Hello Ladies.

The new year is approaching and a lot of us have NY resolutions to lose weight. Now, some say we don’t take care of ourselves, they say we are fat, we don’t workout, and we, well we just don't eat right. For some this is very true but for others we can really throw down some good healthy meals. I want to know if we could share some healthy recipes and tips to help others who just don’t know better. Here I'll start.
If you don't know what to do with that left-over turkey

Chopped BB-Q (with turkey no pork)

Preheat oven 350
cut that carcass up into small pieces about 3lbs worth
while your at it finely chop up a
A Big White Onion
A Green Pepper
A Red Pepper
Add
2 cups of BBQ Sauce
2 tbsp of ketchup
3 tbsps of crushed or minced garlic
1/4 cup crushed red pepper
1 tspn of Honey or Brown sugar (opt.)
1 cup of apple cider vinegar
Seasons are optional and we all have our own, Do you
(I like ginger, lemon pepper, basil, paprika)
Mix it, spread it in a pan, cover it, and bake it about 45 min.
Throw it on some toasted wheat bread (opt.)

Fuck ya man and go to sleep
(nah, you can’t eat, then fall asleep)

i eat healthy

Your one of the few. I refuse to eat at these places. I'm looking to restart my weight program and now that the holidays are over this year my goal is xx lbs.

I ended up at one of those all you can eat joints in Atlanta a few months back and I was in awe over what I saw women eating and the quantities of food. Foods piled onto their plates and many going back for more. :smh:

IMO no black women are not eating healthy. Neither are black men. (sorry brothers were guilty too) Too much fast food and too many all you can eats. I think the all you can eat joints a worse than the fast food places. Much of the foods are fried and fatty. Then they have the nerve to want deserts. We all must do better!

I dont pig out but I dont eat healthy either. I eat vegetables and fruits on a daily bases and drink lots and lots of water (approx 2gallons a day lol). On the weekend I tend to pig out though. I'm in college so what can I say

I am quite picky as to what I put inside my body. I live a veg lifestyle so my options are limited of course. I exercise and I meditate.
I do NOT eat at fast food places. I very very rarely will be caught at a restaurant. I try to live as natural as I can.

I eat very healthy. I too do not eat at fast food places at all whatsoever and mostly cook at home as much as possible. I eat a mostly veg diet with a little fish now and again. No white refined products(sugar, flour, etc). Avoid processed and packaged foods even the health food kind as much as possible. I deal with food combining from both the macrobiotic and ayurvedic perspectives. I do not mix fruit and vegetables and I eat one meal of vegetable matter and starch and then another meal of starch and protein. It is not wise to mix protein and starch the exception being rice and peas.

Hey Did you know that you could lose about ten pounds in a month just by replacing juice with water? . A lot of people don't know that juice can make you gain weight.

There are always excpetions in this case your the one. Bet its lonely out there. :D But its been my experence especially since moving south to Atlanta that we would rather buy fast food rather than to come home and fix a healthy meal.

I cannot believe the number of places here to buy food. Unfortunately 90+ percent of them fry food. Then you have the all-you-can-eats. These places have nice options for food selection but you see very few even look at the salad bar. :smh: In addition "DAMN NEAR EVERYONE" is going to overstuff themselves! Forget 1 plate of food. :smh: Not to mention the lines of people trying to get into these places. On a Sunday afternoon the lines stretch into the parking lots.

I know its not always easy to come home and cook but even the fast food joints today offer healthy options to french fries and fried meats. We just don't seem to want them. We however better wake up because we are killing ourselves.:hmm:

Check out "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type" by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo

Clearly its been around for a while with Kathie Lee on there ;)
My dad swears by it - followed it to the letter and lost the 30 pounds of excess weight he had in like 4 months. He just continued following the principles as a lifestyle choice and has maintained his ideal weight for a couple of years now.

I'm a single mom (teen) and it's tough not totally cut out fast food with our schedules, but we always keep the principles in mind and choose the healthier places/healthier options on the menu. We drink more water and cut out sodas, eat lots of fruit. We've already started to exercise more together and we hold each other to it. We could be doing better, but our clothes are still in single digit sizes (we're short people) - just trying to stay there ;)

Me too. I still enjoy eating out on the weekends (usually just one day Friday night or Saturday not all 3 days) and have dessert one a week, but I mainly eat at home and keep it natural.

I get tired of being the only one cooking though- I need to marry a vegetarian gourmet whole foods chef. That would be heaven.

Really lucky to live around the corner from a holistic health minded restaurant! If I don't want to cook one night, I can still eat healthy and support the neighborhood economy at the same time.

Americans, especially Blacks, as a WHOLE need to cut sugars and eat less fatty foods. You'd be surprised. Cut out sugars, that means no sodas, only 100% juice(but less than 16 oz a day, drink water, cut out all fast food, and all desserts for a week. Then start eating fruits like mangoes and honeydew melons. That shit tastes just like candy to you. If you can train your body and mind, you can eat healthy and STILL feel like you're satisfying those cravings for sugar. Because that's all they are is cravings. And your body will feel better because you wont be putting it through those sugar highs and lows.

Of course I still have some vices, but you limit those.

Also all fruits contain high levels of sucrose. It is the predominant sugar in plants and is the major source of energy for photosynthetic plants. Excess sucrose is stored as starch. Sucrose is extracted to make table sugar. It doesn't matter if you get 1 gram from your apple or 1 gram from your sugar bowl. The sugar from your apple does increase your blood sugar. This is why diabetics are cautioned not to eat fruits and vegetables (carrots, bannanas, grapes...) with high levels of sucrose. The benefit to eating fruit as opposed to just table sugar is that fruits also conatin vitamins and starches that add nutritional value.;)

Of course they contain sugars, that's what makes them SWEET. And of course, one gram from a mango is just the same as one gram from M & M's. However, what you are failing to take into account is that it will take 7 times as much mango to equal the M&M's. Meaning that 2 ounce bag of M&M's you ate equals a lb of mango. Now which will get you fuller?? And Mangoes are the sweetest fruits. The average fruit is 10 times less sweet than candy.

Absolutely, but if someone is trying to lose weight they should be cautious and watch the intake of fruit. It still contains a lot of sugar. And I would only eat it early in the day.

Obviously you have never had sugarapples. The sweetest fruit you may have ever had.

Here is a chart with all the fruits and vitamins and minerals in them. It also has the amounts of sugar. I do know that it is good to eat fruit before you workout for energy. http://www.thefruitpages.com/contents.shtml keep that in mind.

Checked that list but there are many fruit not listed there but maybe the names we use in the Caribbean are not the one used. I saw no ackees,sugarapples,soursops,dunks/donks or mammiapples.:smh:

Oh yeah sugar cane growing up was a staple in my diet but of course it had no nutritional value that i was aware of. Oh shucks i almost forgot it did because if the owner of the cane ground run you you would get lots of cardio. Of course that was half the fun when we went on fruit raids.

Some fruit are overrated though. The bajan cherry only one of them will give you your entire vitamin C daily requirement and people tout cranberries for the kidneys but coconut water does the same thing but only better.

Is there a difference between coconut water and coconut milk?

yes. coconut water is the water inside the coconut. you want to drink it from a young green jelly coconut and then eat the jelly too. not so good from the brown older coconuts which is what you use to make coconut milk which is the grated meat from the coconut blended with water and then strained and the pulp squeezed. coconut milk is more something to cook with. home we drink our coconut water with gin or there is also something for the men called steel drops.
