanism into a real problem for our physical and mental well-being.

At the heart of any serious discussion of the impact of chronic stress on your body and mind lie some pointed questions:

How does everyday stress affect the way your brain behaves?
Why do some people adapt to stress more easily than others?
What occurs at the neurological level during periods of emotional trauma?
Why does stress not just impact your mind (where it’s rooted) but your body as well?
Why does stress prompt you to do certain things, like eat and sleep more (or less)?

The science behind these and other questions is captivating in its intricacies.

Explore the Biology of Stress …

With the same dynamic teaching skills that won him the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching—Stanford’s highest teaching honor—Professor Sapolsky guides you through the specific systems of your body in the search for the biological effects of stress. He first details how the stress response normally works for both humans and the hypothetical hunted zebra, then delves into what happens to these systems when the stress response doesn’t shut down.

Among the specific organ systems you explore in Stress and Your Body are these:

Cardiovascular system: When stress hits, your blood pressure and heart rate rise, and blood is diverted from nonessential areas (like your gut) to critical ones (such as your muscles). When activated chronically, however, the stress-response system can damage your heart muscles and blood vessels.
Digestive system: Chronic stress can wreak havoc with your digestive system and can even shut it down. This can lead to debilitating diseases and problems with your digestion.
Reproductive system: Not only is chronic stress directly related to problems with reproduction, it affects the reproductive systems of men and women in different ways. Sustained stress can decrease the likelihood of ovulation and increase erectile dysfunction. For both sexes, however, libido is often greatly impaired.
Immune system: Your immune system is designed to protect you from all sorts of pathogens. Unfortunately, when hit repeatedly with stress, your immune defenses are often impaired, resulting in more frequent, prolonged, or severe cases of diseases ranging from mononucleosis to the common cold.

This systems approach helps you better grasp the detailed science and biology behind stress. It also allows you to draw pointed comparisons with stress’s effects on individual systems of the body—sometimes separately, sometimes simultaneously. You’ll quickly discover that stress doesn’t affect just one part of the body, but it also has a domino effect in which your entire body can become damaged by the effects of chronic stress.

You’ll also get a chance to explore the physiological effects of stress on other parts of your health, including your

physical growth and development,
sleep cycle,
memory and judgment, and
pain threshold.

… and the Psychology of Stress

But the biology of stress is only one-half of the puzzle. Stress and Your Body also brings you up close and personal with the psychological underpinnings and effects of stress. There are powerful psychological factors that modulate how we respond to stress and that are instrumental in damaging not just our brains—but our psyches.

Among the psychological disorders and damaging behaviors that Professor Sapolsky explores are

depression, the genetics of which are indelibly linked to the genetics of one’s vulnerability to stress;
anxiety, which is rooted in the amygdala—a part of our brain that is extremely sensitive to one class of stress hormones; and
addiction, which can be directly related to increased levels of stress hormones in the body, whether it’s an addiction to drugs or to new sensations.

Additionally, an individual’s place in society plays a key role in both the creation and impact of stress. Toward the end of the course, you’ll spend some time studying the relationship between low socioeconomic status and high stress levels—along with the poor health to which they lead.

Discover the Key to Change

With Stress and Your Body, you’ll be learning about this integral—for better or worse—aspect of daily life from an engaging and insightful teacher. Professor Sapolsky knows just how important it is to understand the workings of stress, but he also flavors his lectures with humor and practical tips for stress management that you can incorporate into your lifestyle.

Professor Sapolsky’s unique teaching methods, in which profound insights, eye-opening concepts, and rigorous scientific support are intertwined with an informal delivery style, make the study of this topic absolutely illuminating.

“It’s possible for us to change,” he notes with characteristic enthusiasm at one point in Stress and Your Body. “It’s hard in terms of there being no free lunch. But nonetheless, change can occur.”

And the key to changing the impact of stress in your life, whether at work or at home, is a thorough knowledge of how and why it works on your mind and body. All of which you’ll find right here in these dynamic lectures.

Laz L – Forex Daily Trading System

Laz L – Forex Daily Trading System

The Daily Trading System is by far the most comprehensive forex course I’ve seen. He covers everything from setting up your charts to dozens of different trading strategies. Included with the system are the very templates that he uses himself to make money from the market. Follow along at your own pace. The strategies are well explained and easy to implement. On the weekends, when the markets aren’t moving, you can take time to try many of the strategies that he presents to derive your own trading style. A plethora of combinations are all right here in the Daily Trading System Forex Course.

Video 000: This Video is an overview of how our forex course will work for you.

Video 001: How To Download an MT4 trading station demo.
How To Open A Demo Or A Live Forex Account. (Live account not required for the course!)

Video 002: How to add indicators to your charts.

Video 003: How to add Expert Advisors to your trading station (MT4).

Video 004: In this Video I explain what the header menu is used for.

Video 008: How to use MT4 Templates and Create your own.

Video 009: Understanding how to use the Options section of your trading station.

Video 010: Understanding how to use the Broker Data.

Its not something that many of us tend to use. This section is ideally used for those who are creating Forex Robots that trade for them automatically.

Video 011: Understanding how to use different time frames.

Video 012: Understanding what Leverage is.

In this Video I go over the options of using Leverage. Trading too high of a Leverage is one of the #1 key’s of losing all your money!

Video 013: Understanding the basic concepts of Money and Risk Management.

Video 014: Understanding how to project your earnings.

Video 015: Understanding which times of the day to trade.

