for those who don't know, that's temperton on the keyboards... the man behind Michael Jackson's greatest music, IMO.

We demanded less and we got it. Music today is as empty as George Bush's head. I still rock the music from that era.

2 things happened...

1. mufuckas STOPPED playing real instruments live and on-stage.
2. disco music had a car accident and funk music was in the passenger seat. they both died from injuries caused by drugs & the synthesizer.

bona fide hits from that era. I never saw any performance by Heatwave so that was new to me...

I was "expanding" my mind a bit then, listening to some Zappa...(note George Duke on the keyboards; Jean Luc Ponty was in the band on the "Overnight Sensation" album...

Brother, you ain't lying.:smh:

Music was so alive back then.

Now shit's deader than Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and that dude from the Doors.

Brotherman I gotta ask you, how come this shit didn't affect them cats playing heavy metal and shit?:angry::angry:

CDawg, I'm depressed as fuck over here mayne. These Heatwave joints are giving me fucking flashbacks to a time when comicbooks were 25 cents a piece and shit was way simpler. :(

we aint a need a music video back then, the live performance or people dancing to it, let you know if that shit was a hit or not.

One thing I remember about this time and prior was that the dances were much more regional.....West Coast- East Coast-Midwest-South...they all had they own moves....and if you went to another town you could get new steps....

Of course Soul Train being in LA got a lot more light....but it was all good!!

Louis Johnson has got to be one of the most underated bass guitarist on this planet! The brother is nasty! Props to Temperton also.

My pops use to have the Wilder brothers and the rest of the band over to the house as my moms made homemade wine, and they all smoked weed in the basement. I never knew what that blue light in the basement meant till I was in my late teens.:lol::lol:

Damn I'm having flashbacks like sonofabitch. Bar-b-que in back yard over my grandmothers with the entire house stereo system on the back porch. Reel 2 reel, 8 track, Them big ass house speaker, the whole nine. Doing the bump, robot in them tight ass shirts that wouldn't stay snapped shut. Good ole days for sure!

Born in 1970:yes:

Louis Johnson was also on some MJ hits.

Also, it turns out that Rod Tempertons stuff for MJ was pretty rough and MJ and Quincy made MAJOR modifications. For example, Thriller was MJ's idea Tempertons song was call Starlite and was about dancing at clubs at night. MJ and Quincy made it a monster theme... MJ is the genius!!!! Severly underated as a producer and composer and arranger. Get the Off the Wall limited edition CD where there are recorded in interviews with Temperton and Quincy.

Take a look at the production values of this 70s electronic music pioneer.

Rod Temperton and Quincy often got in arguments about what songs would make the cut and how Quincy polished up the tracks. A lot of good tracks Rod did for MJ didn't make the cut for Thriller due to being too soulful.

I remember the DJ on Kiss 98.7 used to blend that SteelyDan joint back and forth with BillieJean when that shit was topping the charts.
This was all before hip hop had anyplace on the mainstream radio dial.
