According to reports, the FBI has launched a criminal
investigation of AIG, Lehman Brothers, Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac with the focus being "FRAUD" -- and the
investigation is supposedly focused on both the "Firms"
and their "Executives"</font size>

this is what they need to do.

I'm for this investigation, and I don't give a damn who it hurts politically.

Interesting. Need link to confirm.

I doubt the DOJ under the direction of a Bush appointee will seriously prosecute those the FBI investigates and uncovers as being involved in wrongdoing.

Yeah but he's lame duck and some of those DOJ katz are looking to clean up their reps before the new administration gets in.

Also it's high profile so no way they could avoid at least probing.

Interesting... We all better look into this "investigation" closely, such as who in particular are going to burn for this.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is investigating four major U.S. financial
institutions whose collapse helped trigger a $700 billion bailout plan by
the Bush administration.

Two law enforcement officials said the FBI is looking at potential fraud
by mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Lehman
Brothers Holdings Inc., and insurer American International Group Inc.

A senior law enforcement official says the inquiries, still in preliminary
stages, will focus on the financial institutions and the individuals that
ran them.

Officials say the new inquiries brings the number of corporate lenders
under investigation over the last year to 26.

Hey, you should know by now; if I say its happening,
I probably already have the link/source. LOL

More seriously, I hear the SEC (yeah, these companies
wish that meant the Southeastern Conference) is in on
the investigation with the FBI. One would think that if
that is so, the FBI probably has some significant leads
into what its looking for. There have been rumors for
a while that some of these large companies, i.e., Fannie
Mae, had been cooking their books. Being that this
thing is as large and as serious as it seems to be, somebody,
somebody -- is going to do some time.

Those that do will get a pardon.

I think there will be a few fall guys to appease the masses but really all they will get a slap on the wrist. Bush's term is almost up so he'll be handing out pardon's like X-mas cards in the coming weeks.