Video 016: Just a heads up to be cautious on Forex Forums.

Forex Forums are like walking on broken glass!

Video 017: Introduction to Module 2.
Now we have the basics down. Let’s start stepping it up a notch and show you how to apply indicators to the charts and how to locate buy and sell opportunities.

Video 018: Using the Accelerator Oscillator Indicator.
The Acceleration/Deceleration Technical Indicator (AC) measures acceleration and deceleration of the current driving force.

Video 019: Using the Accumulation Distribution Indicator.

Developed by Marc Chaikin, the Accumulation Distribution Line is a volume-based indicator designed to measure the cumulative flow of money into and out of a security.

Video 020: Using the Alligator Indicator.

Alligator Technical Indicator is a combination of Balance Lines (Moving Averages) that use fractal geometry and nonlinear dynamics.

Video 021: ADX – Average Movement Directional Movement Index.

The Average Directional Index (ADX), Minus Directional Indicator (-DI) and Plus Directional Indicator (+DI) represent a group of directional movement indicators that form a trading system developed by Welles Wilder.

Works extremely well in larger time frames. Also works well to work out when to close trades on lower time frames.

Watch the Video to understand its complexity, and how I have simplified its use.

Video 022: Awesome Oscillator

This indicator has probably got to be one the most difficult ones to use on its own.

However later on I will show you how to use it properly.

Video 023: Using the Bears Power and Bulls Power Indicator.
Bulls power and Bears power; the bulls and the bears struggle defines which way will the price move.

Video 024: Using the Bollinger Bands Indicator in Forex Trading.

Bollinger Bands are a technical trading tool created by John Bollinger in the early 1980s.
Great in combination with Candle formations.

Video 025: Using the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) Indicator.
The Commodity Channel Index (CCI) is a versatile indicator that can be used to identify a new trend or warn ofextreme conditions.

Video 026: Using the Demarker Indicator.

Video 027: Using the Envelopes Indicator.

Envelopes; there are quite a few ways to use the envelopes indicator, in this Video I show you one method how you can locate buy and sell opportunities and the techniques used to reduce the number of losing trades.

Video 028: Using the Fractals Indicator.
The Fractals indicator is a pretty good one to use. It depicts supply and demand levels, and is also handy to plot Elliott wave analysis onto your charts as well.

Video 029: Ichimoku Kinko Hyo

Video 030: Using the Moving Average Convergence Divergence Indicator.
MACD; Moving Average Convergence Divergence, its as the name sounds.
This indicator will allow you to find convergences and divergences in the markets.
Convergences when found you can expect the market to drop. And vice versa for any divergences found.

Video 031: The Momentum indicator is another indicator that you can use to find overbought and oversold levels, and you can use line studies for breakouts.

Video 032: Using the Money Flow Index (MFI) Indicator.
Money Flow Index; the money flow index is another overbought or oversold indicator.

Video 033: Moving Averages
The moving averages is a lagging indicator some people tend to use it to find which direction the trend is going in.

Video 034: Moving Average of Oscillator
Osma as it’s better known is similar to the moving average divergence convergence indicator.
In this Video I go over some some areas to spot those buy and sell signals and ways to reduce false signals

Video 035: Parabolic SAR
The parabolic SAR basically means “stop and reverse”. As the name sounds when the market goes up it stops and then it reverses.

Video 036: Relative Strength Index (RSI)
The relative strength index is also another overbought and oversold indicator and is commonly used by many traders.
The RSI is also able to show you divergences and convergences it is a very powerful indicator when used properly. :-)

*Results may not be typical for average user. (Required disclaimer)

Video 037: Stochastic Oscillator
Once more this is also a overbought and oversold indicator and is just as powerful as the RSI indicator.

Video 038: This Video discusses a few of the indicators that we haven’t discussed yet.

Video 039: Introduction to Module 3.
Now this Module not only reveals 39 strategies, 38 of which come with a templatethat you can apply to your chart(s).

Ok, I think you’ll like this one, we can take advantage of the lags!

Video 077: Strategy 37: Imacd & RSI Indicator.
Let’s have some fun with this one. The RSI can come in real handy with the I-Macd.

Video 078: Strategy 38: Imacd & Stochastic Indicator.
Stochastic is a little like the RSI, but faster and can give off early moves before it happens.

Now we’re going to trade naked, as its better known. No indicators at all.
Just Candlestick Patterns ONLY!

Video 081: Basic Candle Formations.

Video 082: These formations are only used as a confirmation of a continuation or a reversal and for that to happen they need to be formed in as a group of them together as aposed on their own.

Peter Guber – Tell to Win: Connect, Persuade, and Triumph with the Hidden Power of Story

A Great Audio Book With Superior Audio Quality For Business Development…Through Right Communication. Today everyone – whether they know it or not – is in the emotional transportation business. More and more, success is won by creating compelling stories that have the power to move partners, shareholders, customers, and employees to action. Simply put, if you can’t tell it, you can’t sell it. And this book tells you how to do both. Historically, stories have always been igniters of action, moving people to do things. But only recently has it become clear that purposeful stories – those created with a specific mission in mind – are absolutely essential in persuading others to support a vision, dream or cause. Peter Guber, whose executive and entrepreneurial accomplishments have made him a success in multiple industries, has long relied on purposeful story telling to motivate, win over, shape, engage and sell. Indeed, what began as knack for telling stories as an entertainment industry executive has, through years of perspiration and inspiration, evolved into a set of principles that anyone can use to achieve their goals.

