LOS ANGELES – LeBron James is one half closer to history.
James gave the sold-out Crypto.com Arena a show in the first half, scoring 20 points to pull within 16 of surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time leading scorer in NBA history.
James opened the game extremely aggressively, looking to score and draw fouls. He made 6 of 10 shots, including 2 of 3 from behind the arc, and went 6-for-8 from the foul line.
With each score, the crowd’s anticipation kept building into a frenzy as fans cheered louder and louder. They roared whenever he got up off the bench to check back into the game. When James scored and drew the foul for a three-point play, the crowd exploded like it was a game winner.
And when James missed an opportunity to score, the crowd groaned loudly, like when Russell Westbrook fired an errant pass out of bounds when James was all by himself up the court for what would have been an easy layup.
Even by Showtime standards, this audience was jam-packed with star power. Jay-Z, Bad Bunny, Denzel Washington, Dwyane Wade and John McEnroe are among the many stars in attendance.
