Not really. It's very 1 dimensional and says alot about those using this resource. You can sit in your box in the familiarity of black and white or you can go get splashes of color.

If you are on twitter as I am, you should be getting a whole rainbow of colors and information from different sources. You can follow "black twitter" you can follow, scientists, writers, comedians, actors, students, blue collar, white collar, foreign, domestic. My feed is colorful. I'm following Pam Grier and conversing with her, same time I may converse and argue with Chuck Woolery or I may watch TV and live tweet with a bunch of folks. I also have news feeds for breaking and daily news and even authors formulating ideas in public.

You guys have to stop looking at things in tiny boxes. The world and technology is not black and white. Stop trying to simplify things.

Saying what you said is poking ya chest out saying "I only watch PBS, I don't listen to any music, watch comedies or anything else, just watch PBS"

Exactly. Twitter and other social media is a must for any business. Think about it, a free platform with millions of people on it 24/7. Social media is available via phone, tablet, computer, and even some TVs. That breath gives you access to millions of prospects and customers at all times. You can build your brand's awareness via it. From their build up affinity. And then close out with an action – as you mentioned, a call-to-action (visit this site, follow us on here, buy this product, share with a friend, etc.).

Say what you will on a personal level, but professionally, if you aren't using social media, you're a fool. It's a game changer and needle-mover.

Twitter is making dough now. Pretty sure they haven't turned a profit yet but they have revenues.

It's a great compliment to traditional reading channels, I agree, but it is also a discovery tool.

I use it to get breaking tech news in 1 location. Some days I don't go to the techcrunch or venturebeat sites but I can get some real insights from the people I follow who are VC, Angels etc....


It is also used as a discovery tool for bloggers.

If you have engaging and interesting content, people will follow you and you establish yourself as a thought leader within your industry.


Brands use it to do A/B Testing, refine messaging, a complaint response platform to address user concerns etc...

I tweeted about my dissatisfaction about Amazon and I got a response the very next minute and got a credit.

Twitter is an instantaneous communication channel.

So people who are about something can build engagement faster as well as people who are about nothing.

But is you see fuckery on your feed, it's a reflection of the people you add that that is a direct correlation of who you value.

Twitter is what you make it.

Additionally, there is a small network of bgol members that interact and support each other on Twitter. We don't speak about bgol publically... its more of a skull and bones type vibe on twitter, "keep it secret, keep it safe".

Maybe about 4 or 5 years ago we had threads on here to follow each other on our various social networks. I don't think those type of threads have been revisited since. If any of you have small businesses (including blogs) and have questions about using social media to promote and/ or bring on sponsors I am here to help.

The Trayvon Martin juror who had a book deal decided not to go ahead with her book after getting outed on Black Twitter. The person who blew up her spot started tweeting the book publisher who signed the deal casting a negative light upon the whole sordid affair. When the rest of Black Twitter picked up on it and started retweeting and tweeting the publisher, word spread and a wave a negative publicity hit the project before it even got started. The publisher backed down and decided not to publish the book. The juror dead'd the idea of writing about her experiences.

ABC's Scandal is a network monster because of Black Twitter.

Read up on Black Twitter and see how mainstream media sites (Gawker, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post) regularly mine Black Twitter for content ideas and go on and publish them on their own site without any sort of accreditation. Mind you, these three sites makes millions of dollars off of their online content.