In Tell to Win, Guber shows how to move beyond soulless Power Point slides, facts, and figures to create purposeful stories that can serve as powerful calls to action. Among his techniques:

* Capture your audience’s attention first, fast and foremost
* Motivate your listeners by demonstrating authenticity
* Build your tell around “what’s in it for them”
* Change passive listeners into active participants
* Use “state-of-the-heart” technology online and offline to make sure audience commitment remains strong

To validate the power of telling purposeful stories, Guber includes in this book a remarkably diverse number of “voices” – master tellers with whom he’s shared experiences. They include YouTube founder Chad Hurley, NBA champion Pat Riley, clothing designer Normal Kamali, “Mission to Mars” scientist Gentry Lee, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, former South African president Nelson Mandela, magician David Copperfield, film director Steven Spielberg, novelist Nora Roberts, rock legend Gene Simmons, and physician and author Deepak Chopra. After listening to this extraordinary mix of voices, you’ll know how to craft, deliver — and own – a story that is truly compelling, one capable of turning others into viral advocates for your goal.

Back in the dark ages when I started out on the internet there was one thing that always puzzled me: niches.
What were these mysterious things that could make or break you? What did you do with one anyway? And – most important of all – what was the correct pronunciation (I go for neeeeesh in memory of my high school French lessons!)
I was right to be worried. As it turned out, finding those profitable niches wasn’t that easy for a total newbie. Fast forward a good few years and I like to think I’m an expert…
I’ve found niches that have worked consistently well for me for months and years, bringing in a steady profit along with surges of income when they become a hot trend. I promote both physical and digital products within them as well as creating products too. And my steady 6 figure results speak for themselves.

In fact, that’s my real secret. Spotting niches that are not only evergreen (so you get that regular, recurrent income) but are also building and breaking out as ‘hot.’
A few nights ago I was half-asleep in front of the news on TV when a statistic made me sit bolt upright.
A record 40 million work days were lost to sickness and stress last year in the UK alone. Desperate employers are turning to what were once considered alternative methods to combat this crisis.

TTC Videos – Great Philosophical Debates: Free Will and Determinism

Do you make your own choices or have circumstances beyond your control already decided your destiny? For thousands of years, this very question has intrigued and perplexed philosophers, scientists, and everyone who thinks deliberately about how they choose to live and act. The answer to this age-old riddle is universally relevant to our lives. The implications of our views on it can affect everything from small choices we make every day to our perspective on criminal justice and capital punishment. From the Stoics to Boethius, from Kant to Hume, from Sartre to contemporary philosophers, great minds have puzzled over this debate for centuries.

Now you can learn the intriguing details of this fundamental philosophical question with Great Philosophical Debates: Free Will and Determinism, 24 fascinating lectures by Shaun Nichols, award-winning Professor of Philosophy and Cognitive Science at the University of Arizona.

What Is Free Will?

Professor Nichols begins his course with a discussion of the concept of free will. You discover the three kinds of questions that philosophers ask in their exploration of free will:

Descriptive questions: What is free will? What is required for us to be morally responsible?
Substantive questions: Do we have free will? Are we morally responsible?
Prescriptive questions: How do we change our actions in response to our knowledge of free will?

By explaining the fundamental approaches to this familiar debate, Professor Nichols thoroughly prepares you for an in-depth study of the complexities of free will and determinism. You discover what great thinkers through the ages believe about the choices we make and understand how we might deal with their implications.

From Plato to the Present

Professor Nichols then takes you on an investigation into the origins of the question itself. As with so many central philosophical issues in Western thought, the idea of free will and determinism began with the Greeks. In fact, the Greek philosopher Leucippus made the earliest-known statement of the view of determinism, proclaiming, “Nothing happens at random, but everything for a reason and by necessity.” Professor Nichols begins with a broad overview of the history of philosophical thought and exploration as it pertains to the question of free will and determinism.

Professor Nichols illustrates how the concept of fate was defined and treated by these groups:

Greeks: In Sophocles’ play Oedipus Rex, fate decrees that Oedipus is destined to kill his father and marry his mother. Although his parents leave him to die and Oedipus spends his life trying to escape his fate, in the end he does exactly as the Oracle predicted at his birth. The Greeks believed that, for the most important things in life, a particular fate awaits you.
Medieval theologians: St. Augustine, one of Christianity’s most important thinkers, upheld that God knows absolutely everything, including every action we take, every decision we make. Nonetheless, Augustine maintained, our choices are still free—God doesn’t force us into our decisions. The idea of salvation through God’s grace alone was elaborated on more than 1,000 years later by the Protestant theologian John Calvin.
Calvinists: Calvin promoted the doctrine of predestination, which he defined as “the eternal decree of God, by which He determined with Himself whatever He wished to happen with regard to every man. All are not created on equal terms, but some are preordained to eternal life, others to eternal damnation.”
Contemporary philosophers: Saul Smilansky, for example, believes that we do not have free will but that we must keep it a secret from the masses. If all people knew their behavior was determined, they would stop behaving morally, he believes.

Are We Morally Responsible for Our Actions?

The question of free will has overwhelming implications for our sense of moral responsibility. If free will makes us accountable for our choices, does the opposite hold true, that determinism absolves us of responsibility?

German philosopher Immanuel Kant argued that our moral responsibility stems entirely from our ability to do the right thing—to do our moral duty. Kant’s theory implies that if we can make the choice to do the right thing, we must have free will.

