I know what it is. Its beta syncing software. does it back up and restore good without issue. thats my concern.
Yes. It's "beta" only in the sense that it hasn't been authorized to be released to the public yet. This came from the official RIM Blackberry Beta Zone.
Blackberry Desktop has been around for years. This is just the latest version.
RIM only puts something up on their Beta Zone when it's in deep Beta testing and a hair away from release.
BB v6.0 O/S comes out in a few weeks on the new Slider 9800, and this was created to coincide with it's launch.

I'd say anything made after 2009 w/at least 528mb of memory should be able to handle 6.0. Before then, you're SOL.
If you tried to put BBM 5.0 on your BB, unless you were at OS v4.5.0.71 or > cause some bad bad problems and made people flush their contacts.
BB Desktop Manager is completely different animal. This is what you use to SAVE and BACK-UP all your data, contacts, settings, ringtones, etc. It creates an .IPD file which you can then install on any new BB device or even back on your own should something go catasrophically wrong.

Ditched in this version. It was needless.
You can make your own ringtone in any audio editing software and just upload the file to your BB.
but I don't have an audio editing program .. can you recommend any free ones?

Boro, Blackberry Messenger did that.
This is Blackberry Desktop Manager. It's a completely different program. Has nothing to do with even touching your contacts (unless you tell it to).
