What I don't understand is why don't retired athletes do what the successful retired athletes do, go into broadcasting and if you aren't good on the mike, you go into coaching, whether college or pro?

Or do like Jamal Mashburn and buy into a bunch of franchises and eat off of that. Portis needs to go after his financial advisors.

He is into broadcasting. He isnt that great but he has a spot on Saturday analyzing before the game. Not sure how much it pays but he has been busy since preseason.
It's easily accessible. The deputy clerks of the Court have friends in the media who will pay them some money for a tip on celebrity gossip. You also have interns at news media whose job is to look for shit like this.