If we do not have free will, and our behavior is determined according to what came before—our environment, our genetics, our parents’ behavior—what does that mean for our society’s ideas of crime and punishment? Should we be held responsible for actions that were inevitable? How do we treat individuals who commit crimes if we believe their backgrounds led them to the crimes?

The debate continues as we gain increasing access to scientific evidence of brain activity related to moral choices. Professor Nichols’s discussion of the relationship between the actions and brain activity of criminals is particularly fascinating, which leads us into the examination of whether certain types of criminals, such as psychopaths, are morally responsible for their actions.

Modern Experiments in Philosophy

When we think of philosophy, what usually comes to mind are classical Greek philosophers, ancient mystics, or Enlightenment thinkers from Europe. Professor Nichols, himself a philosopher, introduces us to his peers at universities across the United States who are exploring free will in new ways.

Advances in science and technology enable us to discover actual empirical evidence about what happens in our brains when we make certain kinds of decisions, shedding light on the relationship between what we think of as free will and what’s really happening to our physical being.

One view in social psychology says we are unaware of many of the internal causes of our own behavior. On this view, much of what happens in the mind when we make decisions is hidden from us. You will enjoy exploring several experiments that support this view and question our notion of free will.

In one study, participants were asked to solve word puzzles that included words such as Florida, wrinkled, and gray—words commonly associated with elderly people. When these participants went to leave the building, they walked toward the elevator more slowly than others whose puzzles included neutral words.
In another experiment, a group was asked to imagine characteristics of a professor while another group was asked to think about soccer hooligans. Afterward, both groups were asked Trivial Pursuit questions; those who had envisioned a professor did much better than those who’d been thinking about thugs.
Neuroscientist Benjamin Libet explored the relationship between brain activity and decision making. He measured subjects’ brain activity using an EEG and their muscular activity using an EMG. He asked them to perform certain small actions, like flexing a finger, and asked them exactly when they decided to perform the action. He discovered that their brains registered activity before they said they had decided to perform the action.

While these experiments are open to interpretation, they seem to suggest we are rather susceptible to unconscious stimuli. Are the decisions we make truly free or subtly influenced by factors we don’t even recognize?

Join a Centuries-Old Discussion

Professor Nichols’s thorough research and in-depth looks at each side of every argument make Great Philosophical Debates: Free Will and Determinism a provocative and balanced exploration of this centuries-old discussion. In 2005, he received the Stanton Award, given annually to an innovative scholar working in philosophy and psychology. Professor Nichols, whose research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, also heads a research group at the University of Arizona investigating the psychological factors that influence our thinking about philosophy.

Mining the rich history of philosophy for possible answers, Great Philosophical Debates: Free Will and Determinism ultimately invites you to come to your own conclusions about whether or not we control our lives.

Passions: Philosophy and the Intelligence of Emotions

Philosophy-and-the-Intelligence-of-Emotions.jpeg

Passions: Philosophy and the Intelligence of Emotions

Fear, joy, grief, love, hate, pride, shame. We all have emotions, and we recognize emotions in others. But do we really understand what emotions are and what they signify? It is remarkable how often we are wrong about our own emotions and misread the emotions of others. We also deceive ourselves about their meaning. The more we puzzle over the nature of emotions, the deeper the mystery becomes. It is a mystery that is by no means solved, but one that repays careful, philosophical analysis.
Far from being routine, emotions are “the key to the meaning of life,” says distinguished philosopher and author Robert C. Solomon, who in these 24 lectures takes you on a tour of his more than three-decade-long intellectual struggle to reach an understanding of these complex phenomena. Some of his conclusions are surprising and very much against the current of common sense.

Professor Solomon’s lectures unfold as a rich dialogue with other philosophers, including Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics, Descartes, Adam Smith, Nietzsche, William James, Freud, Heidegger, and Sartre. He also relates these views to contemporary work in the cognitive sciences on emotions, notably research by Antonio Damasio, Joseph LeDoux, and Paul Ekman. And he discusses the portrayal of emotions in writers and artists including Homer, Shakespeare, Melville, Dostoevsky, and Picasso.

Emotions Have Intelligence

By probing the ideas of these and other thinkers and presenting his own views, Professor Solomon will lead you to a remarkable conclusion: Emotions have intelligence and provide personal strategies that are vitally important to our everyday lives of perceiving, evaluating, appraising, understanding, and acting in the world.

This idea runs counter to the widespread view that draws a sharp distinction between the emotional and the rational and views the emotions as inferior, disruptive, primitive, and even bestial forces. For Professor Solomon, many emotions are distinctively human and they are far more complicated than mere “feelings.” They are rational judgments—sophisticated strategies for survival.

In exploring the multifaceted nature of emotions you will address questions such as:

How do we distinguish emotions from feelings, such as heartache?
What is the meaning of our emotions, and how do they serve to enrich and guide our lives?
Is there a determinable number of basic emotions that serve as building blocks for the range of emotions we experience?
Is an emotion such as jealousy a genetic trait shared by all humans—or is it something learned?
The Japanese have an emotion named amae, but it seems unknown to Westerners. To what extent do language and culture determine emotional experience?
Are emotions subconscious products of the mind, or are they under conscious control?

Philosopher at Work

One of the fascinating features of this course is that you get to witness a philosopher wrestling with the ideas of his predecessors—accepting, rejecting, refining their contributions, and modifying some of his own earlier views—in a demonstration of the intellectual honesty required to make progress in tackling a profound philosophical problem. He also ranges beyond philosophy to draw insights from psychology, sociology, neurology, history, and literature.

