Who do you want on the mound?? Past, present or future??

I got my preferences. But I think my answer will surprise you.
I'll post after a couple of responses

You know...you'd think that weren't any baseball fans on
the entire board judging from the non responses in this
thread.

But the truth is, that there are quite a few baseball fans,
just too damn lazy to post on the sports board. Instead,
they clutter up the main board with cheerleader posts

oh well

LET'S GO METS!!!

 I'm here fam.....

I can only go by the pitchers I have seen, and it would have to be:

Dwight Gooden in his early years, the kid was untouchable!

Dwight Gooden...interesting choice. In 84 & 85 that mofo
was virtually unhittable. In 86 he fell back to earth but
was still a top pitcher (as long as he could bring gas)

Off just those 2 years, I would have to agree. Although
there's a handfull of others who were almost as dominant

Since you showed up, I'll give my choice......

I would go with Randy Johnson!!! Pick any year (leave out
the Yankee/post Yankee years). I think RJ could punch out
ANY hitter from ANY era (including Bonds)

Since I'm only a recent baseball fan (last 3 years), I'd have to go with Brandon Webb or Jake Peavy (in non playoff games of course).

nolan ryan,sandy koufax,cy young(yes,he was a racist...but,he was a good pitcher)

If you wanna talk about pitchers you read and or heard about about then I would have to add Bob Gibson to the mix.....

He changed the game with his pitching. In 1968 his record was 22-9 and had an ERA of 1.12!!! That will never happen again. The following year they lowered the pitching mound to give the hitters a better chance cause he was too dominant....

Don Drysdale a teammate of Sandy Kofax comes to mind also...

From what I read and saw on TV, these two were some mean mofo's behind the mound and will knock you down quick. Here's a quote about both of them:

"Barry Bonds? I'll tell you what, if he hit a home run off (Bob) Gibson or (Don) Drysdale and stood and admired it, they'd knock that earring out of his ear the next time up."

- National League Umpire Doug Harvey

You do know that Young never officially pitched against people
of color. So his merits can't really be judged fairly IMO. That
would be like me picking the top Japanese League pitcher based
on his dominance of only Japanese players. SO while Young has
an award named after him and thim and holds the record for wins,
I couldn't pick him. And of course, I never saw him play

I wouldn't take Ryan either. His control was awful. Just as likely to walk in a run or hit a batter as strike him out. He
was a sink or swim kind of pitcher that usually sank in the
clutch

Koufax was the man though.

Funny how most of us have picked starters so far.

Ok, let's talk relievers....Marino is the shit, but before Mariano there was Bruce Sutter....split finger fastball he perfected was unhittable. Another was Goose Gossage, batters feared him at the plate, and he was just a fearless pitcher.

Mariano

against anybody but Boston that is. For some reason,
they got his number. They know how to read his pitches
I think

Goose Gossage

In his prime, he was the best ever IMO. He would have
the saves records if they kept the records from the
beginning of his career

Before Goose, most relievers were junkballers, like
Sparky Lyle. Goose changed into a power pitcher's role

I know it wouldn't be this asshole.
