#1 all day. I need a man that can be depended on to shoot free throws at least somewhat. Shaq was hella dominant, but if he shoot 50% from the line, when it comes down to it in a game and we are losing I can't get him the ball, of if we are up just barely - same deal.

Ha, the FG% must have gotten copied twice, apologies to Yao and anyone who would have changed their vote.
Yao shot 83.2% FTs, a huge difference.
Since he got zero votes, it's still a totally fair comparison of the other 4.

I missed the poll but I would have taken # 4 which ended up being Shaq.
So what players match each number? I can't tell who's who
Shaquille O'Neal = Player 4
Patrick Ewing = Player 1
Tim Duncan = Player 3
Dwight Howard = Player 5
Yao Ming = Player 2 but much better at free throws.

I think the main takeaway here is Ewing beating Duncan.

Last bump on these results.
He received a lot of attention early, but it seems for the last half of his career he was overshadowed by Hakeem and David Robinson and then Shaq.
As they should have.imo fg% + ft% mighta cost duncan a few votes that went to pat
Championships disproportionately shape opinions of players, so Duncan is seen as being in a higher ethos than Ewing. You ask almost anybody who they would choose to build a team around and, based on name and reputation, they'd pick Duncan.
But the stats suggest that they were at the very least equals in their primes-- And I agree with the majority of BGOL who thought Ewing had the better numbers.