A multi-award-winning teacher at The University of Texas at Austin, Professor Solomon has written or edited more than 45 books, including The Passions, Not Passion’s Slave, In Defense of Sentimentality, and About Love, as well as works on Existentialism, Nietzsche, Hegel, business ethics, and introductory philosophy.

In a review of Not Passion’s Slave, he was singled out for being “at the heart of a revival of philosophical interest in the emotions” by The Times Literary Supplement, which noted his “energetic and provocative contributions to the field.”

Professor Solomon had such a profound effect on one of his students at UT, the future film director Richard Linklater (best known for Before Sunrise and Before Sunset), that Linklater included a memorable extract of Professor Solomon lecturing on Existentialism in the acclaimed feature film Waking Life.

Professor Solomon has conducted three other highly popular Teaching Company courses: No Excuses: Existentialism and the Meaning of Life; Will to Power: The Philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche (with Kathleen Higgins); and Great Minds of the Western Intellectual Tradition (selected lectures).

Wondrous Troublemakers

“I want to invite you to look at your own emotions as if they are something wondrous, mysterious, and exotic, something you’ve always taken for granted—even when they’ve gotten you in trouble,” says Professor Solomon at the outset of this course, which he divides into three sections:

Passions, Love, and Violence: The Drama of the Emotions (Lectures 2–9). The course begins with eight lectures on specific emotions (anger, fear, love, compassion, pride, envy, vengeance, and grief) with insights into the complexity, importance, and roles emotions play in our lives.
Out of Touch with Our Feelings: Misunderstanding the Emotions (Lectures 10–17). These eight lectures examine how we misinterpret and fail to take responsibility for our emotions. For example, the innocent-sounding claim that emotions are feelings represents a fundamental misunderstanding of what emotions are about. Other misconceptions are the seemingly innocent assertion that emotions are “in the mind” and the idea that we are the victims or slaves of our passions.
How Our Passions Enrich Our Lives (Lectures 18–24). The concluding section takes a positive look at the richness and value of our emotions, probing what it is about them that make life worth living. Professor Solomon talks about laughter, music, and the roles that emotions play in different cultures.

Throughout the course, Professor Solomon returns again and again to his thesis that emotions have intelligence, an idea that has roots in Western philosophy tracing back to Aristotle. The notion of “emotional intelligence” gained notoriety through a 1990s bestseller by psychologist Daniel Goleman, but while Goleman and other popular writers on the subject primarily discuss learning how to control emotions, Professor Solomon digs deeper to reach the core of how emotions themselves contain intelligence—indeed many kinds of intelligence—and to explore the complex emotional repertoire that makes us uniquely human.

As you listen to these lectures, prepare to think: Think about your own emotions; think about what you observe in others; think about the enormous body of research and conjecture on this fascinating topic as Professor Solomon takes you on a challenging and stimulating journey.

“Emotions are our doing,” he says. “An emotion is not just a product of evolution, but a product of cultivation and, sometimes, personal choice. If you look at your emotions and say, ‘I will take responsibility for this because it is my doing,’ sometimes you will be wrong; but in general, you will suddenly find that you’ve taken ownership of your life in a way that you hadn’t before. And it seems to me that is a very important philosophical lesson.”

Will to Power: The Philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche

The-Philosophy-of-Friedrich-Nietzsche.jpeg

Will to Power: The Philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche

Among shapers of contemporary thought—including Darwin, Marx, and Freud—Friedrich Nietzsche is perhaps the most mysterious and least understood. His aphorisms are widely quoted, but as both man and thinker he remains an enigmatic figure, “philosophizing with a hammer” and hurling unsettling challenges to some of our most cherished beliefs.
Who was this eccentric German genius? This lonely and chronically ill, yet passionate, daring, and complex seeker?

Was he a proto-Nazi, or would he have found Hitler despicable?
Who was this man who caustically attacked the Christianity of his day but who wept openly when he saw a horse mistreated in the street?
Why are his brilliant insights so relevant for today?
How did he become the most misinterpreted and unfairly maligned intellectual figure of the last two centuries?

Professor Robert Solomon is the Quincy Lee Centennial Professor of Business and Philosophy at The University of Texas at Austin and a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

He has received several awards for excellence in teaching, including a Fulbright Lecture Award and a Standard Oil Outstanding Teaching Award.

In his precise yet conversational style he weaves biographical detail, abstract analysis, and humor, constructing an engaging, well-rounded portrait of the most enigmatic, complex figure in all of philosophy. He is joined in many lectures by his wife and fellow Nietzsche scholar, Professor Kathleen Higgins, also of The University of Texas at Austin.

A Lonely Genius’s Quest

Nietzsche’s body of work has been enormously influential, but it consists of a hodgepodge of reflections, accusations, bits of psychoanalysis, church and secular history, advice to the lovelorn, moral reminders, and some forgeries created by Nietzsche’s nefarious sister.

To provide shape to Nietzsche’s thought, each lecture focuses on specific ideas that preoccupied Nietzsche while tracing the profound themes that give meaning to his work.

