The has drawn huge crowds with thousands of mourners packing into the streets.
But the crowds have now sparked a deadly crush with dozens of people dead his home town of Kerman, according to local media.
Some 40 people have so far been killed and another 213 injured in the horror crush, Iran state TV reports.
Harrowing unverified footage appears to show medics desperately battling to revive victims as bodies are covered over with blankets.
Iranian state TV gave the casualty toll in its online report, without saying where it obtained the information.
Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran’s emergency medical services, earlier spoke by telephone to state TV and confirmed the stampede took place.
He said: “Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions.”
A procession in Tehran on Monday drew over a million people in the Iranian capital, crowding both main thoroughfares and side streets in Tehran.
The general's body was then taken to the holy city of Qom where a ceremony at the Masumeh shrine was held.
He was then due to be buried today in Kerman, but this has now been psotponed following the horror crush.
A new time will be announced later, officials say.
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wept over the general's casket during his prayers as mourners were seen waving flags and demanding action against the US for the assassination on Friday.
Soleimani's death has sparked calls across Iran for revenge against America for a slaying that has drastically raised tensions across the Middle East.

That's one of the scariest parts about this whole ordeal, the lack of of allies due to an inexperienced president not knowing how diplomacy works. Not diplomacy towards Iran per se but all the senseless twitter wars he picks with the leaders of other countries.
The only thing that gives me hope is that we're still an entirely oil dependent world and the other countries will jump to protect their economies even if they know the US wasn't thinking long term with their strike.

"We are aware of the reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The president has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team," White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said the attack was in retaliation for the death of Soleimani on Friday.
"We are warning all American allies, who gave their bases to its terrorist army, that any territory that is the starting point of aggressive acts against Iran will be targeted," it said via a statement carried by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.

He was recently bragging about how much money we spent on new equipment and in his speech today he commented that just because we have all this big, beautiful equipment doesn't mean we have to use it. Before the speech, they were showing how this dude laid out some notes, came and took the notes back, then put them back out about 15 mins. later. They probably had to make some last minute revisions to clear some stuff up. Not sure whether that was walking Trump back or nudging him forward, but something was up.