Lectures 1 through 3 provide a context within which we can better understand Nietzsche’s life and work. These are essential and foundational introductions to him. Professors Solomon and Higgins:

Debunk the myths, rumors, and misunderstandings surrounding Nietzsche. (They show, for example, that he was not insane, misogynistic, power-mad, anti-Semitic, or amoral.)
Connect his thought to that of his predecessors Socrates, Plato, Jesus, and Schopenhauer and that of his near-contemporaries Kierkegaard, Dostoyevsky, Marx, and Freud.
Investigate how Nietzsche’s method of explaining human beliefs and practices in terms of personality and character (as opposed to justifying them through reason) enabled him to refute Socratic assumptions, English utilitarianism, Christian compassion, and Schopenhauer’s pessimism.

The Death of God and The Birth of Tragedy

Lectures 4 through 8 explore Nietzsche’s subtle and complex critique of both religious belief and Greek rationalism.

What did Nietzsche mean when he declared “God is dead”? We see that Nietzsche did not seek to condemn true spirituality but to question the mindset that insists on eternity, that is obsessed with unity and coherence, and that demands predictability and justice in a world that is neither predictable or just.
We examine Nietzsche’s near-worship of pre-Socratic Greek culture and his championing of instinct, passion, and aestheticism.
We study Nietzsche’s first work, The Birth of Tragedy (1872), famous for its brilliant analysis of the creative tension between the cults of rational Apollo and ecstatic Dionysus in pre-Socratic Greece.
We see how Nietzsche contrasts tragedy, which accepts suffering and makes something beautiful out of it, with Platonic, Socratic, and Christian thought, which he accuses of trying to deny the meaning of suffering by invoking a superior, otherworldly life.

Lectures 9 through 11 focus on Nietzsche’s famous style, which deftly combines the majesty of the prophet, the force of the Homeric warrior, and the lyricism of the poet, but which nonetheless is rife with fallacies, inconsistencies, exaggerations, and scathing personal attacks.

Harsh but Insightful Criticisms

In lectures 12 through 15, Professor Solomon takes a closer look at Nietzsche’s harsh but insightful criticisms of the intellectual currents of his time—Christian moralism, evolution, socialism, democracy, and nationalism. Here we meet Nietzsche the “moral psychologist,” who revolutionized our understanding of the “human, all too human” motives that underlie our beliefs.

Is Nietzsche correct that “every philosophy is a personal confession and an unconscious memoir”?
Are pity and laughter just forms of dominance and power?
How much of morality is, in fact, a scheme to bring down one’s superiors through guilt? How do repression, religion, and rationalization assist in this scheme?
How does Nietzsche criticize previous ideals of love?
Is Nietzsche a powerful anti-nihilist? Is he correct in rejecting the utilitarian’s moral guideline “the greatest good for the greatest number” as a nihilistic rejection of life? (He says: “Man does not live for pleasure; only the Englishman does.”)
How does Nietzsche’s “morality of virtue” contrast with Judeo-Christian morality? And how does he argue that 2,000 years of Christianity enriches and spiritualizes “healthy” morality?

In Lectures 16 through 20, Professor Solomon pulls back and attempts to summarize Nietzsche’s preoccupations. In a nod (and a wink) to our times, he compiles “top-ten lists” of both Nietzsche’s favorites and his favorite targets. You will be intrigued to see who makes both lists! Also in this section, we encounter Nietzsche the historicist and Nietzsche the “immoralist,” and discover the source of his vitriolic personal attacks.

The final four lectures examine Nietzsche’s highly unorthodox “genealogy” of morality, as well as his most enduring image, that of the Ubermensch (super-man or over-man), and the notion of the will to power and “the eternal recurrence.” Because these concepts have been misappropriated as rationalizations for monstrous behavior, they are usually misunderstood. You learn:

How the will to power explains our need for self-expression
How the Ubermensch is an expression of the innate human yearning for excellence
How Nietzsche characterizes the alternative to the Ubermensch—the “last man,” who can quickly be sketched as the “ultimate couch potato” and the final fruit of utilitarian philosophy.
The “eternal recurrence” is Nietzsche’s powerful, personal test. If you knew that you would live your life again and again for eternity, is it the life you would will? In short: do you in fact love your life? This is not a nihilist’s question. It is a powerful call to full awareness and action in life.

Nietzsche’s Love of Life

As you make your way through these lectures, you’ll discover that Nietzsche, even at his most polemical and offensive, exudes an unmistakable enthusiasm and love of life. In fact, you’ll see that his exhortation to learn to love and accept one’s own life, to make it better by becoming who one really is, forms the project that is the true core of his work.

Become Fluent in Any Language with GABRIEL WYNER

an easy system for learning a new language.

Speaking a foreign language gives you more sophisticated problem-solving skills, more tools for multitasking and expressing yourself, and opens up more career opportunities – not to mention the ability to more fully immerse yourself in other cultures. But learning a new language can be an unmanageably long endeavor. Join Gabriel Wyner to learn how you can become (and stay) fluent in a new language in months, not years.

Throughout this course, you’ll explore memorization tools, linguistic concepts, and free software that will ensure fluency in the shortest amount of time possible. You’ll learn about the four essential stages of language acquisition: understanding correct pronunciation, building vocabulary and grammar skills, reading and listening effectively, and conversing with native speakers. You’ll also learn about antiquated methods to avoid (such as translating between new and native languages) and cutting-edge new techniques that ensure maximum absorption and retention.

By the end of this course, you’ll have an easy system for learning, retaining, and expressing yourself in a new language as quickly as possible.

Gabriel Wyner

Gabriel Wyner is an author, opera singer, and polyglot based in Los Angeles, CA. After not getting anywhere in 5 years of high school language classes, he reached fluency in German in 14 weeks with the help of the immersive Middlebury Language Schools. As a result, he fell in love with the process of language learning, going on to spend two months in intensive Italian courses in Perugia, Italy. Searching for ways to bring the immersion experience into the home, he began to develop a system that rapidly builds fluency in short, daily sessions. In 2010, his efforts paid off. He learned French to fluency in 5 months, and then Russian in 10 months. Born in Los Angeles, Gabriel graduated summa cum laude in 2007 from the University of Southern California with dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Vocal Arts Performance, and was awarded the Renaissance Scholar’s prize for excellence in unrelated disciplines. He then moved to Vienna to pursue triple Master’s degrees at the Konservatorium Wien in Opera, Lieder, and Voice, and graduated with honors in 2011. Currently learning Hungarian, Gabe is looking forward to Japanese this fall. He recently funded a Kickstarter to develop a language learning app, about which Business Insider reported “This Could Be One Of The Best Language-Learning Apps We’ve Ever Seen.” His book on language learning – “Fluent Forever: How to learn a language fast and never forget it” – will be published on August 5, 2014 (Harmony Press/Random House).

Million Dollar Consultants require critical thinking skills. What are critical thinking skills? I believe they are finite, learnable, and must be integrated no less than a great athlete’s “natural” swing, and one of the most underestimated, misunderstood, and underutilized is what I call “Framing.”
In an honest-to-goodness case of responding to popular demand, a dozen people in my inner circle requested I devote a full day to the subject, in the wake of two very popular CDs I’ve recorded over the years.

This is the first (and probably last time in the US) occasion for such a program. You will learn:

– How to quickly determine whether you are facing an opportunity, problem, decision, or plan.

– How to quickly summarize and paraphrase a someone else’s narrative and convert and redirect it to meet your own objectives.

– How to increase your discretionary time and reduce labor intensity by a factor of 50% through rapid diagnosis of situations.

– How to move from cognitive insight to behavioral intervention rapidly and seamlessly.

– How to use “instant examples” and stories to capture attention and interest.

– How to organize the worst, most disorganized, embarrassing space you own—your thinking process.

– How to create and apply wisdom without losing it in knowledge (which itself can be lost in information).

– How to immediately set priority, ranging from diving in to running away.

We’ll use extensive practice on case studies and your own, actual situations; role plays in the “hot seat”; job aids that are created for your particular practice; and rapid-fire tests in a safe environment.

When you are able to frame well and quickly, you direct attention to the picture within. Right now, too many people are looking at the wall, and not your picture! Join us for an entertaining and lively 1.5 days, and you’ll leave with your cognitive world swept up and cleaned, and your ability to direct and persuade others representing a powerful new skill set.

All participants will receive the Framing CD and preparation work.

How can I promise so much? Because it’s all in your head!

(In the event a program does not run we refund all fees. If you must cancel, there are no refunds but you may apply the full amount as a credit against any future workshop without time limit.)

Calvin D. Banyan will teach you how to successfully perform these fast and efficient hypnotic inductions so that you can create deep levels of hypnosis in only a couple of minutes (Elman-Banyan Induction) or even in seconds!

You can be more effective using these inductions by creating the kind of levels of hypnosis the pros create in just two minutes using the modernized version of the Elman induction or even faster using these very fast rapid and instant inductions.

Imagine how much more effective your hypnosis sessions would be when you can create deep levels of hypnosis in a matter of seconds!

Here is what he covers in this live class, professionally captured on video:

Preparing Your Clients for Success by Using an Excellent Pre-Talk

Assessing Readiness for an Instant or Rapid Induction

The Modern Elman-Banyan Rapid Hypnotic Induction (Deep Hypnosis In Two Minutes!)

Banyan Blast-Off Induction (Deep Hypnosis in about 30 seconds!)

Eye-Lock Instant Induction (Deep Hypnosis in about 15 seconds!)

The Eight Word Hypnotic Induction (Deep Hypnosis In 4 Seconds!)

Instant Hypnosis by Post-Hypnotic Suggestion (Deep Hypnosis in 2 Seconds!)

Affect Induced Age Regression Inductions (Deep Hypnosis in 0 Seconds!!)

All Secrets Revealed - Nothing Held Back.

Here Is What You Get

As you watch this live class you can "sit in" and learn these secrets of using these fast, effective professional inductions. On this video program, Calvin Banyan explains how these really fast inductions work and how to use them. When you learn these inductions, you join the ranks of some of the best hypnotists and hypnotherapists.

Call them instant, rapid or speed inductions, one thing is for sure, these inductions really work. They get your clients to the depth of hypnosis that you need to achieve to be consistently successful. These very fast hypnotic inductions achieve deep hypnosis (somnambulism) and leave you with time to do the work of hypnotic suggestion, age regression, forgiveness therapy, parts therapy, or whatever your client needs.

On this course you will see Mr. Banyan demonstrate and explain each induction as well as demonstrate some of the phenomena that can be created using these inductions such as eye catalepsy, arm catalepsy, amnesia, analgesia and a brief example of hypnotic age regression.
Preparing Your Clients for Success by Using an Excellent Pre-Talk

Mr. Banyan starts this class off by explaining how a little bit of preparation can go a long way to improving your success, no matter what kind of hypnotic inductions you choose to use in your practice. He will explain the essential components of doing a really effective hypnosis pre-talk.
Assessing Readiness for Hypnosis

How do you know if your inductions are going to work? Wouldn't it be great if there was a very simple way to determine when your client is ready to go into hypnosis? There is, and Mr. Banyan will explain how to use this very simple technique that will make you more successful!
The Modern Elman-Banyan Rapid Hypnotic Induction (Deep Hypnosis In Two Minutes!)

In his best selling hypnotherapy book (coauthored with Gerald F. Kein), Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy: Basic to Advanced Techniques for the Professional, Mr. Banyan rewrites the famous Elman Rapid Hypnotic Induction. In this class on video, he updates it further and takes time to tell you how to make this time tested hypnotic induction more reliable. If you have been looking for a way to start using rapid inductions in your hypnotherapy practice, there is no better place to start than with this very smart and effective hypnotic induction. The Elman-Banyan induction is designed to take your clients into somnambulism in about 2 minutes or less.
Banyan Blast-Off Induction (Deep Hypnosis in about 30 seconds!

The fun and effective Banyan Blast-Off Induction is one that is not only very effective with adults but children love it too. Mr. Banyan originally designed this induction for demonstration purposes but it was so fun and effective that he soon integrated it into his sessions. Those that have trained with Mr. Banyan in his certification courses say that it is one of their favorites. When you see this on video it will probably make you smile. It is fun, fast and very effective.
Eye-Lock Instant Induction (Deep Hypnosis in about 15 seconds!)

This is another induction that Mr. Banyan originally used for demonstrations and found its way into everyday hypnosis sessions. This induction is unique in that it is especially useful when you are working with someone that may not be willing to follow instructions. It will show your client how important it is that he or she follow your instructions and let them know that you know when they are not. This can turn the difficult client into a very cooperative one. Another unique feature of this induction is that it convinces your client that he or she is in hypnosis first, and then you give them a quick little "surprise" and they instantly go into deep hypnosis.
The Eight Word Hypnotic Induction (Deep Hypnosis In 4 Seconds!)

This really fast induction came about while Mr. Banyan was teaching his NGH Hypnotherapy Certification Courses and 5-PATH® Advanced Hypnotherapy Certification Courses. He was teaching the Dave Elman Hand Drop Induction and it was just taking too long to do and too long to teach! Even though that induction took less than a minute to do, he thought "What if I could make this even faster and simpler?" The result was the Eight Word Induction! Like all the inductions on this video, it is very effective, only much faster than the ones listed above. Mr. Banyan teaches that, all things being equal, the shorter the induction the more reliable it is, there is simply less time for anything to go wrong! Learn it and you will love it.
Instant Hypnosis by Post-Hypnotic Suggestion (Deep Hypnosis in 2 Seconds!)

All of the inductions described above are perfect for first sessions, and of course work even better when you use them a second or more times in subsequent sessions with the same client. If you routinely see clients for more than one session, wouldn't it be wonderful if you could learn how to give them a hypnotic suggestion in the first session that will instantly induce a deep level of hypnosis in subsequent session! What a time saver this has been for the hypnotherapist that have learned how to do induce hypnosis by post-hypnotic suggestion. Imagine only taking about 2 seconds to re-hypnotize your client in all your subsequent sessions. Now, that is a super efficient time saver.
Affect Induced Age Regression Inductions (Deep Hypnosis in 0 Seconds!!)

As stated above, Mr. Banyan teaches that the shorter the induction, the more reliable it will be. So, following that thought, an induction that takes zero seconds to perform must be the most reliable of all! Mr. Banyan will demonstrate this induction on an actual client. This is a specialized induction that is especially useful if you conduct hypnotic age regression sessions (or would like to). He will show you how to bring up the emotions (affect) associated with the issue that you are working on with your client and how to instantly turn that emotion into a Affect Bridge Age Regression! This is an amazing thing to watch. It's real and it works! Be one of the few hypnotherapists that have ever seen this induction conducted and then learn how to do it your self.

Excellent! I'm happy to know so many different instant inductions. Martha Sofio, M.S.N, Certified Hypnotherapist

I was happy to learn new and quick inductions, especially the Banyan Blast-Off Induction! Cal is a very articulate speaker who explains the how and why of each step is done. Judith Rodenhiser, Certified Hypnotherapist

Powerful! I can take it and use what I learned with confidence. This alters my previous Ericksonian training. Thomas R. Butler, M.Div., M.S., Certified Hypnotherapist

Cal is a wonderful teacher. These tools for instant induction can only help the hypnotherapist to become more efficient in their work with their clients. I appreciated learning the theory behind the method. Kathleen Skott-Myhre, M.A., Certified Hypnotherapist

Very clear explanation of the inductions, timing and when its' best to use them. Tracy Blair, B.S., Certified Hypnotherapist

Why? Because, for humans, the stress response is triggered not so much by life-or-death situations as by psychological reasons it wasn’t designed to combat, such as

traffic tie-ups that double the time it takes for you to get to work;
complicated home repairs you haven’t gotten around to making;
troublesome thoughts and recurring memories; and
worries about the economy, the environment, and international events.

Among the psychological disorders and damaging behaviors that Professor Sapolsky explores are

depression, the genetics of which are indelibly linked to the genetics of one’s vulnerability to stress;
anxiety, which is rooted in the amygdala—a part of our brain that is extremely sensitive to one class of stress hormones; and
addiction, which can be directly related to increased levels of stress hormones in the body, whether it’s an addiction to drugs or to new sensations.
